There is a lot going on in the island setting, so that a campaign or three could be drawn from it. I'm even tempted to put Pherae into the Mythras Thennla setting, for a lark, which would add some depth to the outside world. A few things though, my players INSIST on (well two) races that are not aknowledged for the setting, namely Elves & Ducks. Where would you suggest I put these settlements? blackyinkin Posted April 16, 2017 Author Share Posted April 16, 2017 We have an elf character in daughter's game, she is from far off lands and has been called to the island by "The Cries of Ora" and is trying to locate the source of pain. As the campaign rolled on other Elves have also come to the island and yet more have begun to awake in the forests. My elves are heavily nature orientated creatures. Ducks could be another kind of beast man that dwells in the marshes or civilised visitors from further shores. blackyinkin Posted April 16, 2017 Author Share Posted April 16, 2017 (edited) Hi, I also wrote and ran a freeform based in Pherae, the game greatly expanded the setting, and the portrayal of the Dragon Queen by the tiny and beautiful Franziska, as she gaily skipped through the lives of the other characters was a wonder to behold. It was hilarious when they suddenly realised that she could change into a colossal dragon. There was a part where she got wind that several players were plotting against her, so she got three loyal servants to lift her so she could "fly" around them as they cowered beneath a table, then she lifted the roof (aka the GMs moved the table) so that she could interrogate them herself. By the way I loved the book, and I really really wanted to run that campaign but my players only like Vanilla D&D style fantasy worlds. blackyinkin Posted April 20, 2017 Author Share Posted April 20, 2017 lol I've actually run Crucible of Dragons using D&D5e it works, all the tropes are there Knights of Theron (Fighters / Paladins), Demonologists (Warlocks), Azura Cultists (Monks), Cache Collectors (Barbarians / Thieves), Followers of the gods (Clerics)...need I go on? Vexthug Posted April 20, 2017 Share Posted April 20, 2017 It wasn't rules it was the sword and sandal feel of the world. It had an ancient Greek vibe to it as opposed to a pseudo medieval World. I get that you can reflavor the world to suit the players taste, but the initial elevator pitch I had made stuck with them and they would not budge from their first impression.
