  2. NERDLY.UK gives GLORANTHA: THE GODS WAR 4.5 stars out of 5, commenting on the "jaw-dropping" miniatures ("so large that the word 'miniature' becomes highly questionable"), and the entertaining asymmetrical nature of the gameplay. The review concludes that Sandy Petersen's game is "simply magical to play... A superb and hugely exciting addition to any collection". http://www.nerdly.co.uk/2019/10/15/glorantha-the-gods-war-board-game-review
  3. —MOB: Any tips for players tackling Alone Against the Frost? —GAVIN INGLIS: Wrap up warm. ALONE AGAINST THE FROST is available in PDF from Chaosium (print version to follow), and from DriveThru RPG. https://www.chaosium.com/blogqa-with-alone-against-the-frosts-gavin-inglis

  5. When I visited Somalia in 2011, I was surprised to learn that the region has the best mobile phone network in East Africa, and that the local goat-herders don't brand their animals any more: they write their mobile numbers on their animals with a Sharpie.
  6. Call of Cthulhu is certainly outselling D&D in Japan, and maybe in some other places, but it would be a real stretch to extend that to "across the planet". D&D is overwhelmingly the most popular tabletop RPG globally. Well, as you say, we do have Quickstarts (Call of Cthulhu, RuneQuest et al), and once you’ve learned to play one of these games, you've pretty much got what you need to play any of the others that use BRP as their core engine.
  7. Members of our Cult of Chaos gamemaster program can now download part two of Flotsam and Jetsam, our new Organised Play campaign for Call of Cthulhu. Flotsam and Jetsam is presented as four separate and loosely linked scenarios, released on a monthly basis. Each part is essentially stand-alone, offering one or more sessions of play. They do not require the same players to take part, although returning players will, of course, enjoy a deeper level of fun by the fact they are engaging with a wider story. If you'd like to take part, join the Cult of Chaos, Chaosium’s volunteer network of gamemasters.- it's free! More details about the campaign at the Flotsam & Jetsam FAQ. If you're in the Cult already, go to The Chaos Library subforum in our special password protected section for the Cult of Chaos at our BRP Central Forums to download. Four files are available to download: "Inheritance" (Part Two) plus, released previously: "The Star Brothers" (Part One) Flotsam and Jetsam Campaign Introduction Pregenerated Investigators nb If you're a Cult of Chaos member and have forgotten/lost/haven't received your password to access the special Cult of Chaos forum, message me here via BRP messaging (top right).
  8. Pookie of Reviews from R'lyeh has reviewed all five of our free #weareallus scenario releases honoring Greg Stafford: Helena Nash's The Rattling Wind (RuneQuest): "A rollicking good scenario... makes for a decent one-shot, but it really works as an interlude scenario, one that is easily inserted into an ongoing campaign. It nicely brings into play the recent history of Sartar and confirms in the adventurers’ minds the prejudices they have about the Lunar Empire." Ian Cooper's Highwall Inn (HeroQuest Glorantha): "...a really tense horror scenario that harries the player characters up against each other and pushing, pushing them into confrontations with each other before ratcheting up the horror again... Overall, Highwall Inn is an excellent demonstration or convention scenario for both HeroQuest Glorantha and Glorantha." John Wick's The Sword of Kings (7th Sea): "...everything necessary to provide a 7th Sea Game Master and her players with a session’s worth of swashbuckling and sorcery—more than mild peril, a dastardly villain, a McGuffin, and a mystery." Leigh Carr with Lynne Hardy's The Lightless Beacon (Call of Cthulhu): "An excellent demonstration scenario... offers pacy play, some solid roleplaying hooks, an unexpected twist upon “It’s behind you”, and a punchy scenario..." Greg Stafford's The Quest of the Red Blade (King Arthur Pendragon): "It is great to see this unpublished delight from the pen of Greg Stafford." All five adventures can be downloaded here: http://bit.ly/weareallus2019

The live audience loved it as much as we did, and we're looking forward to seeing the show up on YouTube soon!

  16. PAX Aus kicks off tomorrow, and this afternoon we took delivery of our 'Pinny Arcade' pins: "The Cloisonné of Cthulhu". They look amazing, brilliant work by artist Andrey Fetisov! These will be available from the Aetherworks/Chaosium booth in the Exhibit Hall (TT1210)
  17. Chaosium founder Greg Stafford passed away a year ago today, in his sweat lodge at his home in Arcata, CA. He died as he lived, on a spiritual quest of enlightenment. Today, one year on, company President Rick Meints expresses the sentiments we all feel at Chaosium: "Even though a year has passed since Greg went on his last shamanic journey, we often feel his absence. We want to thank all of the many, many people who have reached out to us via email, online, and in person, often at the conventions we attend, to let us know how much he impacted their lives. As we continue crafting our games it is hard not to think of him; each and every Chaosium game line was impacted by his creative touch. Greg's spirit remains with us, his words echo loudly, and we are honored to be the keepers of his legacy. As part of that we, the Chaosium, want to memorialize him with the first “We are all us” series of events – playing games, meeting new people, and experiencing something new." #weareallus - Play a Tabletop Game to Remember Greg Stafford To honor Greg Stafford's legacy and with his family's blessing, we encourage Chaosium fans and gamers in general to play a tabletop game from October 10 to October 31 in his remembrance and honour. Later today, we'll be releasing five FREE scenarios for all our major game systems you can play. The adventures are: The Lightless Beacon (Call of Cthulhu) by Leigh Carr with Lynne Hardy The Sword of Kings (7th Sea) by John Wick The Quest of the Red Blade (King Arthur Pendragon) by Greg Stafford The Rattling Wind (RuneQuest) by Helena Nash - a preview chapter of our forthcoming RQG release The Pegasus Plateau Highwall Inn (HeroQuest Glorantha) by Ian Cooper Or play any of Greg's games, or a game he influenced (that scope is **wide**) Or play any game at all - as Greg said in his last public speech at the 2018 ENnies, the gaming industry only exists because of your enthusiasm and support. We at Chaosium recognise that countless RPG fans are fans (including us!) because of Greg Stafford and what he achieved. Feel free to share an image of your game on social media or at BRP Central, with the hashtag #WeAreAllUs. Show the "Greg Rune" (aka the Sartar Rune) in your post - copy and print the image here, or from Redbubble (all "Greg Rune" merchandise is currently available at cost, with no artist margin). 19. Matt Ryan's map of "The Castle of the Kite", from KAP adventure THE QUEST OF THE RED BLADE, one of the five FREE scenarios we'll be releasing on Oct 10 to mark the first anniversary of Greg Stafford's passing. The scenario is by Greg Stafford himself. #weareallus

  21. In the Lunar Empire, the official designation is "priestess" regardless of the person's gender. As the military represents Moonson and the masculine aspect of the Empire, the priesthood represents the feminine side and the Goddess. Therefore, all military officers whether male or female are addressed as "Sir" and all priests are addressed as "Madam". c.f my scenario , which has the NPC The Lady Dushan (zealous, fanatical, deranged) - a great strapping bloke with a bushy black beard. Dushan is looking for the perfect Lunar recruit that could be a "standard all others could aspire to". http://rpgreview.net/mob/runemetaljacket.html (inspiration here from Nick Brooke)
  22. The stars will soon align! : Call of Cthulhu is officially coming to Roll20, the on line virtual tabletop for pen and paper RPGs. To mark the announcement, Roll20 have created their own version of The Lightless Beacon for Call of Cthulhu, one of the five FREE scenarios we're releasing as part of our #WeAreAllUs memorial to Chaosium founder Greg Stafford on October 10. If you'd like the Roll20 version, simply sign up for it at the link: https://roll20.net/call-of-cthulhu. Our Stream of Chaos team also recently played Call of Cthulhu on Roll20, as part of Roll20Con. Their scenario of choice was the one-shot Dead Light: something has been released out there amid the darkness, the howling wind, and lashing rain... You can watch that here:
  23. There's at least one fishing community further up the coast (described in Greg's The Sea Cave). But that would offer pretty slim pickings too, unless the Wolf Pirates were seeking to capture slaves. I suspect the reason why the Wolf Pirates demurred at Corflu is that they weighed up the meagre pickings they'd reap sacking the place against the consequences of unnecessarily antagonising the Lunars, who garrisoned the place as their territory. Bigger fish to fry.
  24. Cthulhu called, and they answered. Acquisitions Incorporated will undertake their most eldritch adventure yet at PAX Aus next weekend! Join Jerry Holkins, Arnie Niecamp, Anna Prosser, and Ryan Hartman, with Kris Straub in the Keeper's Chair on Saturday night at 6.30PM in the Main Theatre and on Twitch. Keeper Kris Straub has created slides introducing each of the Acquisitions Inc Investigators playing Call of Cthulhu live on stage at PAXAus this weekend: Meet Ryan Hartman's character Donald Bleeker, "the pork chop prince of Poughkeepsie"... Meet Anna Prosser's character Evelyn Virginia Margaret Madison, leading light of L.A Thander’s equine rights activist group and all-round goodie-two-shoes. Here's movie actor Charles Priest, Arnie Niecamp's character. Star of stage and screen, and "silent as God intended".... "Discretion our priority, propriety if there's time".... Here's hardened private eye O. Dran, Jerry Holkin''s character for the Acq Inc live play:
