  1. The saying about looking at the world through Rose tinted glasses....... ........which you may not have in the USA of course.
  2. Sounds like a plan to me. Out of curiousity does that work the other way up ? . So if i was in the underworld and magically flew up to the top , or the roof( the bottom of the surface world as it were ..) would I be able to summon Lodril from the other side. if that makes sense. The answer is of course is that a dream is just a dream and so it doesn't matter. Glorantha is of course real and so it does matter 😆
  3. I've always tended to think of spirit cults as being very localised affairs only contactable in in 1 single location. But does this have to be the case ? obviously if their worship is too widespread they start to drift across the line into minor deity status ( lets face it, it's all a bit blurred down at the small end of things ) But in a couple of locations maybe ? I could see that being possible.
  4. Many years ago I went to Wells in Norfolk, there's mud flats and salt marshes there. Trod on what i thought was solid ground went in upto the top of my calf and lost my deck shoe 😁
  5. The Earth cults book....lucky for me it's one of the earlier ones. And the shamanic/spirit cults book....which i think is destined to be one of the later ones.
  6. Our own physics apply all the time: if people fall off stuff they fall downwards and if they fall a long way they squish - there's rules for it. If people stay underwater they drown it's in the rules, the seas are salty, fire is hot and burns, snow is cold, gravity works people don't just float off into the air. Skills such as Treat Disease are a clear holdover from bacterial/viral models of infection - you can't "treat" a spirit. Rivers run downhill ( mostly ) if you go into the hot desert/wastes you dehydrate and die of thirst - there's rules for it see what I mean ?
  7. i could go for that. this is i think an example of importing real physics into Glorantha because itd be cool ( well, as cool as really hot things get i guess ) - volcano gods ! spears shooting lava ! without really working through the implications of why those things work in the real world, and won't work in a square lozenge which is hollow underneath and then having to retrofit the mythology to make it work. But I like Metcalphs explanation and that's how my glorantha is going work.
  8. Sorry, yes Lodril - what can i say it's late I'm tired. But my question still stands though.
  9. Here's the thing - where does the heat come from ? On earth it's molten lava, magma whatever drill straight down and you hit molten rock and the earths superheated core. Go straight down in Glorantha and ytou hit the underworld, hell etc. Which since Yelm is no longer down there is presumably as cold as it ever was. so where does all the volcanic acivity come from then ?
  10. What it says on the tin really. But also not just volcanoes per se , but also fumeroles, hot springs, geysers, tarpits, dormant volcanoes....
  11. A little while back I started a thread about Zoo https://basicroleplaying.org/topic/18307-some-questions-about-zoo-in-the-right-arm-islands/ So given that much of the RAI are tidal and you have mud flats, causeways so on and so forth. What's to stop the creatures of Zoo just swimming/wading/walking off the island and making a nuisance of themselves elswhere ?
  12. Also there's not a great deal of cinematic tension to be derived from a well run, happy society where nothing adverse ever happens.......at least not in the field of Sci Fi and fantasy. In other genres of course there's much more optimism. Every rom com ever shown has love overcoming all for a happy ending........
  13. Daughters of Darkness.......😆
  14. For the life of me i can't remember where i read it now - maybe something out of print and non canonical ? I have seen it quoted/ referenced here a couple of times. I'll see if i can track down those references, maybe that'll give me the source.
  15. Yeah, but how and why does slaughtering a valley full of healers fit in with all that ?
  16. reading in the rules Babs is described as earths holy avenger, the righter of wrongs, punisher of violators and wrong doers etc etc. but I also read ( can't remember where ) about her slaughtering a whole valley of healers..... which seems kind of contradictory given her alleged cosmic role ........ So what's the story ?
  17. Bill, you could have just said Orlanthi 😄
  18. So the only ways Earthrunning Girl would have Extension would be a) if she granted it herself b) she was a sub cult of a larger cult which had it - and could access it from that cult ?
  19. Pretty much the whole reason I was asking 😃 I'm torn between setting a fixed amount of time. eg; sunrise to sunset or something similiar. or allowing Earthrunning Girl to have Extension. Like you I was thinking of Earthrunning Girl being a granddaughter of Ernalda . and that combined with the earth focus of the paps meant that an Ernaldan extension would also apply. even more so if I treat ERG as an associate cult of Ernalda.
  20. Imagine an Ernalda cultist learns Extension , later wandering around Prax they go to the Paps and worship a spirit called Earthrunning Girl - a spirit cult, from her they learn the Rune Spell earthrunning ( allows the caster to run at full speed without tiredness for the duration of the spell as long as ; they're barefoot, they don't wade /swim through water ) Now could they use the extension spell they learned from Ernalda to extend the earthrunning spell ? or would they have to learn extension from Earthrunner Girl ( assuming she taught it..) ?
