  1. Would "I made it up" or "I did it in the fly" help? Normally, I don't stat up NPCs until I need them, and even then they are very rough. They might get APs, HPs, Damage Bonus, Rough Skills and that's about it. That makes things a lot easier to convert. The scenarios just run as they are, as a scenario is a scenario is a scenario. Where things need to be resolved, I just used RQ-style resolution rather than HQ-style resolution. Benefits were gained as skills, magic items or abilities. I tended to use Abilities as Keywords in RQ, so they could be used more flexibly. So, not much use really. Because the PCs were River Voices were PCs based in Prax, they didn't care about Sartar. They didn't worship Orlanth, so didn't care that he was dead. That meant that I had to adapt the scenarios, move the locations, use bits and pieces in different scenarios and basically butcher the campaign to help it fit into my own. I've wrapped everything else in spoilers, in case people haven't seen the scenario packs.
  2. Indeed it did. I loved the Cults of Prax/Terror long cult format, but also loved the sheer number of spells and information in the short Format of Gods of Glorantha. From what have seen, Gods and Goddesses of Glorantha has the breadth of Gods of Glorantha combined with the depth of Cults of Prax/Terror, so we should all be pleased. Until, of course, we get threads about "Why was this God/Goddess not included?", "Why does this cult no longer get this spell?", "Why has this spell been changed?", "This cult doesn't match fan versions" and so on.
  3. Technically, only maybe. Werecreatures are those born with the natural ability to change shape, or given the ability on a HeroQuest or Curse. Hsunchen use magic to change, Werecreatures have it as a natural ability. Some Werecreatures are born to Hsunchen, some are not. Those that are not born to Hsunchen have a difficult relationship with Hsunchen, as they are often seen as outsiders or as having stolen their powers.
  4. I'd never thought of that. He might have taken Chaos Features and become a Broo. Interesting, If so, I wonder what he was beforehand. I seem to remember that the Wild healer of the Rockwoods is not Illuminated, but I might be mistaken.
  5. Yes, I was going to make the same point. The Trollkin Curse made this a lot easier, especially with the multiple births. It might have meant that relatives of Karrg's Sons made themselves scarce at the end of every season. It could also mean that the requirement came in after the Trollkin Curse, perhaps to get rid of Trollkin?
  6. I am sure that the unfree and semifree can become free and rise in the ranks of society, after all, Orlanthi society is all about Change. However, there will be a certain amount of snobbery, at least in some quarters, that the person was born unfree or semifree. You get the situation where dirt-poor free people look down their noses at rich unfree-born or semifree-born people.
  7. As far as I know, the Cacodemon effect does not matter if you are Illuminated or not, it affects all Ogres who come nearer than a mile or two. In any case, even Illuminated Ogres have to eat.
  8. Foundchild, in his various guises, is a child abandoned or exposed.
  9. Are you referring to the previous post? Sorry, I am still 11 at heart.
  10. Quest completed, for the time being, with a new one added ...
  11. I thought that was aimed at me. Fair enough.
  12. Not in RQG, but I have run or taken part in hundreds for older versions of RQ and HQ. I find that HeroQuest Gifts should come from the HeroQuest itself, or be related to the HeroQuest. So, if you do the Hill of Gold as Zorak Zoran, you are likely to come away with some Fire Powers, perhaps your fire Runemagic doesn't cost double, or you might get a Fireblade or Firearrow spell. You won't get the ability to Fly from the Hill of Gold, unless you defeat an opponent who can fly and rip the ability from them. It really depends on the power levels of the participants. As a guide, I normally say that lay Members and Initiates might get a Spirit Magic spell, or perhaps a magical item of some kind. Initiates might get a new Runespell, or a Runespell that isn't available from their cult. Rune Levels might get special magic items and abilities. If you have Legend, then Legendary Abilities make excellent HeroQuest gifts. Spell Matrices are good items to hand out, especially powerful ones. Weapons with permanently enchanted spells are also good, for example a sword with Bladesharp 3 enchanted into the sword, so it does 1D8+4 damage and +15%, or a sword with permanent Truesword. Permanent magic is also useful, so someone with permanent Catseye or permanent Soul Sight. You have to be careful with this, as having permanent Shield means you can't use Spirit Block. Heroic Casting of magic, so a spirit Spell might only cost 1 MP, no matter what it's strength, so you could cast heal 6 by spending 1 MP. Your Magic Points act as rune Points for certain spells. Immunity to magic/effects, so someone might gain immune to Acid, Immune to Fear, Immune to a Jack o'Bear's Harmonise or Immune to a Wronged Husband's Wrath. Special magical items are good. have a look at Plunder or the Plunder thread for some examples.
  13. Watch this space. I am sure that the upcoming super-campaign will adjust things from old sources, such as King of Sartar. Doesn't bother me, though.
  14. Another one of Simon Bray's excellent woodcuts seems to be Minlister sitting on the toilet. I'll let someone else post the image, though. Fortunately, as one of the RuneQuest Simons, I sometimes get people emailing me and complimenting me on my great artwork, even though I can't draw a straight line with a ruler. I am always gracious and tell them they must have the wrong Simon, but secretly I know they don't.
  15. Kaarg's Sons have to eat a relative every season.
  16. One of my Rules About Glorantha is "Don't look too closely". Rules, when taken to the extreme, often break down. Tables used for one situation often break down when extrapolated or used in other situations. If things breaking down bothers people, then I'd say either handwave it or use a better table.
  17. Back then we had to write letters to people who edited fanzines or to Chaosium itself. They normally replied, though, which was good.
  18. I pretty much ran everything in the Gloranthan Adventurers supplements in my last RQ Campaign. I used everything, but just substituted RQ Stats for the HQ stats. It worked really well, although I didn't do things in the order they were in the books and messed about with the scenarios, so the PCs instigated the Boat Rise, for example.
  19. Spoilers.... Huh, I've added them in now, but can't put spoilers around your original quote.
  20. Pretty, shiny, wargod. Orlanth took his father's wife and pretty much rubbed it in his face. He is the not very dangerous Sun.
  21. 🔺Law Rune ⬛ Earth Rune ⬜ Dust Rune ⚪ Light Rune ⚫ Darkness Rune
  22. Occlusion is just a fancy Lunar word meaning 'when an Illuminated person behaves in a way that another Illuminate thinks is crazy'. So I'm sure it is true, but I'm not sure what it means. Or when an illuminate behaves badly, according to the ruling Illuminates. Illuminates in Dorastor, for example, probably see no problem with an occluded illuminate. In this case, the occlusion is behaving differently to what the Lunar Illuminates want you to behave.
  23. I think there are. For me, the Troll Arkati cults are normal troll cults worshipping Arkat, but with a close link to another cult and a link to Sorcery. So, Arkat Kingtroll is basically Arkat the Kaarg, Zorakarkat is Arkat the Zorak Zoran and Black Arkat is Arkat the Dark. A worshipper of Zorakarkat would have Zorak Zorani and Sorcery magic, a worshipper of Arkat Kingtroll might have some Kyger Litor magic and Sorcery and a worshipper of Black Arkat might have darkness Magic, control over Darkness creatures and Sorcery. Arkat Kingtroll and Black Arkat should have shamanistic practices. Priestesses of Arkat Kingtroll would be normal Kyger Litor Priestesses (Shamans in RQ3 but I haven't seen the RQG version) with Sorcery. Black Arkat worshippers might have Shamans who can access Subere, Xentha and the other Darkness Powers, as well as Sorcery tied to Darkness. One of the problems with Arkat is how much Sorcery does he get? In theory, an Arkati can learn any Sorcery spell, but in reality, how many are available through the Arkati cults? Do different Arkat Cults teach different Sorcery spells?
  24. This is exciting news indeed. I eagerly await the cascade of Gloranthan material that will result.
