  • RPG Biography
My (nick) name is CthulhuBob Lovely, which most likely gives some idea of my preference in books, movies and games.
Always a dreamer and very imaginative, I began playing Dungeons and Dragons at the age of 13. Prior to this, I had seen H.P. Lovecraft’s books in the collection of my older brother, Brian, who is also responsible for introducing me to Monty Python, Star Wars and many other things geek. In my younger years, my geek reading was more science fiction than fantasy or horror, though that has largely reversed these days.
As a child, I suckled at the teat of 1950s and 1970s horror films. The stuff from the 1960s is pretty much crap, save for a few gems–“The Raven,” starring Vincent Price, Peter Lorre and Boris Karloff being a few examples.
When Call of Cthulhu was first published, I played with my friend Wrich as Keeper. I immediately fell in love with the game, and the system, and have been running Call of Cthulhu ever since.
I have been running Call of Cthulhu since 1983, including for fellow service members while in the United States Air Force. I also have run a great deal of Dungeons and Dragons, GURPS and Champions.
My GM-ing has included several at-home campaigns and many convention scenarios, all of which I have written myself, though I intend to use more company-written material in the future. Iä!

  1. Though I never had the honor of meeting Mr. Stafford, I know from many mutual friends he was a warm and kind man. His founding of Chaosium, leading to the creation of the Call of Cthulhu role playing game, has provided me with untold hours of creativity and fun. So many people have entered my circle of friends due to the good work of this man. My love to his family. Thank you.
  2. These guys have a lot of neat stuff. I think much of the following would be good for Cthulhu games. http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_64 http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_9_35&products_id=272 http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_12_47 http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_12_51&products_id=73 http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_12_51&products_id=344 (Security guards?) http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_1
  3. Most of these won't really apply to "A Tome To Harvest," but they are most likely good for a lot of Cthulhu games. "Scientists and Civilians" has a couple which look promising. http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_64 http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_9_35&products_id=272 http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_12_47 http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_12_51&products_id=73 http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_12_51&products_id=344 (Security guards?) http://heresyminiatures.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_16
  4. This might help http://data-sphere.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=36&start=30
  5. The font and layout are beautiful and the material is wonderful. I always love adventure seeds for kicking off play, historical information also makes for a much richer game experience and a well-written scenario complete with attractive handouts completes a great magazine. Thanks!
  6. Dave, Thanks for the Nerd, Chick, Jock link. I always need minis of normal people. Might want to look at: http://brigadegames.3dcartstores.com/BG-MWC001-Bystanders-I-aka-Civilians-5_p_415.html http://brigadegames.3dcartstores.com/Jessica-Female-Scientist-recording-experiment_p_1052.html Also, I wish I could remember where I got this set. I use them for “the normal people on the street who get caught in the middle when horrible things happen.”
  7. I was going to ask about play time. This can be run in a couple of sessions at a con then?
