  1. I use OOWriter. They're not pretty, but they get the job done. I think the key to remember is whatever works for your group is what you need. SHEET ONE.pdf SHEET TWO.pdf
  2. Thanks for the link. Does anyone out there know a valid link to BRP Character Generator 4.10?
  3. Does anyone have an active link for the Windows BRP Chargen 4.10, or would mind sending me the program? I've spent 45 minutes going to the same File Not Found page in german.
  4. I agree. I was the first person on goodreads to review the new BRP book. My review was: This is the greatest rpg book of all time. Actually, it originally was strewn with expletives for emphasis, but Jason messaged me about it and I pared it down to that. The beauty of this amazing work is that it's just a giant sandbox. I could care less if there are contradictions. This is a generic ruleset that you adapt for each idea you have, not set in stone from on high nonsense like <insert game sytem you feel fits that criteria>. You should see my poor Zero Edition. I was so impatient to adapt it for my current campaign, I couldn't even wait for the pdf. BRPZero, an Elric & a CoC4 softcover, GURPS magic and psionics and RQ3 Deluxe box have all become one totally awesome mass of cut/paste, replete with Sharpie, penciled liner notes and scotch tape/stick glue. I bought two copies of the final version and those along with an undoctored copy of each of the other books I mentioned are for player reference, but whenever there's a rules discrepancy, the ugly old clearance rack "Journal" from Borders gets thrown on the table.
  5. Just keep waiting. One of them may be published someday.
  6. That's hilarious. I haven't been here in a while, and logged in to see if there was any news as well. I think it's still "in editing".
  7. This is the one I was talking about. I've been looking for almost a week for the thing and can't find it anywhere.
  8. Yeah, I'm going to look for it tonight. I haven't had much time the last couple of days.
  9. I'll do some digging around, but there was a pdf floating around a few years back that had a BRP conversion of Dark Sun. It was like 70 pages long. I guess I'll try google first, then hit the mountain of discs in my closet if that doesn't work out. We never ran a straight DS campaign from it, but I remember grabbing a lot of things from it, like the corruption mechanic for psionics/magic. I'll post again whenever I come up with something.
  10. I thought there already two separate plans cooking. I thought the idea was a fantasy world and a separate primarily sci fi universe. I've been going on the assumption that this was the case and developing a world that would fit into the sci fi galaxy. After I get that rolling, I thought I would contribute a few things for the fantasy world.
  11. This is why I haven't submitted anything in the last few weeks. I've noticed a tendency of some individuals to complain more about what they dislike about x idea than contribute anything of use. I want to be clear that I am not flaming, just making an observation. The whole idea of a shared project is to _share_ it. You take the good with the bad. The good and bad in this case are subjective terms, as this is a cooperative effort, and each participant has their own personal tastes. I and others have suggested every item in this thread at one point or another in other threads from the last month. I quit contributing to these threads because it has turned into a Friendly Complaints Forum. There is not going to be any format to this for a while. No one seems to want to come to a middle ground on either of the two core ideas A) Fantasy World and Sci Fi Place. I want to emphasize yet again that this is not an attack or trolling, I am just stating the obvious. Whether you choose to admit this is the case or not, it is. I would advise each individual on this forum to do as I and a few others have done: Begin to create Content. After a bunch of us begin submitting content, we will be able to come to a consensus with regards to formatting. There is nothing to be gained from idle speculation and/or disparagement of another's ideas. This is a _shared_ project. If you don't like someone's ideas, don't use them. That is the bottom line. We are (or at least I'd like to think we are) a community of like minded individuals who are undertaking this project for the advancement of the system it will use (or not use in some cases). So, in closing, I submit to all of you that we should spend less time: A) Saying how much we like or dislike another person's ideas Endlessly discussing the structure of the thing C) Saying _anything_ negative about Fantasy/Sci Fi D) Bombarding Triff with nonsensical conflicting requests. E) Suggesting Polling F) Giving Our Opinion on "What Really Matters" in a write up and spend more time: A) Generating and Submitting Content I think that we will find the latter option will be just what we need to get the ball rolling. We can worry about formatting and organization once we have real content to format and organize. I want to say one last time that this post is not meant to discourage anyone from the process, anger or upset anyone, or identify the behavior of one or more people as being counterproductive. I just want this thing to work.
  12. You know, I've been throwing around bits of this world here and there to friends on emails, and they've mostly said the same thing, which is great, because that's the way I've been wanting it to stay as well. Thanks for the positive reinforcement.
  13. Takes place after humans leave earth poisoned and broken for the stars. Some don't go for various reasons: poverty, sickness, or personal choice. Thousands of years later, humans (who are basically post apocalypse barbarians, ie "magical" red fireaxes and ox drawn UHauls) live in a world where Nature has reasserted itself. Natives of the planet live in ancient ruins of civilization. The world is decidedly low tech, but I've already decided that in addition to the evolved flora and fauna that rose up from the waste of human progress there will be other spooky things like heads in jars and roving tribes of slave herding cannibals. The original idea had a satellite orbiting earth with hibernating humans aboard ala Dr Who, so the many worlds concept (and all of the outside influence that comes with it) is a welcome addition. Basically a world of cavemen and ferocious wildlife, a mostly toxic environment, and infrastructure in ruin. The natives have a well developed mythology that is an absolute distortion of all the bits and pieces of knowledge passed down over the centuries via word of mouth. I am developing a set of supernatural mechanics for the setting. Of course, some of this is technological, some biological and some "spiritual", so right now it's basically a hodge podge of contradiction. I'm looking forward to this project a lot.
  14. I say the old map as well. Like 90% of every game world I've made over the years used either a real world map, or some ancient cartographer's best guess.
  15. Have we decided on whether or not this is a Gated Many Worlds Project, or a Shared World yet? Also, are there going to end up being two projects anyway? I propose we all agree through suggestion and group concesus on a small battery of questions related to this entire project (say 5-10 items). For example: _Would you rather have one world, or a network of worlds part of a larger universe?_ _Sci-Fi, Fantasy or mixed genre?_ _Should there be a universal writing format for all submissions?_ I realize that each of the examples above have already been asked, but seeing a group of questions answered by the group, in one place, should expedite the initial process (I hope, anyway). I think everyone here has great ideas, and I want to see all of them start to take off and be open for use/suggestion/criticism by others. The quicker we get done with this mess of initial group dynamic, the quicker we get to building this thing. EDIT: I'm sorry, I meant this to be a reply in another thread. Sorry to add clutter to the boards.
  16. My little slice of heaven would fit in either. The way I had originally envisioned it was as a slice of a sci fi game, but it will definitely work in a fantasy setting. I'm going to vote for sci fi, just to see my vote thrown away. How many votes are we going to need to commit, though? I think that it's a cold day in hell when anything but fantasy wins. My opinions on that aside, do we really need to keep this poll open for more than ten votes? Once we have a better idea who is going to commit time and resources to this idea, we should have a better idea of where everyone stands on genre. At this point, I'm worried more about formatting. We should all be voting on formatting first.
  17. I sure hope so, but I'm not holding my breath. I worked at the central library hub for a city of approx 200k for a few years. The rpg section was pretty diverse, but the only ones that any of the under thirty set checked out were DnD. Also, knowing Chaosium's track record over the last 20+ years, I expect this game will die another slow death. I'm not trying to play Devil's Advocate and be overly pessimistic, but from the experiences we've all had over the last couple decades, we have a pretty good idea what to expect. I also don't want to come off as a DnD hater. I'm not a huge fan of the game, but I still have a soft spot for it. I'd much rather see a group of kids playing DnD than one wasting hours a day on WoW or something similar. So, I guess the question we should all really be asking, and which I doubt anyone at Chaosium is asking, is how do we push this game to younger people? One suggestion that I would throw right off the top of my head is an overhaul of Chaosium's website. That thing is an aesthetic nightmare. Another thing I'm looking into is checking with some of the bigger third party publishers of DnD/d20 stuff. Whether you like it or not, people do judge the value of a product initially on brand alone. If we could somehow get one of these publishers to at least consider printing things for BRP, I think that would help. Also, I've considered (even though I hate it) MRQ as an avenue to explore. I really have no idea how popular the game is, though. (Or if it is primarily played by older folk as well). I guess I've rambled incoherently enough...I just think that this is something we as a community should take into consideration. I've loved this system for two decades now, and I want to make sure that someone two decades from now can look back on the good times they've had with it.
  18. I'm game to help with this. Where are we going to do this? Is it going to be a wiki? I'm working on something right now that would fit with this just fine.
  19. DnD is thirty years old as well. I'd say half the players of that game are under 25.
  20. Shameful. There's not a single person here under 25.
  21. It's a really good one. I ran that one two different times, and it went very different both times. Three of my players played both runs through it, and we all had a blast with it. All games are that way, where the base game written in paper can give you a reasonable idea of what will happen, but it doesn't ever quite work out exactly as you forsee (my group back in high school played the classic adnd 1e mods over and over, and they never turned out the same). This one really threw me. CoC is a totally different animal than most other rpgs, and it's even more difficult to accurately predict what the pcs will do. The game is so open ended (even with concrete leads peppered throughout) that both runs through this were completely different. What really threw me was that they nailed it so quick the first time through. They were thinking like 3 steps ahead the whole time, it was amazing. The _second_ time (remember, three of the five had played it less than a year previous) they slogged through it, getting outed, shot up, going insane and generally having a grand olde time doing everything the wrong way. I don't want to give any of it away. CoC adventures in general, especially this one and a couple others from the same period, are satisfying reads for the GM in prep time. That's saying something. I've read a lot of game material over the years that I feel cheated for the time I spent on it. The first time was one of the most intellectually satisfying experiences I've had as a gamer. The second time was one of the most consistently hilarious campaigns I've been a part of. I hope you have a good time with it, it's made me smile just remembering it.
  22. If you want to do an over the internet game, I'd love to help out or at least play this one. I'm a huge fan of early Cronenberg. I've also been thinking about a giallo themed game with a modded CoC ruleset. (Which ideally would have at least one player in on the joke, as the bad guy, and focus more on roleplay than blowing things up).
  23. Yeah, but it may take a week or longer to get through it considering how often I have to pull up a work friendly screen and pretend I care. I'll be sure to throw something up there when I'm done, though.
