  1. I like beer (ale or lager although in the winter I prefer an ale), chocolate and oranges plus I'm only an hour and a-half from Madison:)
  2. I've been listening to the MHI book series and found out that there's a Hero Games kickstarter but HERO, while I enjoy seems like it'd be a little on the slow side (I speak from my Champions days but do remember quicker lower-powered Fantasy HERO games so take my "slow" comment with a grain of salt). Being that MHI, in my opinion, seems to be modern day Cthulu with less insanity, couldn't I just run an MHI game with the BRP gold rulebook? Any good gun supplements or monographs you fine folks would suggest?
  3. Some off the cuff thoughts - as I get ready to go back to work from a week's vacation: - Necromancy will be relegated to NPC's - only Charter Magic and Free Will Adepts will be allowed - one of the pre-gens will be a free-willed magic being much like the Disreputable Dog - The magic system will be a combination of memorized charter symbols with some characters (whose Magic score is above "x") having the ability to make Charter combinations on-the-fly - Thinking of making cards with the symbols on them for easier use in play - From the books (I've only read two) we've got mention of Barbarians (of Navis I think), the Clayr, Belisaereans, Ancelstierrens, and I'm trying to think if any of the other countries/nations that are mentioned in the books to create some pre-gens from - I'll have to go buy the actual print copies because trying to spell from listening to Tim Curry (the narrator of the books) is hard indeed:) - Artifice or clockworks seem to be making a resurgence - perhaps a clockwork character (clockwork inhabited by a free-willed magic spirit) - I may throw in an Ancelstierre Scout - with appropriate clockwork weapons equivalent to his Ancelstierren rifle, grenade, etc. I'll throw together a primer on some of this stuff as a handout for the player's. I'll contact the publishers to see if I can distribute.
  4. I've been listening to alot of books these past few months (3 hour round trip commute 2-3 times a week) and I've just finished the second book Lirael, of the Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix. I'm working on a one-shot for an intro BRP game I'd like to run at GenCon (no scheduled event - just a meetup type game). Has anyone done any conversions, notes, etc on this series. The Runequest/BRP magic system fits extremely well within the Charter mage and free-willed magic concepts of the novel so except for putting some different names on the spells this one should be relatively straight forward. Any input from the forums on converting fluff into disadvantages would be awesome! Later, Greg Volz Natural Twenty Games www.naturaltwenty.com
  5. I'll be trying to get ahold of Dustin to start the process of using the Chaosium license and leverage Rodney's work on CF - my goal is to not recreate the rules set (the world doesn't need a whole lot more of those )
  6. I'm strongly looking at using the Classic Fantasy rules to produce an adventure but don't know if I want to end-up going the monograph route. I downloaded the OpenQuest developers kit and picked up the PDF on lulu.com. As a quick run-through OpenQuest seems to be based on RQ3/Mong Runequest vs. the current incarnation of BRP, i.e. I noticed the SZ stat and armour points for armour. I started working on some layout elements (see goblin below and some of my WIP cartography in the Classic Fantasy thread) but don't know if I should continue with OQ or just pitch a monograph? Any drawbacks to using OQ other than the obvious that it won't be potentially OOB compatible with BRP?
  7. As soon as I get out of my turkey coma (assisted by plenty of Scuttlebutt 10 Below - Beer Styles ) and good sweet German red wine ) and get done with the 2009 black hole of hours (a service desk implementation for a local college ) I'm thinking of doing something with OpenQuest as well...(more to come).
  8. As I continue to read and get my arms wrapped around BRP in general it's got me wanting to do a BRP/Classic Fantasy conversion for my as of yet unreleased FantasyCraft and Savage Worlds adventures. I'm putting the finishing touches on the cartography and redesigning the stat-block in BRP to a more gui-friendly format that'll fit on the adventure cards I'm making but man has it been fun so far! Cartography WIP below (tools used - CC3 by Profantasy and Adobe Elements 7.0 with a Bamboo graphics pad)
  9. sigh - I know... I was just bored and testing out some new backgrounds and layouts for stuff I'm trying to produce (it's always been easier for me to work with somebody else's content than actually create my own:) )
  10. From a constructive criticism standpoint I'd love to put together a primer section on the Monograph side for active fans who have a great idea but may not have the technical wherewithal to put it together (I'm just a dabbler and not a professional by any stretch of the imagination). Some basic layout templates including use of Styles (Title, heading 1, heading 2, normal) and stat blocks could work wonders. After emailing Rodney some tips* that I would have used I'd really like to see some minimum standard set for monographs regarding layout that wouldn't require alot of oversite but would produce usable documents. * see my re-edit of the Dwarf entry from the Classic Fantasy pdf - I performed it in about 5 minutes so it's not optimized for anything really (size, web viewing, publication, etc) http://www.naturaltwenty.com/downloads/basic_page_layout.pdf
  11. No worries! My Natural Twenty moniker predates the d20 license by a long shot!
  12. Rodney, I'd like to congratulate you on the release of this product. It really assists in helping a fledgling GM who is used to d20 but wants to have some guidance in running straightforward D&D-esque gaming. For those that didn't grok Runequest when it first came out Classic Fantasy bridges the gap in an excellent way. Kudos, Greg Volz Natural Twenty Games Natural Twenty Games
  13. Excellent - I'll be pitching Realms of Eldrath with an adventure/campaign line and supplements including: Campaign Teaser Dragon supplement 1-3 page adventure shorts sample layout Later, Greg Volz Natural Twenty Gaming
  14. Not that I'm going to run this with BRP (yet:) ) but FFG/Rakham released a AT-43 RPG supplement at GenCon so somebody else had the bright idea to take the multiple pages of fluff and produce an RPG for it. I've got no idea what system it used because it was sold out by the time I wandered over there (rat farts). Later, Greg Volz Natural Twenty Gaming
  15. Greetings, I'm really digging my copy of BRP and the processes are start to flow. I've got alot of stuff, i.e. fluff, ready and am starting to narrow down my system choices. BRP appears to be a really good fit - crunchy enough with alot of options that I could turn on/off with ease. I see the monographs and other things "in the works" on the front page of this site. How does one go about pitching an idea for a license? Later, Greg Volz Natural Twenty Gaming Natural Twenty Gaming
  16. I'm working on a magic book for a campaign world I've been pecking away at for years. It'll be my first use of the BRP rules but it's going to be a fun project. Later, Greg Volz Natural Twenty Gaming Natural Twenty Gaming
  17. Hello all, my name is Greg Volz and I've played RPG's since about 1981 or so...but suprisingly never played any BRP game...although I've owned RuneQuest Deluxe and ran it once. I just purchased the new BRP rulebook and am excited to create some monomythesque fantasy worlds and adventures. Thanks, Greg Volz Natural Twenty Gaming Natural Twenty Gaming
