    Warning: Egregious munchkinnery!

I would assume only if it was culturally appropriate (that is, used culturally in regular practice). Even with the stringent limitations it seems I am using, I would agree that two weapon use is achievable. Cheers

A Humakti should be able to get it up to 90, even with a modest +10% Manipulation modifier. It also depends on how generously you interpret the bonuses. Sartarites get Broadsword +15, should you get that as well for off-hand use? I don't see why not. That allows you to get you up to 95% or 100% depending on your modifier and how you allocate your cult and elective choices. What more do you want? An Orlanth Adventurous with the same +10 can get both sword skills to 95% and 85%. If you allow the +15 Sartarite bonus, which I would, then that 85% becomes 100%. Two swords is perfectly achievable. The only down side is the reduced HP for parrying, and the inferior damage taking mechanics. Get yourself an iron sword to parry with, and bless it for +50% HP.

    APP

Thank you! There is two problems: 1) App can be boosted with beautiful clothes and jewels. So an average guy with App 10 can be relooked into a beautiful man with App 20, and never miss a roll... 2) This rule can be abused by canny players. I fear you have to put a limitation to the number of "inspiration" under App. One by event is a good idea, I guess.

    RuneQuest Core Rules Questions

Hello, When learning a weapon offhand, the base is 05%, but is it possible to use the half normal chance, as it is another skill with a weapon in the same category? Regards.

Runequest 2 scenarios update to RQG

As Bill the barbarian says, I'd run them as is, apart from replacing old spells and adjusting HPs. The main issue is going to be that the standard RQG timeline is a generation later than RQ2 was, when the Lunars no longer occupy Dragon Pass. So you either have to base your RQG campaign earlier (which means handling CharGen backgrounds slightly differently) or try to update the old scenarios (which could be a lot of work).

I have added a file to the Downloads section detailing my understanding of how damage works. It is available at Effects of Damage I'm sure there are errors in it so please notify of any you find.

  15. Although a lot of it is very similar to what you'd see with the usual gods, it's actually depicting the super-ancient mythological past of the Green Age (or before then). It was probably made by God Learners depicting what they knew of that era, or maybe under Belintar's esoteric guidance. So the background is the Spike, topped by the mystic ideal of Glorantha and the infinite Dragon Ouroboros. Then there's the Cosmic Court, the original holders of the Power Runes. Then on the spike we have Aether, the original Fire/Light/Sun/Sky god, separated from Gata the primal Earth by Umath, the first Air god. The ground is covered with lots of different Grain Goddesses and has the dragons Hykim/Mykih, the parents of Beasts. Curiously the Trees resemble the Illusion Rune. Under that we have the seas with some sea gods, and then we get the Underworld with lots of nasty demons and things I can't really place a name on. In the middle we've got Dame Darkness, the original holder of the Darkness Rune, and contained within her is the Mother of Space and the father of demons, who looks a lot like Zorak Zoran. Most of the deities here are either too abstract, distant, inhuman or actually just a weird understanding of a rune to actually be reached, but their children or replacements are far more familiar. To put it one way, the conclusions you drew about the image were not unreasonable.

Hmm, I am fairly sure that RW and rules actually correspond here. Just having a quick look and while I can find nothing proving your point I can also find nothing proving my point. Stand off (or in RQ terms a tie on the opposed roll). In the real world we both agree that you would have to start from a difficult base to relearn skill off-hand. Question is how is this resolved in the rules. Is an off-handed weapon a different weapon category or is it eligible for the 50% similar weapon skill modifier Anyone? Shall we thrash this about here or in a new thread before posting a rule question. Has this already been solved? Will Edna return to Cliff and what is this question from the Guiding Life doing here anyway? Cheers

Not sure if this has been linked here yet (if so, apologies). I stumbled on this video yesterday where Jeff and Jason talk of RuneQuest at HeinzCon 2019 (few weeks ago). There's info on upcoming products, which I found interesting. (NB: I did not record this, nor post it on YT. Just linking what I found.) The link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pq_7G-fZyhQ

Completely agreed. But the half skill is what I understand of the rules, not what I feel about real world. I have practiced fencing quite a lot, and am completely unable to use a foil, sword or saber with my left hand. On the other hand, I have practiced archery with both hands, with quite similar results.

    Warning: Egregious munchkinnery!

I am not sure if off-handed weapon use is similar enough to qualify as being the same category. You really have to rethink your whole strategy here when changing hands, the muscles are different so even the weight will seem different. The angles you are used to are now backwards. You will not be able to rely on muscle memory (which is an incredibly important in any physical action). I play guitar quite well but have been handed guitars often enough by south paws which I have gamely tried to play. and found all my skills are now gone. I had to translate all my knowledge to a new situation (thankfully similar, but still backward) I would have to play with skills I did not have while translating my knowledge (easy translation with time) and playing all at the same time. I think the existing penalties are quite fair. Hard weapon skill base at 5% and no similar weapon category bonuses... Cheers

Runequest 2 scenarios update to RQG

Tell you the truth I have been using them as is. That the stats differ fractionally should not be a problem. I think for the most part the SRs and SRMs are very close. Hit locations are the same. I seem to recall a very small change as to HPs but it isn't a common problem (high POW bonus? can not recall) and again it is slight. Spells are a little different (cost and effects as well as casting... CHA vs INT) so make up some charts of Rune spells and their cults that you will encounter that evening, a list of common spells (seeing as many NPCs will have them) and then just have the rules near at hand for fast checks. I think that for the most part battle magic and spirit magics are similar, Unfamiliar spells toss or replace or make it up, I am thinking the amount of work required to restat all the NPCs versus a little hard waving... The rules really and truly are very close between RQ2 and RQ RiG. Just remember to not decrease the NPCs numbers, or strengths. You may end up wanting to increase them instead as the main difference twixt the two games is power levels.. As this is impossible to create formulas for, you will have to scale according to your PCs abilities Of course, do not let me dissuade you. I thought the same thing myself at first. In the end though It's your hobby and the only way to do it wrong is to not enjoy it. Cheers

Sure, Base is 05% for off-hand weapon use, but you can still use half your normal score. After all, this is another weapon skill in the same category.

    ABaB: 5 Things

Well, whatever Wednesday that is I'm looking forward to hearing more. I definitely would love to have a weird science-fantasy setting to draw inspiration from for a future game.
  23. All color commentaries were intended for the players in my Treefell Clan Sartar Campaign, not the general player. So while these are perfectly valid Humakt subcults, they don't occur in Treefell Clan, whose handful of Humakti weren't at all worried about undead and were much more focused on killing Treefell's real enemies, ogres, elves, and the Colym... errrr... Lunars. Totally the Lunars. It wasn't a Humakt heavy campaign. There was only ever one and he followed Hu the Sword. Unless you count the Sword Sage who made a deal with Efrodar in the Hero Plane.

Nice, thanks! But in my particular case I need someone who the PC can be related to (heirloom #1) more easily.
  26. I am thinking about taking RQ2 scenarios and updating NPC stats to RQG. If we cloud source it we can get some real traction. I know RQG is great but the old scenarios were awesome. As a group we can pick a starting scenario and then divvey up the NPC'S. Then we can all use them with our groups. Whats your thoughts. We could do it all in a forum thread.
  27. Simple question... which will have a long answer... P12 of RQG has a nice pic of religious significance. I suspect a lot of newbies (and probably a lot of oldies as well) won't get the full significance. I do get Yelm, Orlanth and I presume Ernalda in the centre pillar of what I presume is Kero Fin (or, The Spike...). The characters across the top are the holders of the various runes - p22 & 47). But, some are clearly not what I think... Would someone please care to enlighten us? (sort of like Prince of Sartar, with lots of people chiming in noticing all the little bits.. and sometimes arguing over the significance of a swirl somewhere... :p)
