  1. Crap; I was really interested in running a BRP supers game.
  2. Cool, love the name Hornshwaggle. Can anyone do this Thursday or Friday night?
  3. Since I'm Mr. Question Pants lately, I thought I'd ask general opinions regarding BRP's ability to handle supers games, compared to other supers rpgs on the market. Many thanks again guys; you're helping me to develop a better picture of BRP.
  4. Thanks! I'd call it 'Black Roses - Midnight Setting'. The only issue is that this'll most likely just be a one-nighter, so a sub forum where people could post threads for OOC talk -as mine will be a voice-chat game- would be great.
  5. Actually guys, you've been very helpful, and have given me a lot to think about. I guess for me, my groups eventually made the shift to 3rd, then 3.5 -and some- to 4th edition D&D, so balance has always been an area of concern. Especially when players started using feat books, and other d20 game aids that threw everything out of wack. I've always been a 'hands off DM', in the sense that what I roll on a die is what I roll, and this has worked really well mainly because I've used purchased modules. With BRP, I'm hesitant to give the book to players to make a character without worrying about the munchkin factor, especially after reading the game balance reference in the BRP book. But that said, you guys have given me much to think about, so I'll give up on the purchased adventure idea for a time, and start writing my own stuff, which hopefully will tailor more to each specific character's needs.
  6. Once again, my question is simply one of degree. Many game systems do not specifically mention unbalanced situations with regard to character creation, and I personally do not have a problem with D&D levels of difference between characters. Soooo then, does BRP differ significanlty from other fantasy games in terms of balance? Specifically: does it differ significantly
  7. My issue wasn't whether magic users should ever be better at magic than fighters, or whether thieves should be able to climb walls better than clerics, it was regarding a specific mention in the book about powered and non-powered characters in the same campaign.
  8. For spell caster professions: Heroic: Your character will begin with six spells known at INT x 1, and the ability to spend skill points on these spells as above. The normal restrictions for having spells in memory apply—all of the spells known are available in the magician’s grimoire. For all other characters wishing to use some magic: In some settings, the gamemaster may allow non-magicians (characters who have not undertaken formal training in magic) to learn some magic spells. Such a character does not know how to create or read a spell book, does not know how to ready or dismiss spells, and simply knows the spells he or she was taught. The nonmagician character can know up to 1/4 his or her INT (rounded down) in spell levels. These spells each begin at an INT x 1 skill rating and take an amount of time equal to 30 minus your character's INT in weeks to learn. Non-magicians cannot research spells.
  9. I'll take a looksie. Yeah, it's odd that BRP seems to fit Midnight so well.
  10. Here's a spot for us to get things running. The lake had turned to blood this morning. In fact, all the lands surrounding her home of youth had somehow changed. And Sharney found herself waking in the nine hells... The girl was on her elbows in the small confines of the hut, trying very feebly, to get up from the bloodied floor. The nighthag stood on spindly legs above her, suddenly kicking viciously at the girl's face and shoulders. For almost a full day the hag had tortured Sharney, laughing and crying manically at the damage it did to the girl's youthful body, and delighting at the fear it envoked. "Uummm. Little witch wantss out mmm? Bloody the whore?" "Goddddsss please noo oo!" the young girl whimpered again. The monsterous woman-thing grabbed her hair, twisted her face around and spat into it. Holding her delicate body closely, it seemed to stare past the girl's now broken face and into her very soul, with its yellowed, calculating eyes. Taking a moment to smile at the pitifull sight, the hag groaned, barred black teeth, and began to knaw gratingly upon the girl's forehead and cheekbones. This game -in all likelihood- will be a one-nighter, and will be set in the Midnight campaing setting. For obvious reasons, it will be an 'adult-only' venue. Let's go with 1st level characters.
