  1. I may misunderstand your point here but there is a combat maneuver producing an intentional knockback of an opponent to disengage (p.195). Isn't it what you are after? Now, I am not enamored about the mechanics of it but it's there.
  2. My take on this is you choose between: You can take 3 SR but you are subject to attacks of opportunity and cannot defend Or You take the full round and get defensive actions as per disengaging (except that you just get back up, you don't disengage) However, I think the intent of the rule (RAW) is it takes 3 SR (standard rule) but you cannot defend while doing so.
  3. Chris edited his post from last week. Just making sure it is not missed!
  4. Congrats! I'll go check it out this week-end!
  5. Hi Vittoriano, unless you are a collector or a completist, you will not need BRP Rome if you already have Mythic Rome for Mythras. It is essentially the same content, the original being BRP Rome, that was later revised for Mythras.
  6. Avoiding math is not a goal in itself but we have just established that by knowing how SIZ works and doing a bit of primary level math, we can come up with a rule that is easy and consistent, may it be that the mount needs to be 16 SIZ bigger (for your suggested realistic ratio), or 10 SIZ bigger (for a more arbitrary but still believable and gamable result).
  7. Hmmm, it does ring a bell. It has the benefit of being easy and consistent - SIZ+10 implies that the mount needs to be 2.5 times as big (at least in weight).
  8. No, this is not how SIZ works. It's not linear as shown on page 151 of RQG. SIZ 12 (up to 75kg) would require a mount of 375kg, which is SIZ 31 SIZ 19 (up to 130kg) would require a mount of 650kg, which is SIZ 37. Now horses in RQG are too small at SIZ 26 (350 kg) which is more the size of a small pony. Depending on breed they should be in the 500kg to 800kg (SIZ 34 to 40).
  9. Can you please expand this? What is the source of this?
  10. I don't know if it is an ORC product or a Chaosium product but I am eager to see Sword and Barrow (aka Artesia RPG 2nd edition) from Mark Smylie. What he has shared looks promising so far. And something tells me the art will be good.
  11. This book is fantastic! And the physical book looks really good.
  12. I also just thought that the character creation of Pulp Cthulhu also have archetypes (and then occupations) which can feel quite pulpy or noir. Mythras/Destined would absolutely work. I think it would deliver a grittier experience and PC would be more... pulp, heroic? Not sure how to qualify it. LA and its talent would well I think. He the book has a noir mood.
  13. I agree with this. I would add that Sanity (renamed Mental Stress perhaps) is also adequate as is Fate Points. Regarding Traits, out of the 20 odd pairs, I would only select a limited number of pairs (from 4 to 8 pairs) focused on what you want to emphasise in your game. Passions and Traits are great to introduce character flaws. Pulp Cthulhu would actually work great. It has a lot of what the BRP guidelines are suggesting plus it has pulp talents. Sanity and Luck are in, and the major wound rule combined with total hit points offer high survivalability. You could add BPR's passions and Traits. Or not. Combat in CoC is also more theatre of the mind and more fluid than BRP.
  14. I like it, nice and simple. I would also allow it in combat once an opponent is somehow at a disadvantage (stun, incapacitated, just received a major wound)
  15. Oh, just a thought, if you want to watch Pulp Cthulhu fights, I am currently watching The Two-Headed Serpent actual play on the Chaoisum You Tube channel. I have just watched episode 26 in Iceland and there is some good fights in it. It does show how the participants use a theater of the monf approach in one they describe their intent and actions while using the CoC combat mechanics.
  16. It is very pulp to be able to knock-out an opponent in one blow. It is still not that easy. First, trying to knockout bigger individual will inflict a penalty die per Built difference (impossible the intended target is more than 2 Built higher). Big, tough opponents will be hard to K-O. Second, unless surprised, they could attempt to Dodge. If they are the same built (ot lower) and are surprised, they will be vulnerable to that maneuver. Again, very pulp. Having said that, when a rule in CoC or RQ is not to my liking, I often refer to BRP (or other BPR powered games). BRP imposes two conditions for a knockout attack: You must succeed a Hard roll You must roll your damage and the oppoment is knocked out only is the damage rolled would have caused a major wound. If so, the target is knocked out and they suffer 1 HP. If not, they suffer minimum rollable damage. If you want to make KO attacks more difficult you could introduce one or both conditions from BRP. You could also choose the middle ground and impose the second condition (compare the damage rolled) on a normal success but wave it on a Hard success or better.
  17. Kult Divinity Lost (in English) is also by Helmgast as far as I know.
  18. I am also interested by this. Euro bd are cool and the system feels familiar (quasi BRP) and light. The books look gorgeous.
  19. Read with Casting Time on page 91 of the BGB (in my previous post, my references were to UGE), if INT is used for determining initiative when casting spells, the spell would go at INT rank 15 minus Spell level 3, so Rank 12.
  20. Correct, INT% is only your base in the skill. Step 7 of character creation on page 11 tells who how many points (%) of skill you can distribute at character creation. You would want to distribute some to your spells. When you distribute skill points have the skill rating table in mind to avoid over allocating to a small number of skills (I am good at this, surely I have 90%!). A skill is considered at professional level when you get in the 50's % and expert at 75% or so. For normal, unstressful applications the skills are not necessarily rolled or could roll with an easy difficulty (skill is doubled). A basket weaver with a 55% Craft (Basket Weaving) skill would not necessarily roll to weave a basket and would be expected to craft baskets of professional quality - if if he wants to craft a masterpiece to gift a princess, better warm up the dice. Character creation steps are also conveniently summarized on page 15.
  21. Unfortunately, the Chaosium coupon and Bits and Mortar are not connected or transferable as far as I know. Maybe you can get Chaosium to refund you and remove the pdf from your library if you demonstrate you bought a hardcopy and got the pdf from B&M. That would truly be an exceptional gesture from Chaosium due to the situation but I would not expect it. It only costs an e-mail to ask. Call your Imaginaire and ask them if they partipate in B&M. In any case, I am sure they will order the books for you.
