  1. Some other people have suggested nerfing the RQG version of Extension Rune spell.  For example

    here https://basicroleplaying.org/topic/7699-rune-magic-in-rqg-limits-seem-to-be-off/

    and here https://basicroleplaying.org/topic/7767-multispell-will-render-protection-obsolete/

    it just seems to have some massive implications for the setting

    Specifically?

    Yeah but more specifically?

    My point isn't to say you're wrong.  Actually, to me the implications are the interesting part.  I am challenging you to do the work to be more specific about what you think the implications are, rather than just to say massive implications seem to exist.

  3. FWIW this article says what current canon is and what that means http://www.glorantha.com/docs/canon/

    although it's a few years old and so does not include the most recent publications.

  4. FYI to anyone, in addition to this thread some other options for finding online games or players are:

    I mean, I understand the principle but in this case knowing how much points you are "supposed" to use would be better than choosing whatever you want, otherwise player characters would probably end up either underpowered or overpowered.

    Changing rules unless you really understand them is just going to break the game most of the time.

    I think RQ is much less aggressively balanced than say D&D 5e, where point buy is standard (in practice IME, and even then, preferences vary and there isn't a firm default.)

    But if you read between the lines it seems evident that there's a guideline of 90ish.

  6. Element/beast/spirit sounds good to me since it gives them a menu of 5 things to choose from, not too complicated.

    Beast - physical stuff, animals, shapeshifting, bearish qualities

    Spirit - spiritual stuff, spirits, eccentric qualities

    Shapeshifting could be a full transform or it could be more partial, like "you can have breakout abilities to grow muscles or fur or claws"; your call.

  7. There are mystical practices all over the setting, like the Dayzatar cult, the Old Wind temple, and Sheng Seleris's path, so more than two main flavors, I'd say.  Analyzing them and saying whether they all involve illumination is up for interpretation.

    In Glorantha writing I think the particular term enlightenment is used more than anywhere else in Kralorelan and Vithelan mythology, in Revealed Mythologies.  Also, although I'm not sure that it refers to mysticism exactly, Ascended Master, the term for what used to be called a Malkioni saint, sounds like a way to say buddha without using that word.

  8. I wonder what you're supposed to do for NPC augments.  I don't really want to sit there behind my GM screen rolling out the mythopoetic battle within the soul of Trollkin #5.  Maybe you should just jack all NPC skills by 10% to represent their augments.

  9. Here's what it does have:

    * What Do Skill Percentages Mean? (Novice/Amateur/Pro/Veteran/Master), p. 63
    * More/Less Experienced Adventurers for characters who aren't the default starting age of 21, p. 25
    * Skills by culture, occupation, and cult on p. 60-79, which p. 25 says are for a 15-year-old
    * Step 7, Personal Skill Bonuses, on p. 79, which p. 25 says represent ages 15 to 21
    * Additional Experience, p. 81, for 10-year increments after age 21

    I don't think it states whether it thinks the chargen rules are only appropriate for heroic PCs or for everyone, but you can use p. 63 to check.

  10. I'm guessing the left and right-hand columns mentioned in the Casual Use of Runes section are in the Runes chapter, which we haven't seen (I haven't), showing behaviors that are (left) and aren't (right) in accord with each rune.  If so a page reference would helpful.  If not the section is confusing AF.  (It's somewhat confusing anyway because of what styopa said.)

  11. I do hope there's a fair bit more clarity on the whole iconic 'tatooing spells' thing.  After all these years I never quite got it.

    If you're talking about spirit spell focuses that are tattoos, here are my answers for RQ3.  And for HQ I suppose.

    Is that so it doesn't occupy INT but you have to use your MP?   It's so you don't lose the focus.  And what Richard S said, I guess.
    Is it an enchantment with its own MP?  No, those exist but are different.
    If it's skinned off someone, is it gone (or is it more mythically engraved on a person's being)?  Usually gone.
    Could someone else use the skin?  Usually not.
    What if it's on an arm that's lopped off?  Usually not.
    Do you have to be able to see it?  No.
    Could it be covered up and thus unusable if you wore a longsleeve turtleneck?  Yes covered, not unusable.
    Could one be on your back?  In your mouth?  Sole of your foot?  Yeah, but maybe only on the outside, unless having it in your mouth is thematically appropriate for the magic.
    Tattoos fade, do these eventually go away?  I suppose that might be possible, but you can just re-up the ink.
    How big do they have to be?  One inch.
    Does the person casting the spell somehow give the tattooist the spell to implant?  No.
    Is there a limit to how many tattoos one can have or where they can be?  No.

  12. It looks like the font on this forum changed in the last week or so.

    I usually use enlarged text.  With the old font, enlarged text would display in a kind of boldface if you enlarged it to a certain point, and that was a good thing.  With the new font, the text continues to use light lines when you enlarge it, so that it remains hard to read even though you've enlarged it.  That is difficult.

  13. The connotation of the term demigod is that their power is more innate than a magician's.

    They often have a divine parent.  You could say a demigod is someone who has a divine parent, or who is like that in some way.

    Another thing you could say is that a demigod is a minor god who is present in the world.

    Pentallion: "There needs to be a new term if Superhero is dropped."

    I think Glorantha works fine without identifying superheroes as a category, particularly with respect to distinctions like "as powerful as a demigod, but not a demigod".  Superheroes are so rare, practically unique, that it hardly matters.  If you're going to play a wargame or something where you're going to have some, and you need mechanics for them, and you need that to be balanced, well OK, then you might need to define the category.  But for the purpose of having a comprehensible cosmology I don't feel it's important.

  14. With a green bedsheet and cut cardboard tubes for the head and hands, even.

    A world exists in which the iconic cover could be reproduced with a 10 year old cosplayer and Greg Stafford in a slarge costume.  Just saying.

  15. They look good.  I've never been to Gen Con.  Do items like these get allowed under the "items resembling fantasy weapons may be allowed" part of their Costumes & Weapons policy?
