Yeah, I thought so too, but the titling is somewhat unclear so I wasn't quite certain. It does look cool.

I'm not particularly medieval-savvy but this would probably mix well with Chaosium's Val-du-Loup monograph (10th or 12th century), which I'm still waiting for them to make available in print-on-demand, or even Arion Games' Maelstrom Domesday (11th century).

Val-du-Loup is excellent and the author includes info on how to run it in the dark ages or medieval period.

Alephtar has some great supplements for the early 13th century you might enjoy too. Crusaders of the Amber Coast is really good. Merrie England has a lot of great info, but it was hard to digest. More like reading a scholarly work on the period instead of a game book - if you can follow my drift.

I'd freely mix and match all this stuff. Unless you are gaming with a bunch of medieval history majors, nobody is going to have any idea who lived when or what date a particular battle was fought on. So King John is on the throne a couple of years too long. You're hunting demons in France for Hastur's sake:)

I don't own any of this line (looks cool though). I just gave them a quick skim on Drive Thru. These sounded like the core books and the others are adventures and/or fluff.

Are either of these available in print? If so, are they digest sized? Are any of the supplements available in print?

I have the Deus Vult core book from the MRQ2 line. I thought it had a great premise, but unfortunately didn't get any play out of it. I wonder if there's any point in 'upgrading' to the current version or if I'd just end up buying reprinted content.

I too have the MRQII version of Deus Vult. As I understand it, the changes are relatively minor, but may still be significant. Miracles have been revamped, I think they're not based on divine magic anymore? And some minor character profession changes. I think I might get the GM guide just for support, but perhaps not right now. I don't even have the Legend rule set yet, even though I've been meaning to buy it.

As for Val du Loup, it should go pretty well with DV (but of course it's for BRP, so stats are different). Val du loup is pretty much a small sandbox type setting between the great realms of France and the Holy Roman Empire. There's a minor templar presence there, and naturally at least one Monastery (from memory) and a leper sanitarium, among other things. Those forests and hills are sure to be full of beasts, monsters, witches and cultists, and pagans still worshiping their old gods, sort of thing...and plenty of opportunity for diplomacy, plots, and other skullduggery.

As for other usable resources for DV, Ex Cathedra describes Troyes, and coupled with Life in a Medieval City by Joseph & Frances Gies, it might make a playable city setting? And there's the new DV sourcebook on Rouen too. As there are no major cities in the Val, only villages and a couple of larger towns, I though something like the above would supplement it nicely. That Rouen book I have to get, once a print version comes out early 2015. These cities arent too far from Val du Loupe either. If one had more info about Medieval Paris, Gent and Aachen, for example, you'd have a pretty nice NE setting for all kinds of medieval mayhem?

See? It's a bit confusing, even on Mongoose's own website. As far as I have been able to figure out, the two core books are available in print and pdf from the Mongoose webstore. The print versions aren't available in (m)any other places, though. Amazon lists them as "currently unavailable" and none of the online gamestores I usually order with has them in stock. The supplements *seem* to be pdf-only, currently, though I'm not sure if there are plans for print versions. There's no mention of the books' dimensions on Mongoose's site or Amazon.

Looks like digest. The block of text right below the Legend logo in the webstore is where you need to look (bolded bits are mine).

All that seems to say is that Legend is now digest size, nothing except indirectly about other lines.

 

Why not ask on the MGP forums, Matt should be able to tell you directly what format he's going to be printing them in and when they'll be out in print format.

I went and created an account on the Mongoose forums. I found that K Peterson also posted Deus Vult-related questions there. So, here's a final follow-up.

 

Apparently the Deus Vult books are all digest size, so they match the Legend rulebook. Currently only the GM and Player guides are available in print and only throuh the Mongoose webstore, but starting November they're going to start putting out all the Deus Vult material in print and distributing it more widely.
