    Played my first RPG in 1977, moved to RuneQuest very quickly. Ran the Convulsion Convention 1992 to 2002 with a large Chaosium presence. I have writing credits for HQ2 Glorantha Publications, the Guide to Glorantha, notably in the Wastelands chapter and am one of the co-authors of HeroQuest Glorantha, and credits in RQG. Have run a weekly RPG club since 1989. My favourite games are HeroQuest Glorantha, Traveller (MegaTraveller engine), Torg 1ed, Exalted 2ed, Pendragon, 3:16, DramaSystem and various campaigns using HeroQuest 2.

  1. No idea, although I thought people might enjoy the video. Friendface said "Those attending ChaosiumCon next week will be among the first in the world to be able to purchase Cults of RuneQuest: The Lunar Way, and the Pendragon: Core Rulebook! Both titles will be available in limited quantities!" and "Unfortunately there have been massive and unavoidable shipping delays. Not too much longer now, though" There's always plenty of other things to do while waiting for new product. There's new stuff coming out of the JC almost every hour (it seems like it anyway). Or you could familiarise yourself with the Pendragon starter set and hit the ground running when the new rules appear, or just wait here and ask every so often where's the new stuff, gently weeping.

  3. They don't have Sanctify (RBM 76) - which creates an area that can be used temporarily as a temple. Initiates will need to return to their Ring leader's refuge - as The temple is both a worship site and a refuge (LB 115). Lanbril is a criminal ring, not a cult for solo thieves. And Dismiss Magic, Divination, Extension, Find Enemy, Heal Wound, Multispell, Spirit Block, and Warding. Plus Dismiss Elemental (specific type, small or medium) and Divination Block. (per LB 115). Dismiss elemental is very handy when you realise that the Pavis cult in Pavis (the centre of a large Lanbril cult) can summon elementals. Elementals are very useful for guarding things. Put an elemental into a binding enchantment on a chest, add the condition of if not opened by the caster - release the elemental. They will need to ingratiate themselves with the local ringleader. I'd use the lay member interview (LB 112) and CHA x 5 plus their reputation. Don't make it harder for the player than it need be.
  4. The use of hunting dogs isn't widespread amongst the Praxians (per my discussion with Greg): I include them now only as it's an adventurer option for RQG. It allows adventures to have a dog. There are usually (in this case one) a few individuals that breed dogs for this kind of use.   6. If a player wanted to play a men-and-a-half (per RQB 75) and chose the Hunter occupation, I'd let them have a hunting animal (typically a shadowcat or dog) per the occupation (RQG 69). I'd let them have a dog or another animal - maybe a even a baboon (normal), monkey or hawk, but not a shadowcat as they are Sartar and Hendrikiland specific (RQB 144). The men-and-a-half have been in Prax and the Wastes since before the Dawn, and their hunters have been in contact with those of the other tribes (per Organization LB 88), they hunt the same animals, and occasionally participate in the same Great Hunts. I've always imagined that hunting animals are not widespread amongst any of the Praxian hunters, and I apply that to the men-and-a-half too. Note that in the Great Hunt, hunters must hunt alone - so no hunting animals. As for camp dogs, I don't think the men-and-a-half have those, as they are related to Waha (Waha's brother is a dog - RQB 144).
  7. Please re-read the Men-and-a-half section of the RQ Bestiary (pages 48-51), you'll see heir main god is Foundchild, The Basmoli hsunchen of Prax, worship Basmol. Lions are extinct in Prax, so unlike the Telmori, they have no lion companions. Tada skinned Basmol, not Waha. Baboons worship Grandfather Baboon (a mask of Daka Fal). The Monkey King is a spirit cult. The Cannibal Cult doesn't follow the Survival Covenant as they eat sentient creatures. Mostly Ernalda. Eiritha is specifically the mother of herd animals - and is mostly concerned with their care and breeding. Waha show the way of how to live in the wastelands (a culture hero), but there are other who show how to too.

  10. I have always assumed that the minor diseases are Darkness Rune based, the major diseases are Death Rune based and only the plague is Chaos Rune based. While my assumptions aren't borne out by RQG anymore (major & minor are Chaos and Darkness based). Plague is only Chaos. While major & minor diseases can be caused by Chaos, they have no taint. Whereas plague is definitely chaotic. I also assume that any spirit in the Dead Place dies within a week as they've nothing to sustain them. Their bodies are the dust and their magic points are very slowly regenerating the place (there are now a few hardy plants).
  11. Here we move into grey area. Chalana Arroy can fight spirits, but will likely have a moral dilemma when in the Dead Place, they are no longer spirits or diseases, The dust or mud may kill them first. If you reach a point where you need to take a possessed person into the dead place, that's a whole adventure in itself.
  12. The situation goes back to how it was pre-1572 - there are now Praxians back on the city council as it was at the time of the city founding. With that, no raiding Pavis county. There are elders alive who can remember when this was the case. Remember New Pavis was only founded in 1550, The failed Praxian revolt was 1572 and Dorosar died in 1579 (see Pavis GTA for the history). New Pavis was founded by Dorosar and the Sables, fisherfolk, Yelmalions and the dwarfs.
  13. Most of the relevant advice is in the two boxes: Welcome home (PP 141) and Growing Up in the Hope (PP 153). For some clan dynamics, I'd first have a look at it's location on the map (number nine), for me that doesn't really give a good feel for it, but look at the most up to date map here, in the top left hand corner south of the city of Bagnot (click to enlarge the map - it's big). I'd then grab one of the clans that Jeff has outlined, like the Varmandi, Ernaldori, or Hiording, and reskin it (or do a mash-up) with the people from the setting. It's got a minor temple of Ernalda, and shrines to the Seven mothers and Orlanth. Make sure you've Anjara and Vila on the ring! (I would personally include Grandpa Uz too) Anla fills the chief position and you're off. The main dynamics are Lunar/Orlanthi/independent. Remember - Because the Hope was founded by a follower of the Red Goddess and an Ernaldan priestess, there is little religious conflict here. That doesn't mean that a cultural dynamic doesn't exist. They are between the major settlements of Bagnot and Shakers Temple, so that will have some effect.
  14. It's reverse Chaos per RQB 94 / RBM 24. The curse is that not all chaos features are positive.
