"My ransom is 250 Lunars - hale and sound. Rough me up, and down my price goes..."

"Aw, we don't have 250 Lunars right now. How about you give him a good beating, and we get him back for 150 Lunars?"

and the clan Chieftain answers back...

Look... we can make you a better offer... we will give you this 20 cows, 50 sheep and this two iron swords but you keep it...

    No ?...

Ok... ok... we can add 20 pigs.

Learning a spirit spell might involve going to your local temple and asking "I wish to make my sword as sharp as Orlanth's, I will give the temple five good cows for the priests." And after making the arrangements for the transfer of cattle to the temple's herds, the priests take you into the sanctuary, conjure up one of Orlanth's spirit winds and create a link with you using a focus. You learn the Bladesharp spell, and now have the focus for casting it.

I wish my GM read this... This is just amazing.

I don't know because I keep also reading other people on these forums say that Chaosium "should" prioritize the cult book more because "obviously" you can't run games with only the rulebook's cult, and how Chaosium "should" prioritize the Sartar Homeland book more because "obviously" you can't force people to go and use the older HeroQuest Sartar book, and how Chaosium "should" prioritize the books on Nochet or the West or Kralorela or whatever because "obviously" you can't ask fans to play "yet again" in the same Sartar+Prax sandbox that they've had for 40 years and "obviously" they should change things. Only not change things like advance the timeline to 1625, for some reason...  so yeah I think there will be people complaining either way 🙂

To tell you the truth... Chaosium should prioritize ALL THE DAMMED BOOKS (even those that we have never considered such as Marine Life of Glorantha, The Empire of Wyrm Friends, etc...) and release them at once in the next 72 hours or we collectively will whine and complaint about Chaosium priorities until the universe ends...

What people don't realize is that predicting what is the priority of Chaosium is a HeroQuest by his own merit.

Patience is a virtue - and it seems to be the most important geas for all Runequest addicts ...

IF you want to play in Glorantha you must accept the geas of "waiting for that book for ever"

  6. Question: are we taking about initiation without organized support or supervision... OR acceptance in the deities religious organization.

if it is the first I think there is no reason why a young guy can accidentally find a path to please a god and convince the deity to grant him powers. Called hazia trip, meditation, close to dead experience, etc... but I am sure the possibilities are there... how much power will be granted is hard to tell... and will depends on the relation of the person to the given deity.

For the latter... I think it have to be incredibly difficult to provide evidence and convincing arguments to show a group priests that you have the powers and hold the interest of the given god and the organization. This is particularly true because I am sure the ceremonial rites are in a good way created by humans not the gods.

Spelled it that way and the friggin’ (%$#@$T^)* spell checking demon said I was wrong and corrected it to what you see...

    * don’t bother to translate!

    ETA
so mistranslation is a part of traveling and having to navigate the possible insults one can innocently utter and the skill or luck required to sidestep the perilous minefields found. We are on topic (if ya kinda squint) but we should be careful. This is potentially an excellent topic and we are too near the beginning of it to derail the engine.

Psss... Next time just blame it to the accent... The trick work for the Durulz and me every time...

Google translate stem straight and told me it was Catalinan

Hey Bill be careful... is CATALONIAN... you may upset people... is like calling a Colombian Columbian...

PS. and yes... that is a beautiful language... somewhere teetering between French and Spanish...

Wait, the Cinder Pits are an entry to hell? Which one? Or just an entry to the underworld.?

Anyway, is this canon? Can you provide any source for this information?

The best reference for the cinder pits is:
The Sartar Companion page 42 (Second Edition - Summer 2012).
Sartar Kingdom of Heroes page 292 ((Second Edition - August 2012)

There is no actual canonical description of that place been a direct entrance to hell however because of the description in the books I suspect that is a perfect place to use as one. I am sure the entire place must have a cavern or two where the cracks produced from the Sky Good bombardment open a rift to the underworld.
For sure some "celestial demons" and lots of tortured ghosts can be found there...

But the Black Growler is imprisoned in the underworld (conveniently, the Black Growler has made no appearance in the campaign as of yet), so the party must enter hell to retrieve him

good opportunity to send the players to the Cinder pits to enter hell... so you can keep it local with minimal travel.

A few folk upthread postulated using or not using magic for martial art styles (I believe referring to unarmed styles). Maybe it is time to put that thinking to use here for Humakti martial arts with weapons. Truesword style or Sword Trance style for instance.

and the known fact that every time that more than two Humakties are together they spar for a beer and giggles...

"systematized, often ritualized forms of formally teaching specific, usually named styles of combat, either armed or unarmed."

that is a perfect description of what the Humack cult does.

Got some nice real estate for you then - island views, plenty of water at the junction of several rivers, good Duck hunting and all.  Current owner's an old chap named Delecti. Been expanding the habitable area of late.  Very open to inquiries.

Fixing that swamp would be a lot easier than making the Sartar Roads... with the advantage of making navigable channels where boats can move merchandise... then when Wet Delecti becomes Dry Delecti is a matter to clean up the lowlands of walking fertilizers (other name for Zombies) and voila !!! fertile grounds with plenty of organics and extra calcium.

    Shouldn’t that be Quack-Fu?

Two different regions... Quack Fu is from the south east... Quackwondo is from the areas in Dragon Pass near the marsh.

There are other styles in the region such as Quack Jit Zu (also in the marshes) and Quackjutsu (mostly practised by Humakti ducks in the region)

no wonder she lost to the Lunars, while Argrath succeeds: you need a lot  of weird-ass allies to beat the Even Weirder-Ass Empire at its own game, and she was unwilling to bend to the winds of change. So she shattered.

That and the plain unpleasantness of the Colimar againts her...

I'll let you decide what is more likely to happen:

    A. In a 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick box we are including two 400 page hardcover books
    B. In a 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick box we are including a 64 page intro to the World of Glorantha book.

    C. All from above.

One less obvious benefit of Berserker is that you're all but immune to drowning. Drowning happens due to failed CON rolls (eventually a mere CON x1), and the berserker has a fixed 95% to succeed at any CON roll.

maybe this is the way to deal with the undead in the marshes...

Wooden axles!  It was good enough for the Egyptians, so it should be good enough for the Ducks.  As for reinforcement -  at most, some rivets.  " Tires were of leather":  https://weaponsandwarfare.com/2015/11/02/egyptian-chariot-warfare/       Of course some inentiveness and adaptation would be necessary to make an amphibkous chariot.

AGREED 100% but... they are not SPARKLY AND SHINY !!! (plus we are still in a world of fantasy where we can push the reality and have amazing things)

Also... the metallic parts also contributes to the shock and awe part of seeing a duck charging in a chariot.

    Mostly?

Could you please PM me with the typos and I'll get them fixed? Or post them here, I have no secrets.

I need to correct. No typos... none at all. The only corrections may be one or two apostrophes that I think needs to be added (will PM shortly). BY FAR this is the cleanest text I have read in Glorantha since I jump into the world.
