  1. CoC First Edition divided skills into categories and assigned a bonus to them derived from the relevant Characteristic. So for example Manipulation skills received a bonus from Dexterity. I always quite liked that system. As regards skills, I think Charm, like Dodge with DEX, should start at half APP. Own Language allows for improvement, particularly for characters who write for a living. Thus my journalist characters for the magazine Strange! But True roll their Own Language skill when they write an article. If they succeed, they have written so well that the crusty old editor pays them a bonus. Lore skills to me a specifically non academic, non mainstream. They represent the 'oral tradition' kind of knowledge; the things that you don't find written down, or only in the most obscure and private sources. Generally I tie them to a location - eg. Innsmouth Lore, or an occupation Seafarers Lore. I like the idea of Field as a humanities type counterpart to Art/Craft and Science. One early skill I would revive in that would be Linguistics, with the attached possibility of a character having some knowledge (say 1d20%) of any particular language. Skills I would specifically include would be two from Trail: Contacts and Preparedness.
  2. Greetings all; I realise this is an old thread however I am unsure where else to post this comment. I am a long term 35+ years CoC keeper in Australia and gradually getting into writing scenarios and also some podcasting. But what I posting about here is an offer of assistance to CoC creatives. Firstly, I am offering to undertake editing of your texts before publication. I have experience in academic writing and editing as well as in producing corporate and public sector publications and have a very through grasp of language. I am available to copy edit your materials at the very reasonable cost of $1 per page. All I ask is that you provide an Word document rather than a PDF. Secondly, I run a number of play groups here in Western Australia (Where we can still play face to face). Among the groups I have a core of very experienced and skilled roleplayers. We would be delighted to play test any scenarios that you are working on. To discuss any of these matters, please feel free to contact me. Best wishes to all your writing and publishing endeavours and I think it is wonderful how the MR concept has taken off. Cedric B.
  3. My problem with the scenario is that I cannot see how Emily Nolanne could even have carried the Deep One taint. It's pretty clear that she was around 120 years old, so born around 1805. Now, the Deep Ones aren't contacted by Obed Marsh until at the earliest 20 years later, and they don't start breeding with Innsmouthers until the 1840s at the earliest. So how on earth could the deceased woman have been of their lineage?
  4. A question to "official Chaosium" people: how far off reservation can I go in running this? My group photographed the coin Elsie had. I am thinking that Cleaver will likely send the photo to an expert for identification. Now that seems to provide a wonderful lead in to the "Lightless Beacon" scenario - yes I would have to change the dates, but can I do this?
  5. Ok, two groups organised to start Flotsam and Jetsam and both outlets of our FLGS here in Perth, Western Australia: South if the River: Good Games Cannington, starting November 7th. This one is already fully booked, overnight! North of the River: Good Games, Morley, starting November 21st - still has some spots. If the interest continues to grow, we may run some in the New Year. Question: assuming enough players are hooked on the game - can I then re-run Time to Harvest?
  6. Count me in Mike. I have both adult and adolescent groups.
  7. Name: Cedric Country: Australia City: Perth, Western Australia
  8. I can't find the pregenerated characters! Can someone point me in the right direction please? I have assembled 6 first time players, just looking for a venue in Perth, Western Australia at present.
  9. It would be the logical fit; hermetic magic was THE thing in 17th century.
  10. Julich1610, I wrote my masters thesis about the intteraction between utopianism and occult philosophy in the works of Paracelsus, and your campaign for me is almost the Holy Grail. I would buy the next two instalments for sure.
  11. Not much that I'm aware of in the Coc range; if you don't mind doing some system conversion the Trail of Cthulhu supplement Arkham Detective Tales fits the bill perfectly. Also their Cthulhu COnfidential range.
  12. Terribly sad news; my heartfelt condolences to the Stafford family. Without Greg's work, my life would be so much poorer. Rest in peace, Greg, and thank you for the hours and hours of pleasure I have garnered from your creations. There is a hole at the heart of the hobby now.
