Admins: Can we get a General BRP Board?

Could one of the admins make a General d100 board?

Since there doesn't seem to actually be one, I've just kindof been choosing a board at random (whichever of the many boards seemed most relevant) to post to and tagged my threads as being not game-title specific.

However, Loz has now asked that I (and others) not post any general purpose d100 threads on the RQ board anymore. Rather than have other publishers also get annoyed at me, I figured I would find an admin and ask for a general d100 discussion board to be started. The only Admin I could find was Trifletraxtor, and he seems to have PMs turned off, so here I am.

Once/if a general d100 board is started, If (by any chance) you could also move the six threads I've started in the past month to this new board, I would be very grateful. As it currently stands, I cannot discuss multiple game lines simultaneously or cross-game-line ideas without it being off-topic to whatever board I post it in.

Thanks.

So, we must be very strict and compartmentalized in our discussions on the big 'all things BRP' board?

I understand that publishers might want a board restricted to their products, since more discussion can equal more sales. But this is a fan board, not a house organ.

I understand that some fans who are only interested in one system might have to *skip over* some threads they're not interested. Much like I skip over threads that don't interest me. I read the Subject line.

Some topics might be about, say, looking at other published magic systems that might fit in well with their RQ6 game. Where does that go?

Sat I'd like to discuss differences between various aspects of RQ2, RQ3 and RQ6. Nominally, let's say my base game will be RQ6. We have a board called Runequest. Am I going to be chided for that? What if I just want to discuss Runequest in general, can I do so in the Runequest category? Or must I have a certain percentage of my words specific to RQ6?

This is a generic, fan site for the entire BRP/d100 family. I would love for publishers and designers to post here. But they have their own house boards, too.

I suspect that publishers would want to avoid threads that could confuse potential purchasers about their products. If I were to post about a particular mechanic that is handled slightly differently in a particular sub variant of a D100 game and put that post in the MW forum it might confuse people about it's applicability to MW.

A post comparing how a mechanic varies between RQ2/3 and RQ6 might be on-topic for a RQ forum but not a MW one. A generic D100 forum would solve some problems but people ignoring that board in favour of the board covering their own favourite variant might miss the thread abut yet till have something to contribute.

If a thread is concerned with RQ in some way, and references are made to the system, questions posed, variants suggested, etc etc. I have no problem with it being in the RQ section. Indeed, I welcome it.

But in the absence of a system-agnostic, general d100, discussion area, there have been a few posts that have found their way into RQ because it just seemed handy to do so. That's fair enough for a little while and I haven't been overly concerned about it. But today there were two more, and the danger is that RQ section becomes a de facto general d100 discussion area while the BRP, Legend, MW, OQ and Renaissance areas remain product specific. I don't see that as being especially fair. I'm not trying be all 'Get Off My Lawn', but at the same time if BRP Central is going to support compartmentalized areas for system-specific discussions, I don't see why I shouldn't politely ask for such discussions to be confined to RQ. I would not, for instance, go onto the MW or OQ boards and start discussing RQ or even generic topics there: I don't feel it considerate to the mods of those boards or the creators of those systems.

There clearly needs to be a general d100 rules discussion area. The d100 family has grown to the point where there are some common concepts that rise above and beyond the branded systems. If the site is going to support the different brands with their own areas, then it's not unreasonable to want to restrict conversations to their relevant systems. It's irrelevant whether or not publishers have their own house boards. BRP Central has become a first port of call for d100 discussions. It should be able to support discussions of both specific and general natures, limiting the amount of dilution that will occur if some form of regulation isn't maintained.

The Basic Roleplaying forum has served as a general purpose forum for as long as the site has been up. I've edited the description of the forum to reflect that. So all those general d100 questions? To the Basic Roleplaying forum! ;D

Okay then. that is where I shall post my general d100 discussions from now on.

I took the Basic Roleplaying board to be only for Chaosium's BGB and related stuff. (Where the BGB is a d100 product I am not especially interested in, and would be inclined to use one of the other options as my core book)

Any chance I can have these threads moved there?

Until someone from Chaosium complains that general D100 discussions should not be in the Basic Roleplaying Forum, as they are not BRP-related, of course.  :)
