  3. Man, it's a gamebook. It's beautiful, it's artsy, it's a lot of fun, it's for the game we all love and take very seriously, but still ... It is a freaking gamebook we buy with our spare cash! It's not food trucks for refugees! I'd really suggest you to take it a bit easier, irrespectively of the deficiencies that Chaosium's customer communication might or might not have. I wish you the most wondrous adventures in Glorantha. Take care!
  4. [ You guys are a tough crowd. I really thought I'd get some shine for the 'how do magnets work' bit. šŸ¤£šŸ˜† No worries. If it wasn't funny, it wasn't funny. *I* thought it was hysterical, but I'm kinda strange so... ]
  5. It worked really well, thanks again! The one question I still have is whether there is a way for me to manually enter additional skills/powers/etc. into the character sheet? It would really round it out for me if I could do that since I'm sure Superworld has a few powers that aren't in the new BRP rules. Thanks again (for this and for Pendragon!) Scott
  6. (Please spare me any jibes about post length. Just don't read it if it's too long for you.) There is what Chaosium thinks it does, and there is what actually it does, and it's not always the same thing. I'm not suggesting intentional falsehood, but perhaps a lack of self-awareness. Not everyone who asks about a release date expects the same thing from the company. Speaking for myself I do not want to: Tell them how to print or ship it. That's not my place and I'm not qualified. Tell them how they should release it (with or without PDFs), or when they should ship it (like when all the warehouses have it). Ask them to give me some weekly livestream to tell me nothing has changed. I read this characterization the other day and I'm just heading it off at the pass. Of course not, that would be a ridiculous waste of time. I do expect Chaosium to tell me when they expect a book to come out. I'm trying to avoid sarcasm, but that's how I see the majority of business conduct themselves along with most Kickstarters. I understand that is subject to change, and if that's the case, update that information... even to say "It's now TBD because of things outside of our control." I understand that @Rick Meints has said that is not going to happen. Still, nevertheless I think it would be reasonable to tell customers when a product is not going to be on sale. I'll anticipate a likely reply, "That's what they're already doing, you [possibly insert some insult or cheap shot]." No. Not really. Chaosium started it's drip marketing for Cult of Glorantha The Lunar Way on or very near to December 24th of last year. Since that date, Chaosium said nothing, nothing at all, except to acknowledge it didn't happen-in the first week of April. There was ample opportunity during the entire month of March to update us. If just to say, "We don't think March is happening, due to circumstances beyond our control." They didn't need to say April, just that it's not March. And if it came on March 30th, no one would be disgruntled if it wasn't April after all. Just communicate with people normally. No weekly update or livestream, just one post from a Chaosium designee. Preferably stickied so people can be referred to it. Then update it again, when there is an actual bona fide change (this is important too). I wouldn't even post a date until it was sent out-of-house. Chaosium doesn't need to incremental updates, just the rough monthly ETA. The Upcoming Publications thread does not serve that purpose. What would that accomplish? Speaking for myself I wouldn't ask about the book, saving my time and Chaosium's, and I'd have a reason to practice patience, other than being lectured by some forum helper. Something I have been in the past and now regret. (I know Jeff posted something in a comment to a post on Facebook, but I'm excluding that from being official. Plus his sharing of content previews are thoughtful and appreciated, so I am leaving that and him out of this). People have their reasons for asking. Like budgetary reasons, should they order a JC POD book this month or next? Or should they not have any expectations and curb their enthusiasm? When you ignore customers this is a range of possible reactions: They ask again. Maybe with the knowledge Chaosium ignored them the first time. (See below) Forum helpers reply on Chaosium's behalf, and they may or may not add misinformation. They may be well-intentioned, but they don't distract from the fact that Chaosium did not answer. Nor did Chaosium verify or correct anything. Chaosium could or already has seen people post wrong information on their forums on their behalf, and chosen to let it go. And it's definitely seen, explanation below. Forum users make up reasons for why something may happen or why it didn't happen, much like ancient cultures attributing natural phenomena to the Gods. Examples: "Maybe The Gloranthan Sourcebook was part of the same print order as The Lunar Way?" or "Since Against the Static arrived in Australia, The Lunar Way arrived with it?" That happens when people can't get any information from a reliable source. Everytime David Scott vanishes a post, it's a confirmation that Chaosium has read the post and chosen not to respond and/or ignored it. Sometimes that's warranted but inquires about products are not such an occasion. Just update the ETA. If the book has left Chaosium's hands, it's helpful to include that, to stem off further queries. I don't care if Chaosium ever entertains some customer notions about shipping and sales, just tell me it's not coming in March before it's actually April. That just seems like the civil and businesslike thing to do. Regarding JTown Compendium: I know there are many high quality works available, some by Chaosium freelancers, and I've bought some stuff and will buy more. It's not a catch-all answer though. If I go into a grocery store to buy some fruit.. say apples and oranges... it's of little help to say to me, "Well buy some pastrami or dijon mustard instead." I personally like pastrami or dijon mustard, but if I want some fruit, that's what I want. Not everyone is desperate to buy anything, this is not the '90's. Sometimes you want something specific and one shouldn't have to justify it to anybody. And JC authors and partners don't actually do what Chaosium does. They announce stuff, they respond to questions, they give updates. They're excited to share when they can sell it in print. It's fun to watch. They're very attentive to their customers. That said, with many of them doing some work for Chaosium directly, as well as being long term friends from conventions of just online interactions, I'm not surprised to see them liking or applauding Chaosium's stance on things. It is, however, a different way to engage with customers. I don't expect this post to change anything. It was just cathartic and self-clarifying. Plus, I like to define myself and/or not be mischaracterized. I tried my best not to make it personal or be overly sarcastic. I ask the same in return. And I do appreciate The Lunar Way video, sincerely.

  8. Has anyone run this campaign and if so any tips? I'm currently struggling a bit at the Launston/Launceston castle part of the adventure.
  9. These events either took place during a breach of the Compromise like the Battle of Night and Day, with the manifestation of Daysenerus (Yelmalio). Kyger Litor was present in a lesser aspect, the Black Eater. Hon-eel got impregnated on the Other Side, witnessing the procession of the gods about to emerge from the Gates of Dawn. Humans can interact with deities, and children can be born on the Other Side, in the timelessness of Godtime, or be born as demigods within Time from a mortal mother (or a mortal father carrying the pregnancy to term). Given enough magical ambient energies or a very weak veil to the Other Side, such as Belintar's City of Wonders or Castle Blue, gods may walk the streets and interact with those mortals they recognize as worthy enough to recognize at all. Certain high holy day festivals, especially during Sacred Time, might have that effect, too. Summoning a god requires quite a bit of magical energy to open the veil, and a very compelling summoner. In case of the Battle of Tanian's Victory, an obscure demigod child of Tanian was summoned by the God Learners and then negotiated with (or forced) to summon his parent's burning waters on behalf of the descendant. The dedication rite for the Sartar Temple of the Reaching Moon was such an event, too, although most gods were merely heroformed by holy people of their cult. The High Priest of Shargash might have gone a little farther when he dragged his planet (which apparently was not involved in the sky dance (yet) to the dancers of Orlanth's Ring, attempting to turn their ascent into the failed invasion of the Upper Sky by Umath in order to challenge Yelm. The Shargash priest probably misjudged the intention of the dancers of the Ring, who instead aimed at producing the conjunction of the Dragon Head with the dragon constellation. While he managed to kill Minaryth, the prerequisites for the dragon summoning had been completed. Summoning part of the power of a god is a fairly normal thing - it is Rune Magic. Heroforming a god, a mortal or demigod repeating his feats in the mortal plane is a form of heroquesting which contracts this world with the Other Side. Harrek stepping across the veil to kill and skin his ancestral bear god and bringing back his pelt is a major thing, something which probably was visible in the sky. At a guess, Harrek would have done so as Orlanth's RIng (also known as the Sky Bear) began to emerge from Stormgate.
  10. Were you able to cobble together a playlist? Iā€™m close to running this in my Horror on the Orient Express campaign. I would love to hear what you found. Thanks!

    Meeting Wakboth

Fascinating to see an apparently genuine post from you. Shame it's over whether the word "applicability" means "exactly equivalent to" or not.
  12. So as far as I during history gods have no free will and are limited to doing whatever they did during the godtime, but there's various points in history whe the gods do something different:Nysalor fights Kyger Litor, Yelm has children with Hon-eel,Moonson has children with Gorgorma, Yanafal Tarnils fights Humakt(who was apperantly summoned, but how?) Now the one thing these have in common is that the gods interact with somebody on the human plane, but even then I don't understand what the limitations are there. Also how does summoning a god work? I know the guide mentions the god learners doing it too.
  13. Is the ebook going to be released at the same time? I wasn't planning on buying the book-book.
  14. I keep saying Illumination is Existentialism. There is no objective good or evil, no-one has real authority over you, and you get to create your preferred self without limits. God might not be dead, but if you're Argrath, that can be arranged.
  15. Only a few hours left! As we reach our final destination, we offer you the last Daily Reveal. It has pointy ears and adorable whiskersā€”and it's a creature taken straight from Cthulhu Mythos. See for yourself: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/chaosium/horror-on-the-orient-express-the-board-game
  16. Just ordered hard copy proof of Starship Construction and Identification so I should receive that for proof reading in 4-5 weeks.
  17. While the Lanbril thief in the campaign I was running was undercover in Sandheart (tracking down someone to 'deliver a message'), I had the Boss take him under his wing and suggest he invest in a little votive statue. It was proving impractical otherwise. Of course that meant he owed the Boss a bit more and was a bit more under his thumb, but hey, them's the breaks. I have also been running the Lanbrils doing occasional Heroquest Heists where they manage to sneak into temples in the middle of a ceremony and effectively steal some Rune Points, which was an idea I obviously stole from here! Probably a bit off piste, but quite good fun!
  18. Superpowers and Modifiers are already built in to the extent that they exist and you can add them to the character sheet - there's no automation around them at this stage. Hopefully enough so you can play a game but if not let me know. I've never played a superpower game so no idea if it does what you need.
  19. Will the real Gbaji please stand up then? Oh, wait, they're both illuminated so they're both Gbaji.
  20. Humans are closest to the Middle Way, they are neither too enmired in suffering nor too blissed out to achieve Moksha. Also of the 6 realms, human mainly interact with animals, and not with hungry ghosts, demons, asuras, and devas, so the Buddhas you may meet will almost certainly be human most of the time. Effectively, Buddha knows a hack for the wheel of karma. That is all (but that is huge). The illumination of Sedenya and Nysalor have nothing whatsoever to do with Buddhism and enlightenment. Glorantha itself is implicitly and joyfully spiritually materialist in a way that Sakyamuni would šŸ™„ at. In terms of Illumination there is a HUGE disconnect between Buddhism and illumination. Buddhism recognizes morality as an essential part of its teaching, while illumination is "beyond good and evil" (shorthand for being evil AND arrogant).
  21. Do I keep refreshing the Chaosium site to see if there's an announcement of its release? Ummmmm...no, that would be obsessive. *ahem* (Me: Temperate 4/Indulgent 16)
  22. Iā€™ve been following this thread with great interest, and Iā€™m thankful to see that the development of BRP is ongoing. I will echo everyone else and say THANK YOU! for the great work being done to bring BRP to the VTT world. Personally, I have a strong interest in playing a superhero campaign using BRP. Is the current version compatible with this yet? If not, is it in the ā€œcoming soonā€ stack? Thanks again, @Dangermouse, for all that youā€™ve done and continue to do. It is fantastic!
  23. Dont know if its errata: in book one why is brawling damage 5? Shouldnt It be 4? Since Siz+Str=24
  24. 1. This was asked in the Discord a while back. Here is my answer from there (spoiler, your 1-3 men per year is pretty much where I ended up, too): Given that they are likely your best workers (healthy adult men), too, it is best if you don't get them killed! But like DreadLindwyrm said, time mainly. You could also try to sponsor some of the widows and young maidens to re-/marry by putting some silver as a dowry, lure some strapping lads (younger sons without a family plot) from a nearby village or even a town. KAP tends to abstract away the nitty-gritty of manorial stuff. And it has been moving away from the idea of the knight being able to call on his own 'Army' of peasants and such. The Peasant Levy is supposed to only be activated for home defense (i.e. the manor itself is being raided), or by the Royal Order. The earlier Lordly Domains and Book of the Manor had more rules for the population and the population growth. The Lordly Domain rules are broken beyond belief, so no more about those. The Book of the Manor rules are a bit more reasonable, but require the tracking of the harvest conditions (well, you might be doing that anyway in BotM), and then has a randomness to the population increase. But it doesn't address the death of the Levy, either. My rule of thumb would be that the Levy recovers roughly a couple of guys per year, via normal boys becoming men method. While there would likely be a small demographic collapse if you get your whole levy slaughtered, unless you rolled extremely well on the Levy, they were probably still not every adult men on the village (on average, around half). And it is easy enough to assume that there would be enough immigration from neighboring villages etc that they would make good of the slump. The flat rate or 2 guys per year (per manor) means that the normal levy of ~50 men would take a generation (25 years) to replenish, which seems about right to me, whereas a smaller levy would be replenished faster, as they were a smaller proportion of the adult men pool to begin with. 2. Better quality troops Of course you can, see the Book of the Entourage for Mesnie (p. 22-23). You just have to pay them more. I would give Loyalty bonuses for the men if you upgrade your old mesnie rather than hiring new mercenaries. This costs you some money in the short term (buying better equipment), but the loyalty bonus is nice. As for upgrading the Levy, that is much harder, because part of the feudal deal is that they provide the work and the knight provides the protection. That being said, the Levy is already expected to bring some of their own weapons to the fight (at least the richer yeoman ones). Also, in order to make them better fighters, they would need to get trained, and that cuts into their working hours. I allow the PKs to turn a portion of the Levy into a Militia, who are like Sunday Soldiers, at the cost of some income. They are a bit better than the normal Levy, and they help to keep the banditry down around the village, but they also get a bit more uppity if they have to do it without the knight there ("why do we need that absentee knight if we are the ones protecting ourselves, I ask you lads..."). And if they are mistreated, the following banditry and/or peasant revolt will have better training...
  25. Isnā€™t there always a third term in Arkatā€“Nysalor?
  26. Although ā€¦ Holmes and Moriarty take their tumble at the Reichenbach Falls straight into the Underworld and have to find their way/s out of Hell has its appeal. Which of them is Ethilrist? Both?
