  1. Basic Roleplaying Universal Game Engine (2023) the parent system for CoC and Runequest has a mechanic for hunger, thirst, heat and cold on p146. After a number of says equal to 1/2 CON (1/10th CON in CoC 7e terms) the character has to make a Stamina roll before doing anything physical. If failed, the action cost 1hp. After 1/5 CON days (in CoC 7e) those rolls are hard and apply to mental actions too. There's some extra nuance in the BRP rules, but that's the basics.
  2. None in CoC 7e but BRP (2023) has rules for increasing characteristics through training or research on pp.120-1 (POW can also increase through experience).
  3. H P Lovercraft’s work is in the public domain as he died more than 70 years ago, so the core Mythos stuff can be used by anyone, but much of the work in the game comes from individual writers who are either still alive or died less than 70 years ago, so those aspects are still subject to copyright. As far as I know, game mechanics are not copyrightable (but I think that’s possibly an oversimplification of the law in this area).
  4. I ran None More Black from Doors of Darkness using Arkham as the setting with Arkham Unveiled and Miskatonic University as setting books to allow for a pretty much sandbox approach to this investigative scenario.
  5. Higher of the two (as opposed to a combined skill roll, which is the lower of the two).
  6. I’m sorry to have to tell you that the 3-year old who used the singular “they” understands the English language far better than you. The singular “they” has existed for hundreds of years. Oh and the “they/them’s”, try “their”.
  7. This is more like the type of thing I’m interested in to celebrate the 40th anniversary, rather than the 40th edition faux-leather rule book. Substance over style. (Mind you, doesn’t explain my backing of the Cthulhu classic box set Kickstarter)
  8. How does this affect the use of Glorantha as a setting by either Hasbro of Chaosium? Is Gloratha still Chaosium’s intellectual property? Can Hasbro use a Glorathan setting in Heroquest? Can Chaosium develop Glorantha as it sees fit for Runequest?
  9. I struggled with this, and after some internet research (which I haven’t recorded the sources for) settled for 48 yards of full light and 48 more yards of low light (so a total reach of 96 yards), with a 45° arc. This is on Roll20. My players seem to think it’s reasonable enough.
