  2. @conajofa @Atgxtg Thanks for being understanding. My wife tells me that I can come across as arrogant when I'm trying to be polite. /shrug
  3. I have not any issue with that. I had an issue with the previous version, where lunar magic was "just" sorcery technics applied on spirit magic. Now, at least there is a difference 🙂 However something always disturbs me : there are specific rules or content on very specific characters (lunar initiate ... already illuminate, already priest / runelord; but also path of immanent mastery, comb and braid, etc...) Rules or content means efforts for very specific cases. And there is one case... one case which is the promise of the games names and period. Runequest, Herowar So I m happy that there was no change, no effort, with the lunar magic. At least, it saves time/workload on something I expect for more than 3 decades ! Note than deeper work on dragon pass, sorcery etc... is a good thing in my opinion. Just the big issue with the game is (imo) there are too many scopes to cover properly and satisfy every gloranthomaniac. So if the strategy becomes "less efforts on very specific cases, more efforts on the heart of the concept (we play hero) and the heart of the world (DP + peloria) " I can only applause. Just let JC makes a lot of exceptional work on strange and far lands, weird monsters and very local (sub)cults instead of fixing the missing part of the heart

  6. Well, Jeff seems pretty clear: You can’t contact [Wakboth] as he is dead … and buried beneath that Block of Truestone … part of the reconstituted mundane world and the source of moral evil in mundane life. But as long as he is imprisoned beneath the Block, that’s all But I am just reporting that and playing with it. I am not endorsing it. You are right that we can do what we like with Wakboth and friends. And we should. Beats blaming our faults on a dead monster. I tend to view the Block and whatever is oozing out from under it as a symbol of the integration of chaos into the temporal world. Perhaps lifting the Block would have no effect — it is just a symbol. In a magical world, perhaps the alteration of a symbol would have a large effect, but what effect? Accelerating entropy? Unleashing evil? Unravelling time and returning us to the timeless hell of the Gods War? Undoing the Compromise, thus killing all the gods relying on it for survival? 🎶 And we’ll have fun fun fun now that [someone] took the Truestone away 🎶

  8. This episode is our latest exploration of the deities of the Cthulhu Mythos. We have devoted previous episodes to Dagon, Shub-Niggurath, Yog-Sothoth, Nyarlathotep, Hastur, Azathoth, Nodens, Ubbo-Sathla and Mordiggian, Ithaqua, Cthulhu, Daoloth and Eihort, Gla’aki, Y’golonac, Tsathoggua, Atlach-Nacha and Abhoth, Cyäegha and Byatis, and Yig and Ghatanothoa. Here, we’re turning to the creations of Brian Lumley, specifically the gods Shudde M’ell, Yibb-Tstll and Bugg-Shash. As usual, we discuss their origins in fiction, how they’ve been developed in the Call of Cthulhu RPG, and how we might use them in our own games. We planned this episode some time back, before we heard that Brian Lumley had died.
  9. On a game design note, sorcerers still have separate skills for each spell making skills for intensity etc. overly needless. For Red Goddess magic, the base for *all* spirit magic is POWx5% so having separate skills for prolong, combine etc doesn't seem that much of a burden to me.
  10. Agreed. I see it as a sort of 'viewing different parts of the same elephant' thing. Or, potentially more accurately, the thing that old-school palaeontologists did when they were stitching together old skeletons: sometimes connecting the bones of one creature together to see some of its whole, but other times connecting together the bones of completely different creatures and getting a false vision of what the reality is. Ah, but doesn't that hinge on why Ragnaglar and Wakboth are unreachable. Is it because those gods are dead/trapped? Or is it because people have forgotten how to reach them (read: all the people who knew how to reach them have had their heads chopped off). How much of the dawn myths are intended to be interpreted as read, and how much are they intended to be allegorical? The reason this matters in a practical sense is that Ragnaglar and Wakboth may be unreachable theologically as the expertise to do so have been wiped clean from the lozenge. Perhaps, though, they are still lurking beneath the surface, stalking through the Spirit Realm, waiting for unlucky shamans to stumble into their trap. Perhaps, so long as a god is remembered in any facet (including as a character in other gods' myths), they are not truly dead and gone.
  11. Until I see the rules myself I cannot give an informed opinion, but the solution seems... inelegant, for a better word. Chaosium removed the sorcery skills and replace them with techniques and runes, so they thought there were a level of brokeness in their original approach. Also, the skill bloat in the cults books is something has been raised before.
  12. I've not got my rule book to hand but I'm sure it talks about fear passion making people avoid the subject of the fear. I play it like a demoralization if the fear wins (succeeds) but as pointed out oppose it with something else (devotion to orlanth, for example, because courage is a virtue of Orlanth).

  15. That's just what it's called in arcane lore.
  16. It's not a mistranslation, but an example of how society and language changes over time. Originally the word courtesan mean a female courtier, that being a person who attends a powerful person of status' (i.e. a noble) court, and was some sort of retainer, knight, or in the case of a female, a lady of the court. The word was borrowed into English where overtime, as the definition of a powerful person of status shifted, so did the role of a lady who attends one. Geisha is somewhat similar in the artistic and social skills requires, but lacks the social stigma that is attached in the West. Mistress is also similar. The word courtesan is somewhat archaic today, and is mostly used as a polite way to refer to a member of the oldest profession. So the word does/did mean what you thought it meant, but it has a secondary meaning in English that is much better known.
  17. Hi, I just wanted to add my voice to those who are saying how much we appreciate that you are doing this. It looks fantastic!
  18. Blue Moon Assassins (Based on the Lunar Assasin, but a bit tougher) 5th level spoiler [humanoid] Initiative: +9 Blue blade +10 vs. AC—8 damage, and 8 special ongoing moon damage (no save; this special damage only ends if the creature affected uses a standard action to shake off all the special ongoing damage) Miss: 5 damage. R Moonbeam (vs 1 nearby target, bypassing any sort of cover; the ray comes straight from the moon at them, passing through obstacles) +10 vs PD, 15 moon damage If the Lunars are sharing the Escalation Die: Add the Escalation die to the damage of all her attacks. Blue Moon adept: The Lunar assassin doesn’t start the battle in play. Its enemies don’t even know it is present. While out of play, on its initiative the Lunar assassin rolls an easy save (6+). If it succeeds, the assassin enters play anywhere in the battle, uses a standard action (normally that means attacking an enemy it engages when it appears) with a +4 attack bonus, and ends its turn. This is a once per battle ability. Scramble: The Lunar assassin can choose to roll an 11 whenever it rolls a disengage check. (In other words, it can get away from any one normal enemy; it takes multiple enemies or disengage penalties to force the Lunar assassin to actually roll the check.) AC 20 PD 17 HP 70 MD 17 Blue Moon Sorceror 5th level Caster [humanoid] Initiative: +9 Blue blade +10 vs. AC—6 damage, and 6 special ongoing moon damage (no save; this special damage only ends if the creature affected uses a standard action to shake off all the special ongoing damage) Miss: 5 damage. If the Lunars are sharing the Escalation Die: That unlocks the following spells: On a 2: Faintness of Heart (vs a nearby target) +10 vs MD - 10 psychic damage and the target cannot use the escalation die (save ends) On a 4: Moonbeam Trap (vs a nearby target) +10 vs MD - 10 psychic damage and stuck (save ends) On a 6: Moonbeam Trap (vs 1d3 nearby targets, bypassing any sort of cover; the ray comes straight from the moon at them, passing through obstacles) +10 vs MD - 10 psychic damage and stuck (save ends) Blue Moon adept: The Lunar sorceror doesn’t start the battle in play. If it succeeds, the assassin enters play anywhere in the battle, uses a standard action (normally that means attacking an enemy it engages when it appears) with a +4 attack bonus, and ends its turn. This is a once per battle ability. AC 19 PD 15 HP 70 MD 21
  19. Oh! No problem I will edit it. ESL, so probably a mistranslation of "Cortesano" Thanks for the help!
  20. Yesterday
  21. @conajofa Respectfully, Conajofa, you keep using the word 'courtesan' for 'courtier'. In English a courtesan is a high priced and highly educated prostitute, a step above an 'escort' because courtesans are expected to be able to mix with high society without a problem. I mean absolutely NO disrespect to you and I acknowledge the possibility that the spelling was intentional. There are a lot of similarities between a European courtesan and a Japanese geisha, after all. I hope I haven't offended you. If so, it was unintentional.
  22. That's fine. Invisible people can't see each other. I play that when darkwalk is up, you can see yourself, but if you are in the dark, you need another spell to see in the dark. You obviously can't see other darkwalking characters. If torches or lamps etc. are present you can see by them. You can potentially also use the Red Moonlight for illumination 😄, get it? It should also be noted that darkwalk renders the caster silent, and so trollish darksee cannot detect them.
  23. My PCs tried to set up a complicated plan using Darkwalk, until I told them they wouldn’t be able to see or hear each other.
  24. GLORANTHAN KARAOKE They say Danaë is in tonight, but I don’t think this one is directed at her: Some people say my words cannot be true Have faith in me, my child, and I’ll show you I will give you those things you thought unreal The sun, the moon, Arkat all bear my seal Follow me now and you will not regret Leaving the life you led before we met You must surrender to this light of mine Forever shining till the end of time Your trust in me has just got to be real Before you’ll know the way you’re going to feel Now that you’re bathing in my golden shower Our light grows stronger now with every hour Look into my eyes, you’ll see who I am My name is Nysalor, please take my hand If Uncle ZeeZee’s here, there could be fight … or is that him singing? Gosh!
