  1. So.... where is the "unobtainium"? Or my favorite "reallyrarium"
  2. Let's not forget the emphasis on 'role playing'. If indeed BRP is 'deadlier' than DnD and the like, then clearly planning, skills/spells at AVOIDING combat wth 100s of 'mooks' is important.
  3. Rod, You may want to review the Paladin section of the new pdf...it reads a bit rough (at least in my copy) My best, Mark
  4. At the same time, a great deal of effort is spent on ergonomics and other such human factors issues. In many ways, the more modern something is (or newer versions of the same product), it should be easier to use. Take fore example, Microsoft Windows....ok, bad example. But look at various websites, the newer cars, MP3s, automatic transmission vs 'stick'... in many cases there's a bit of a learning curve, but frequently that is clobbered by the power of the newer capabilities. IMO, it sorta depends on many issues. Technical sophistication, safety features (conceivably, there could be some type of IDing so only 'friendly forces' use the weapons, and man-machine interface. I would think consumer products would be a bit more intuitive than products with a heavy military or technical bent. My best,
  5. A series of dirigible/blimb radio relays could get things across the planet fast...assuming you could send/receive the signal to them some way from under water. Rust is exactly right about VLF/ELF...additionally, I believe some environmentalists insisted ELF disturbed marine life (plot device? Evil marine mind control? You didn't read it here...) But your dolphin shape drone sounds cool....
  6. 8. Sorry, the US (or 'earth') military doesn't suck and does not seek violence...but we are incredibly competent at delivering violence. Nothing against James Cameron, CGI or the navi. Just don't want to waste my money on this prap. However, if someone comes up with a great system of magic for BRP (NOT sorcery), I'll buy the books... Mark
  7. it REALLY brings the feeling of early gaming. Very, Very tempted to run some of the ancient modules (Caverns of Thracia, Giant series, Temple of Elemental Evil)...you wrote a great game. Looking forward to purchasing other games in that series. My best, Mark
  8. Actually, I had expected a bit more of a seamless system. My bad. Having seen the 'grand unified enchantment system' of RQIII, I was rather expecting the same in BRP. Not the case. Does anyone use BRP magic in their games? Do you have house rules on enchantments? (Does Classic Fantasy have specific rules or just use the Permancy spell) Any Artificer rules? Thanks and Merry Christmas, Mark
  9. Thanks for reading. I just can't wrap my head around the BRP rules for magic equipment vs. sorcery equipment. Permanent magic equipment/enchantments like 'protection' vs. 'sorcerors armor'. 'Protection' requires 5x Pow sacrifice vs 'sorcerors armor' only needing 2x Pow. Hopefully, I am just not comprehending a simple issue. What/how do you do to deal with enchanting armor/weapons/wands/staves/rings/etc? Is there a link to errata or a better approach? My best and thank you all, Mark
  10. allow everyone an 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11 (if EDU is used) and assign as they want. For more flavor, allow them 3-6 extra points to apply whereever they want, as long as the starting characteristics don't exceed 21. That way, everyone has the same total pts. My best,
  11. I'd like to buy the PDF, but refuse to use PayPal....are you selling it thru' any vendors who allow credit card purchases? My best, Mark
  12. I've lived 2.5 years in Turkey recently ('96-98). They are a great people. Incredibly gregarious hosts and proud. The rich stay rich by connections and favors, the poor work harder than any I've seen...but stay poor. Corruption is endemic but a luxury the poor cannot afford. Caste often determines future social standing, but I met more than one 'Cinderella Story' where true love, talent and hard work resulted in higher social standing for men born into poor families. Despite my love and respect for Turks, they do return betrayal with brutal and righteous vengence. Not a simple opponent for the Maltese Order. Many honest, respectful adversaries can be gained by doing favors and showing mercy. Protecting family members of the Turkish nobility (or merchants or fishermen), shared struggles (against nature, ship-wrecked survival), honest trading could form the basis of at least one friendship among the Turks. Also, many of the conquered people retain their religion...to this day, more than one family of Christian Turks still speak Spanish as they were refugees from the Inquisition. Indeed, not a simple, one dimensional evil empire. They are NOT Arab, they are Turkish. The 'Turks' (as opposed to the conquered natives) are asiatic cousins of the Mongols/Huns.
  13. You could also modify (shrink/mitigate/ignore) the fumble range or widen/broaden the critical success range for the rat-men. Just a thought
