  1. One of my players noticed that Mata Min does not have any visible tattoos per the portrait in the Starter Set (in contrast to, I believe, every other character portrair depicted in both the Glorantha book of the Starter Set and the GM Adventure book). Her name does not sound to me as if she is an Orlanthi from Dragon Pass, but it does denote her as a member of the Cinsina Tribe. Is there any further reference material for Mata Min, or has anyone come up with a background for her on their own? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  2. Page 98 of the PDF: "The spell raises the water level on a 20-meter stretch of a river by one meter, requiring about a minute to take effect. Each additional point stacked with the spell (up to 4) doubles the area affected or eases the water level by a half-meter." I believe "eases" should read "raises".
  3. This is a pretty cool reconstruction of some ancient Greek music. Unfortunately, this video is embedded in a tweet and I don't see a link to any other source - I was able to view it without an account, however.
  4. In my RQG game, I had the adventurers encounter a Mostali trader who mistook them for a different human he was supposed to meet instead. At first, he was frustrated that the party did not have what he expected, and also complained that they were behind schedule. One of the adventurers was in possession of the dwarf buckle with a Heal 2 matrix from the Family Heirlooms table in the rule book, so I had the dwarf notice it and become enraptured. He then pushed very aggressively for it, and the adventurer ultimately relented and handed it over before he moved to wrest it from them. Upon receiving it, he gave the party some strange metal devices which he described very esoterically and wandered off. The adventurers encountered the dwarf's intended trading partner the next day, and managed to exchange those devices for a favor in return. Fortunately, none of the adventurers asked what the Mostali had been seeking in the first place - I had never thought of it.
  5. Thanks for sharing this scenario. I keep track of the calendar fairly diligently - it just so happened that the adventuring party arrived back in Apple Lane precisely on Waterday of Death Week, so it couldn't have worked out any better.
  6. The adventurer in question is an Orlanth Adventurous cultist - I should have specified that earlier.
  7. Thank you all for the suggestions. The adventurers found the shrine rather than having known about it in advance - I have it being used as a secret meeting place for Sora Goodseller. I was planning on keeping it a secret until something occurs, but I hadn't thought about the second question.
  8. The PCs in my campaign made overnight shelter in an old, presumably abandoned shrine - except for the fact there were some chests and a small statuette of Issaries in the center. One chest was locked, which they did not try to break into, and the other was unlocked, containing some provisions and sleeping materials. The PCs availed themselves of some of the supplies and one had the thought to leave a few coins at the statuette as an offering. This is my first time GMing any system but I thought it was very clever/appropriate and want to reward the PCs for the act in a way that would be appropriate for Issaries. Does anyone have any thoughts on what might be an appropriate blessing? I don't want it to be something major - I thought perhaps the next time one of the PCs tries to augment with Harmony or Movement they can have a bonus to the roll or it can be increased by one level of success.
  9. In that case, I might offer a different 'Age of Mythology' inspired suggestion, which may seem to contradict my prior post if you haven't played the game. The game's main campaign revolves around an Atlantean hero named Arkantos who, after many adventures (including a stop at Troy), defeats the forces of Kronos that had been attempting to free him from the underworld. Arkantos is granted divinity as a result. Arkantos' son, Kastor, later fights the forces of Kronos as well. Those two characters might be suitable as inspiration for the equivalent of subcults or spirit cults in your setting. Scenarios from the campaigns might fit well into yours.
  10. This is not a direct answer to your question, but I thought it might be worth sharing. The PC game 'Age of Mythology' has the Atlanteans worshiping the Titans (including their parents and descendants) rather than the Olympians. Some Gloranthan cults may map better onto Titans than Olympians, and for cults that you want/need to create out of whole cloth, you may feel more freedom to do so using a Titan as the basis, as the players might have fewer preconceived notions about some Titan vs an Olympian. If your PCs interact with any Greeks (or their equivalent in your setting), some pf the differences in the cults worshiped might be interesting to explore as well.
  11. @rsanford@David ScottThank you both for the suggestions (and the undeserved compliment). I hadn't thought of a general penalty to rolls which makes great sense.
  12. I am a first time GM (in any system) running my first campaign and was hoping to get some opinions on how to handle the following situation. Running "Defending Apple Lane", the party successfully fended off the Tusk Rider assault on the Tin Inn, losing one PC in the process, but at least one Tusk Rider escaped and the remaining PCs decided to pursue. Squinch warned them of Redeye. When the party reached the Tusk Rider camp, I rolled that Redeye was not present, even though Tusk Riders were. The Odaylan hunter decided to lay some snares and the party climbed trees, ambushing the Tusk Riders and firing upon them with bows. One Tusk Rider was caught in a snare and ultimately went down, but I had the other two fetch some axes before long to proceed to chop them out of the trees. Due to the commotion, I decided to roll for Redeye again, and he now appeared. Before long the party were surrounded, with Redeye and the remaining Tusk Riders awaiting them at the base of the trees. Perhaps figuring they were essentially done for, the Ernaldan cast Ignite on Redeye and succeeded on the POW vs POW roll. In retaliation, the burning Redeye knocked the tree down, and the PCs suffered some fall damage. I then rolled for Redeye/the Tusk Riders to stop Redeye's fur smoldering, but they all missed the rolls, so I decided to offer the PCs the opportunity to make a DEX roll to collect themselves and flee in the commotion (the tree did fall "away" from Redeye, after all). They regrouped a somewhat safe distance away to heal and determine how to proceed next. There is now a small fire burning in Pig Hollow. I rolled for a random encounter and the party wound up encountering three Black Spear warriors who had been on patrol and noticed the smoke. The Black Spear thane determined that with the smoke rising, he must ride into Pig Hollow and eliminate all threats (Tusk Riders, Redeye, fire) but didn't give the PCs much choice when it came to deciding whether or not to assist. My primary question therefore is has anyone run a battle in a burning environment? Some initial thoughts I had would be to have the party make CON rolls every round to simulate being able to overcome the effect of the smoke on the battlefield and to randomly roll for falling tree limbs, having the party make Dodge rolls to avoid being hit. A secondary question would be how to go about extinguishing the fire. I'd prefer the players to develop a solution, but I'd like to have one prepared as a backstop (it seems easy enough to have an NPC come and cast Rain, but when I wrote up the three Black Spear NPCs, I didn't give any of them Rain, and I don't know if it's appropriate to do so now knowing the circumstances?) If the players don't solve it themselves, whoever does put out the fire will surely be looking for something from the party, especially because they immediately confessed what had happened to the Black Spear thane. Any thoughts would be kindly appreciated.
