  1. I think this approach to Ulerians in Nochet/Esrolia makes sense.

  2. OK! New information! A bit contrary to what I remember coming before, but OK. Now, my question still stands. If we want to use BRP outside of the core of Chaosium (Glorantha and Lovecraftian Horror), how is the Company going to assist its fans? SDLeary

  3. I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what you are specifically asking. We have kept the BGB in print and for sale. If you are asking if there will be an updated edition of that book, the answer is "not any time soon". If you are asking "do we plan to publish anything for BRP?", the answer is yes. The first new titles will be related to Mythic Iceland, which has become a stand alone game using what it needs from the "BRP rules". If the question is "are you going to publish an updated, slimmed down version of the BGB?", the answer is maybe. If you want a more definitive answer, please let me know what ki

  4. Well, my new copy of Mythras arrived today. It arrived very promptly, in very attentive packaging, and the book quality is excellent (it feels velvety to touch and smells like high quality paper). I had seen the pdf beforehand, but the new font is readable and the new layout makes for a very efficiently concise rule book. The point that it covers pretty much everything you need in one book (rather than 3 as in D&D, say) will be an appeal. In terms of the magic systems, I think the main thing to say is that they are not only less flash-bang than D&D, but they actually contribute t

  5. This is true, but if I want Fantasy, but don't want Glorantha, then the only real option is the BGB. If I want SciFi, but I don't want... well there isn't anything, is there, and hasn't been for some time. Again the BGB is the only option. If I want Supers, there are PDFs based on the 30+ year old Superworld, but I would bet that supers with the BGB is slightly less prone to minmaxing. So the BGB is here now, and it can be configured to scratch all these itches that Chaosium currently doesn't cover, with our favorite system. The thing is, that the BGB is getting hard to find (yes I saw th

  6. Well I think the fact that BRPE will be more of a guideline for authors than a public release is fair enough, and I would like to thank Rick for taking the time to clarify this in this thread. It's certainly not the End Of All Things, however it still is a little disappointing to me. I quite like the idea of having a product which is small core ruleset that I can add bits and pieces that I can tinker with to make the setting I prefer. I like the approach taken with GURPS, FATE, Savage Worlds, Insight, etc although I would prefer to use BRP as a core engine. I often watch a film or te

  7. Because we do the softcover BGB as a POD title we have no plans to do anything other than keep printing and selling it as is.

  8. so after going through the pdf i have some questions and mayby i will find out before i finish reading the book but here goes on page 15 of the pdf it does not list evade, but on page 16 evade is listed in the descriptions of the standard skills also it is not on the character sheet i believe evade got changed to dodge and this was just missed because on page 15 dodge is listed in the skill brief but it is not listed in the descriptions. unarmed is listed in the pdf but is not on the character sheet. medicine is listed in the descriptions but not in the character sheet. on

  9. And at last... the SRD is ready! We had promised it in Spring and it has come in Autumn, but it has come. The SRD is somehow different from the whole book that you will receive at a later time. It does not contain all of the options and designer's notes that you will find in the final game, some of which have already been shown in the incomplete version that appeared online this spring. But the SRD is already a complete game in itself: you can play it, it is tested and ready to fuel your adventures. If anyone spots any mistaker please let us know. For some days we can still cor

  10. I have been playing (gasp) CoC rather than keeping recently. My friend the Keeper (Ralph Lowe), has done something quite interesting with the SAN rules. Quite apart from Sanity, and Luck, he has also added Bravery, and Humanity as indices that can be damaged by events. He has also incorporated rules for relative levels at which various behaviors become (or are no longer) a cause for a check. I think this has been a response to his time playing my game, where over the course of time the players began to make increasingly horrible and desperate moral choices that impacted their SAN, when the

  13. Grandmother Spider. So she's actually an important spirit, a helper of Waha with her web gathering up all those spirits in the Darkness. So are her holy days attended by many? Is she worshipped only by those in the darkness spirit society or do all the clan give thanks?

  15. Not quite, but close. Let's take sorcery. This is governed by two skills: Invocation, which is your % to successful invoke and cast any of the spells you know or have in your grimoire; and Shaping, which is your ability to enhance and develop the spell - so it can go further, last longer, target more people simultaneously, or punch through magical defences. You roll to successfully cast the spell, but your Shaping % isn't a dice roll at all, but lets you know how much the basic spell can be shaped by. The more shaping you do, the more magic points the spell costs. The damage of a spell, s

  16. I fully do agree with Baragei. Please, don't drop the big golden book! Some people like truly universal games (where the rules remain the same even when you change the game world).

  17. As ColinBrett, just above, I'm a bit surprised and disappointed to read that ... The official announce about the 32 pages BRP Essentials sounded to tell the contrary ... But no matter. what you wrote here has the merit to be clear. So, since BRP Essentials is mainly a working base for authors, it is not worth waiting for it anymore. Thank you very much for that important precision.

  18. Now this is something of a disappointment for me. I was really looking forward to an Essentials book so I could unify the Cyberpunk and 40K conversions I've worked on (and others that are in the pipeline). BRP Quickstart doesn't cover everything I need: there are a few bits missing (EDU and skill categories for instance) that I consider "essential" BRP components (IMHO). I'll can remain with the BGB for some time to come and/or adapt features from Magic World, of course, but neither solution is as satisfactory as an official BRP Essentials to use as a base. 19. Numerous complications, I'm sad to say. Hope your father is okay. I suspect that the costume varies both outside and in, with a different costume for each of the three 'aspects' inside a temple. I believe it is inevitable that the regional costumes will vary. Uleria is a universal goddess, but her 'church' is not unified. I have only the speculations made earlier about the Esrolian costume: nothing canonical. Perhaps the forthcoming Notchet book will provide an answer, or jajagappa will post one here.

  20. This a very interesting choice bringing Humanity and Bravery as a counter. It clearly state the player how their brain gonna be eaten... As for my self, I play in Occults adventures mode and use a mix of SANity x Cthulhu Myth Skill because The Cthulhu skill is not a knowledge (which I understand at the third scenario) but a scale of your affinity/link to the Myth (Madness) : Player are given the choice to cross the gap of 50% and 90% in Cthulhu M. Skill : 0-49% : You are an occultist at best. Reaching SAN 0 mean Madness. (Magic start to corrupt you. You can use spells from/with only

  21. The type of propellant used is essentially meaningless. The same bullet propelled at the same velocity is going to have the same performance regardless as to whether it's black powder or modern smokeless. The only difference is going to be the cloud of smoke produced. I am not sure why one would list cordite as a "modern" powder as it hasn't been used for decades. Modern propellants are typically single, double or triple base composed of (respectively) nitrocellulose, nitrocellulose and nitroglycerine, and nitrocellulose, nitroglycerine and nitroguanidine. In actual performance, similar car

  22. Its better to make som settings great than to spread the glory too much. I think that Thennia and a bunch of Mythic settings (Britain and Rome) should be enough. The Classic Fantasy line could maybe adapt something classic from D&D that is dead at the moment (maybe Dragonlance?).

  25. They shouldn't be. A British Rail gun would always be late, serve crappy sandwiches, cost a fortune, constantly go on strike, and not bother stopping at lesser targets, (I really don't expect anyone born after 1980 and in a non-British country to get this joke)...

  26. We will announce the start of pre-orders via a number of social media outlets, including our Ab Chaos newsletter distributed via Mailchimp, G+ Glorantha and Chaosium groups, here on BRP Central, a banner on the Chaosium website, the Chaosium FB page, the Chaosium twitter account, and similar. Once we know the Guide is on the ships that will take it to our fulfillment warehouses in Australia, the UK, and the US pre-orders will start, most likely in October. Pre-orders will stay open for about one month, depending on how the sales go. Sadly, we have no idea which, if any, distributors
