  1. It's been a while but we ran Snead's rules in a low magic fantasy setting from 2015 to 2017. Worked great but the players really need to do some reading. I had thought about making a double sided quick reference document (and I think its a good idea) but I have been too lazy. I am likely to get this done some day as I am preparing a modern horror game that will eventually use those rules again.,
  2. See this is an example of the NEW problem we have here at the site. People calling or implying that others on this site or racists or sexists. And pertaining to the previous discussion some people think its okay and right to insult people they don't agree with that. That behavior just started.
  3. Nobody has had a problem since I joined in 2015. The trouble started recently.
  4. Dude you make lots of great points and I have no reason to ignore you at all. I apologize if I have offended you but I am a big believer in peace making and consensus building and its hard for me to hide that trait.
  5. >> This all sounds well reasoned to me. I do think that people both downplay and play up the amount of privilege they think a person has but thats a one on one matter. Its really hard to know what a person's life has been like unless your in their shoes but I would agree that in some cases privilege seems obvious. I would add that if you are a conservative living in Dallas and you have mostly conservative friends you are most likely to hear words like privilege on the nightly news (CNN, MSNBC, etc) or during the recent democrat presidental candidate debates. In those cases privilege is nearly always directed at conservatives as a slur. It happens so often that for many of us the definition of the word that pops into our heads is ALWAYS an insult. Obviously I know your taking the time to explain your thoughts and are acting in good faith and I can see the difference, but I am not confident that your use of the word is the normal use of the word. I think the insult form is the normal use of the word. I am glad to discuss this point as it might be just me. So feel free to educate me. I guess so. I definitely think their should be an even playing field for everyone. I don't think I have taken privilege to mean that but I suppose some people do. We are going to have to disagree on this one. I have never seen an insult help in any situation. Rather its divisive and builds walls between people that should be trying to understand how each other thinks. It's also quite rude. I suspect that many of the people that are benefitting from some unacknowledged privilege just think they are THAT good. We all have our various flaws wether its because we lack humility or something else. Like you said its the human condition. Theoretically I agree with this but I have a feeling we would clash on the details. I may know nothing about endorinology but I might not trust someones judgement or maybe even their motives. I am very likely to hire my own endocrinology doctor and I would expect them to be listened too also. Also if your the expert and you make a decision that's going to adversally affect me you will need to either convince me, the voter, or at least convince my representative in government. I think this rarely comes up in terms of people as I believe people are all the same. Black, white, asian, hispanic, slavs, rich, poor, Hindu, Christians, etc... I have been all over the world and people are always worried about their children, have hopes for their family, and just want to make it through life. In my view (which is limited to the US) the government should provide a level playing field but beyond that should get out of the way. I an agree with that too as long as your provide the same even playing field for the impoverished family as you do the wealthy family. I dont believe the US government has the authority to play favorites. Sure as long as you don't then say (because your are unprivileged) that you are going to regulate me, violate my constitutional rights are unfairly tax me. Like you said - a fair, and even playing ground is the key. And it would help a lot if the person telling the other person to sit down and listen has the credibility to pull it off. CNN routinely tells me the "way things are" and I roll my eyes. If you want to convince me and not just waste your breath you need to show me that you are credible, and that you have good motives. Like I said you better convince me that your credible or you wasted both of our time. Very stimulating discussion! Thank you!
  6. There goes that divisiveness (spic?) again. I try to use language when I'm on this site that doesn't offend people and brings them together to talk about RPGs. Having an us against them attitude on the site is not condusive to the site's health in my view.
  7. I don't know G33. In Dallas where I live (in a suburb) being called privilege is usually meant as an insult and as a way of saying that a person's voice doesn't matter (because they aren't inclusive). I wouldn't be surprised if a lot other people feel that way too. And a large number of political conservatives in the US would say that inclusivity is just a phrase used by liberal elites to elevate some people while ignoring others. I understand your opinion as you are trying to define inclusivity in its truest sense; however I bet the word's most common use is by politicians to describe something that some group of people (maybe deplorables or others) lack. I do know that it wasn't many days ago that a person on this site was called out for being priviledged and being not inclusive. That is a pretty new phenomena on this site and not everyone is going to enjoy seeing that.
  8. I saw this on drivethrurpg and it looked interesting. I read three reviews about it and two of them were complimentary but the last one was much less so. Anyone run or play it? Anyone with opinions?
  9. Some people use CoC rules for science fiction especially when it uses horror. Check out Cthulhu Rising or New Horizon (which is fan created).
  10. Cakebread & Walton produce some good stuff. I particullarly like Dark Streets (Make sure and get 2nd Edition as they sell both 2nd and 1st) -> https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/156813/Dark-Streets-2nd-Edition--Core-Rulebook
  11. Lots of people like being divisive. You’re not the first.
  12. It’s an expression but if you have to know, says me!
  13. You guys aren’t making friends arguing this on an RPG site.
  14. I don't have the Guidebook to London but The Golden Dawn is outstanding. The only problem is that print copies tend to be expensive these days...
  15. If you don’t mind modern, try Ladybug, Ladybug, Fly Away Home by Stygian Fox. There are two potential monsters and some cult members but I ran it for two groups and neither involved combat. Plus it’s one of the all time great CoC scenarios.
  16. Hey Sean, I am a big proponent of Magic World and have applied the rules (with help from the Big Gold Book) to all sorts of different genres. I also was the first that I am aware of that did a review of the book on RPG.net (And it had some mistakes in it). The problems with Magic World are really two-fold (in my view). The first are errors in the text, poor organization and weak layout. The second is a feeling that the setting material (which is good) is just bolted on and not particularly applicable to the rules. For example Magic Word differs from many rulesets by having outstanding naval rules yet the setting doesn't leverage any of those rules. Do you agree with this assesment and if so will you be addressing these issues in the next version?
  17. I don’t know any RPG stores but I feel for you. Vegas is brutal in July!
  18. Just remember the flattery in today’s game 🙂
  19. Thanks! I think I am going to find my PDF and do some catch up reading.
  20. Hey Atgxtg can you give an example about how the games lethal aspects were toned down? Maybe you mean the stun mechanic. Just trying to refresh my memory!
  21. It has been a while since I have read Superworld (Or what I am about to reccomend) but you might think about picking a more gritty and less 4 color setting that is a match for Superworld's inherent lethality. I recommend Fainting Goat Games' Extreme Earth: A Dsytopian Superhero Setting. You can get it here -> https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/144378/MM3e-EXTREME-EARTH-A-DYSTOPIAN-SUPERHERO-SETTING?src=hottest_filtered. What sets Extreme Earth apart is that is is designed to emulate bronze or iron age comics as opposed to silver or gold age comics. So think less of Superman or Wolverine and more of The Shadow, Watchmen and Batman. In these comics getting shot by a machine gun is likely to be lethal something easily modeled by Superworld. You can find some details about the bronze age of comics here -> https://davescorneroftheuniverse.wordpress.com/2014/11/10/what-is-comics-iron-age/ Woops - I forgot something. The version of Extreme Earth I linked to is designed for Mutants and Masterminds but there are several versions (Alas no Superworld option), you can find them on DriveThruRPG
  22. Unfortunately I don't have a spare copy or I would sell it to you. I will say that it is a thing of beauty. Alephtar, Pete and Loz really did a good job on it. Its one of the favorite books in my collection.
