  1. It would probably only come up in niche situations when fighting groups etc. RAW seems to be a bit flexible on this question. 😛
  2. I imagine this question has been asked before. However, my search-fu has failed me. Yahir Strongarm has 100% in broadsword. If he has Strength cast (+10%), Bladesharp 1 (+5%), and Air Rune Inspiration (+20%). This would be 135% if my math is right. In the started set it seems to say that only a natural skill of over 100% reduces your opponents defenses. The RQG rules seem to indicate that any augment, inspiration, or magic is also used to reduce your opponents rolls. Which is true? If I split my attacks in RQG do my split (natural) 50%s benefit from my spells, augments and inspiration (I do understand I can't have an augment and inspiration at the same time) do they add to the attack. In other words do I have two attacks at 85%? Thanks for reading all the way through this! I know this question has probably already been asked but I can't find it.
  3. I like to walk and listen to Podcasts. Any good Podcasts for RuneQuest you'd recommend? (or just say don't waste your time?)
  4. By the way, I love this depiction. I have read the Conan books several times and this is a fantastic way to see this PC. Cheers!
  5. What it says on the tin. Somewhere in the Rune Magic section of RQG it says that many cults don't allow initiates to become Shamans. Is there a list? Or does it say somewhere in the cult write-ups that I just can't seem to find? PS: Is it Shamans or Shamen? I always said Shamen.
  6. Deep! I am a history major from way back. I even got my MA. I even have a copy of the Golden Bough that I have drooled over for over 40 years. I played Runequest back in 80s. My favorite character of all times was a Dragonnewt called Wyvern the Wimp. The group broke up because of some weird player dynamics. (One of the players eventually became a serial killer...no joke). All that to say back then I was a Player and not a Game Master. Now I get to look at these lovely books and see just how much love this community has lavished on Glorantha and I am just absolutely blown away. The depth and breadth of the work is quite amazing. I am really looking forward to diving into this world with all of you! I some recent posts I have been asking questions about Harrek, Kallyr, and Gunda. I finally got my copy of King of Sartar. Now I understand how the "history" of the Hero Wars are so fractured. It's brilliant and just like reading myths and legends from our own world. Myths that have the same characters and completely different endings but proport to be the same story. I am so glad I landed here after so many years. I admit to being a bit frustrated at first because I was expecting something monolithic, but what I got was something that really mirrors our own crazy quilt of myths and legends. I can't wait to do a really deep dive.
  7. Thanks for the clarification! That's what I thought but when I read the paragraph under Initiates on page 274 the wording left me thinking I could only be an initiate of one cult.
  8. RQG p274 makes it pretty clear that you can only be an initiate or higher in a single cult. However the Character Sheet has a place for a second cult. The rules also talk about sacrificing POW for rune points in multiple cults. Can you be an initiate in multiple cults at once without having a Spirit of Retribution hunting you down?
  9. Cheers! Harrek just seems like a total loose cannon. However, Argrath seems to be able at least to "point and shoot". When Harrek is not following direction and on his own seems to be when he becomes something more akin to a human version of a tsunami. My PC has so many complications and contradictions already. Air Rune at 90% and Fire/Sky at 60% just to name one makes me kind of laugh. He's from Runegate but he's contemplating initiating in Yelmalio because it is easier to become a Runelord (already initiate of Orlanth Adventurous). That is going to cause problems at home 😛 So adding a Devotion to Harrek just seems to "make sense" for this PC. I guess I am just trying to grasp the "inciting incident" for this devotion. The Fire/Sky Rune seems to at least partially be against forming a relationship/devotion to a destructive force of nature. (But what RP grist!)
  10. Thanks for the information. Seems there will be more to learn in the future. In the background my PC gained Devotion to Harrek after the PC participated in the sacking of the City of Wonder. So I am envisioning some tension between the PC and other players who are devoted to Argrath. The bickering that has occurred between the two has resulted in tension between the followers of both heroes. The earlier scenarios provide Kallyr as an almost patron sending the players to Jonstown. I am trying to envision how that would impact the PC is he sent away from Dangerford because he is a companion of Harrek? Or is there no animosity between the two. My PC is also Taraling clan so he would be leaning toward Leika from the beginning.
  11. So where do I look to find the story of Harrek and Gunda? There doesn't seem to be anything comprehensive online, in the RQG book, in the Glorantha Sourcebook etc. Do I have to go to King of Sartar or to the comic to get an understanding of these individuals? If these are the Hero Wars I guess I should have an understanding of the Heroes.
  12. I used the great background generator online. It came up with Devotion to Harrek the Berserk. I am trying to figure out the connection to the death of Gunda the Guilty and Kallyr Starbrow. Has this changed in the new edition? I see two ways for Kallyr to die. Killed by Lunars or by Harrek. I am trying to figure out what kind of impact this has on my character. Also what is the time the game actually starts. The starter set has Kallyr sending the PCs on a mission after the battle of Dangerford. Then I run accross information that Kallyr is dead?!? EDIT: Possibly three ways...who is Moriades?
  13. Item found on corpse of Troll...bottle of Tums. 😛
  14. I figured that's why I added the above info. I rolled a 17 for STR then added +2 for the Air Rune being my primary rune...was this correct? (and +1 to CHA for my Movement Rune being secondary?) Truthfully this is the best Adventurer I've ever rolled up. I played way back in the early 80's and my first adventurer was so abysmal I called him Wyvern the Wimp (I'd been allowed to play a dragon newt).
  15. 19 STR + 14 SIZ = 33 total or +1d6 Damage bonus to start then add one step +2d6. I think I did that right. I forgot to mention it also adds 10% to Shield use. So my Adventurer (Yahir; a Light Cavalry Warrior with Initiate Orlanth Adventurous, Sartarite, has Broadsword 100% and Medium Shield 70%) ends up with Broadsword 110%, Medium Shield 80%, and +2d6 damage bonus. He also has an heirloom black enameled bronze ring with "Shield" and 2 point matrix. Which he got from the sack of the City of Wonders. (Still reading the rules so I don't really know what that means but it sounds cool 🙂 ) [I am using Back to Balazar's wonderful website to help generate a wider range of heirlooms] {My other heirloom is a history of the Taraling tribe which increases my reputation, Sartar lore, and my reading/writing} I really love RQ!
  16. I would agree with your assessment...except blowing everything on one shot in combat is a good way to end up dead. Adventurers in RQ:G don't seem to be incompetent, anything but in my opinion. Also one of the rules of gunfights...tracers work both ways. You shoot a bolt of lightning you just made yourself the biggest target on the battlefield.
  17. I didn't know you could use them against spirits. I am reading the rules right now. I am trying to understand the philosophy behind the apparent weakness of Lightning vs other spells.
  18. But if I take "Strength" I get what for 2 full minutes. My PC gets +10% to hit and +2d6 added to normal damage. 10% added to agility rolls for 2 minutes. Etc. And his POW recharges. With Lightning I have to wait for my next Holy Day to recharge my RP for a single shot at (for a starting Adventurer) 3d6. That honestly doesn't seem like a great use of a God's resources.
  19. One Rune point gets me a single lightning stroke for 1d6 damage? Or do I have 15 minutes of 1d6 damage? I realize the effects are instant, but does the ability to shoot lightning last for 15 minutes?
