Mankcam
Has anyone played Mercenary Breed? It looks quite good and reminds me a bit of Traveller RPG, except using LEGEND for core mechanics.I am just wondering what people think of these products Edited July 7, 2015 by Mankcam Quote " Sure it's fun, but it is also well known that a D20 roll and an AC is no match against a hefty swing of a D100% and a D20 Hit Location Table!" soltakss
I downloaded it and it looks OK, but I am not in a position to play it at the moment. Mankcam
Hmmm I am considering grabbing it. I liked Traveller, and doing it with a BRP system would be even better. From what I have seen, this setting could be pretty good Quote " Sure it's fun, but it is also well known that a D20 roll and an AC is no match against a hefty swing of a D100% and a D20 Hit Location Table!" pansophy
I have all the Entropic Gaming System books, and Mercenary Breed is incorporated in the Sci-Fi add on of the EGS. Not sure about the setting, but I like the way the company is writing their stuff and think their settings are all well thought out. So, without having seen the Mercenary Breed books but looking at the other things the company releases, it should be good and interesting. If you buy it - please let us know how it is Quote My Uploads - BRP and new: Revolution D100
K Peterson
First I've heard of it. I don't keep tabs on Mongoose Pub these days, so I might not had ever heard of it. (And there was an earlier edition? MB 2.0 currently?). Looks interesting, and I could be tempted to pick it up. But, I'd really need to read a couple of reviews before I broke out the credit card. Guest Vile Traveller
And there was an earlier edition? MB 2.0 currently? Looks like it was originally designed for Savage Worlds (I think that version 2.0 is also Savage Worlds). Can't see much in the way of reviews, except for one by Andy Slack himself and that's only on what I presume was SW version 1.0: https://andyslack.wordpress.com/2012/11/07/review-mercenary-breed/
p_clapham
It's okay. I was a little disappointed with their psychic powers. They just took a bunch of Common Magic and called them psionic powers.
Lord Sephleon
Yeah, I just picked the 2.0 books up early last week after stumbling on them. I've been wanting some really good sci-fi material, and Mercenary Breeds seems open-ended enough to work with. I probably won't be able to try it out anytime soon, unfortunately. clarence
Looks interesting. Do I need all three books or can I start with just one of them? Any suggestions? soltakss
You can start with the Mercenaries Handbook, which contains everything you need to roll up Mercenaries. There are a few alien races and a neat way of generating a new alien race. The Galaxy Guide is basically a GM's Handbook with descriptions of some planets and some scenarios. The Xenopedia is a Monster manual of various alien species. 1 Quote Simon Phipp - Caldmore Chameleon - Wallowing in my elitism since 1982. Many Systems, One Family. Conrad
Mercenary Breed needs a space combat system, vacuum damage, and zero g rules. The Cthulhu Rising monograph looks like it would be useful as a kind of supplement to the setting, as well as Soltakss's RQ Traveller/D20 mashup, or perhaps the M Space stuff when it has been converted to the Mythras/MRQ II/ Legend style o' things! Tirapheg
This looks like it would be good to emulate a superagents type game. I will use some of the stuff to add to the Mythras Destined game I am slowly planning on running.
