  2. Once upon a time, Greg described his views on how the approaches differed. You can see an overview of this in Arcane Lore p.15, but did appear in a number of other earlier sources that he drafted. The distinctions/approaches he provided in that work were: Liturgism; Venerative worship and sorcery magic Veneration is the method of worship. It is submission of the individual to the All, usually through the agency of social institutions whose leaders (sorcerers) can direct a portion of this veneration energy to perform magic. Animism; Ecstatic worship and shamanic magic Worship includes any ecstatic behavior that merges the person and world, such as trance inducing dances, deprivations, possessions, or other methods of merging with spirits or nature. Ecstasy is the personal experience of the Life Force inducing a transcendent event. Integration and rejection are the methodologies. Integration of the individual into the large world is experienced in the ecstatic moment, and subsequent training and experiences allow integration for longer periods of time and with larger entities. This results in magical actions performed by the person without effort. Integration of entities into the collective "us" is mutually rewarding, and internal adoption of disembodied entities is necessary to progress towards higher religious power and purpose, which is merger with Nature or one of the Great Spirits. In dealing with outsiders, whether "Them" people, spiritual, or demonic; interaction may be in the form of begging, bargaining, tricking, conquering, requesting, or surrendering. If successful, the natural entity or spirit merges with the shaman, granting its powers or its service. Theism; Sacrificial worship and divine magic Theism is the practice of making sacrifice of time, attention, and material goods to cooperate with deities. Deities (gods and goddesses) are entities that underlie the whole world. Worship of a god consists of sacrifices to it to strengthen it, and to guarantee (as much as possible) that it will deliver its magic when promised. Sacrifices include time, by participating in regular ceremonies; material goods, both as sacrifices and to support priesthood; and includes following customary behavior and evaluations of right and wrong. Cooperation with the Greater Powers is the primary method of Sacrifice. Following the actions established in Creation, people engage in a non-equal but reciprocal relationship with the immortal powers of the world.
  3. To shamans, most gods will be "villains". They want something from the shaman (their soul!) which the shaman doesn't usually want to give up. So if your shaman encounters them, the gods will be devious and dangerous, perhaps offering Faustian bargains.

  6. Although I can't tell for sure, it looks like there's a slight cutoff of text at the bottom of your text box. Assuming it is just that line, I'd suggest adjusting your "Choralinthor Bay..." paragraph to not indent so that you don't get the one word carryover at the end of the paragraph, and that would adjust your text up by one line. Alternately, remove the space/line before "Key". If there's any entries after Stormwalk Mountain that have been cut off, you might need to do both (or reduce the font size slightly of the index entries as another option). I do like the reformatted version with the single text box.
  7. Well, those with a dream of restoring the Maboder would need to find a new ally - maybe they'll petition Argrath, or the next Cinsina leader, or whoever else they can get to support them. Yes, that seems a likely path to me.
  8. Well, the Telmori are there, and no longer have to fear Jomes, so likely take to raiding the herds and flocks of surrounding clans rather heavily. There will be a few of the old Maboder clan around who now want to reclaim the lands for their own (but with what resources?). The Cinsina, Culbrea, and Torkani may all want to take control of some or all of the land, if they can only find a way to drive out the Telmori. And these squabbles/struggles will likely continue until a strong Prince of Sartar can find a way to resolve it.

Central to the Demivierge's strategy (and therefore the Warm Earth Alliance) is that she is the lover of the Warlord of Porthomeka, who after Broyan's death is probably the most important military figure remaining in Esrolia/Caladraland. The Demivierge is not just impeding Nochet "just because", but because she and Samastina are effectively dueling to become the "avatar" of Ernalda and Queen of Esrolia (remember that Samastina is only Queen of Nochet and North Esrolia, not all of Esrolia as of 1625). Each will use the tools and allies they can to win that struggle (while trying to avoid devolving into Civil War again). Likely the Demivierge and the Warlord focus on conquering the Vinavale, maybe Thonble, and controlling South Esrolia. They'll encourage the Trader Princes as that should reestablish wealth for them. She might well accept refugees from Nolos and Pasos fleeing the Seshnelan conquests. Would she consider allying Harrek against Samastina? Or maybe she'll encourage the Grazers to raid Samastina's lands?

How I interpret it: "pilot script" = campaign or scenario outline "proposed series of films/episodes" = adventure hooks or scenario starters "cast of dozens" + "enigmatic lists of statistics" = NPC encounter writeups All set in the context of an envisioned "modern" document looking at events in Glorantha much as Andrew Logan Montgomery included "modern" works in the Six Seasons in Sartar series.
  11. Kind of a side topic for this thread, but no "pitch" per se. However, the rough, rubble-strewn grounds above the Dark Warrens may well serve for impromptu matches at night when the humans have gone to sleep. Basically figure that the Night Jumpers effectively became a small mercenary band after Tarkalor's Wars, and are one of the bands that made up Broyan's army to drive out the Lunars.
  12. For those raiders, use the Shadow Plateau trolls! There's 41,000 of them and they've got a great defensible position to swarm out of including giant beetles and trollkin, and they've got a troll hero (Obash Broosmasher) to lead them (or just send out brutal Zorak Zoran warbands). They might well go all the way to the Troll Woods (do some trading there) and then make their way back. The Volsaxi tribes won't know whether they are Kitori or not, but they may well react to incursions against the Kitori. (And, yes, you can find the cruel shamans there, horrible darkness rites, fungal caverns, and a desolate, black sand desert atop the plateau. Now, if you do raid into Kitori lands, they will use ghosts, darkness elementals, demon shadows, giant web-spinning spiders, huge beetles, etc. to defend their territory. They're just not going to spend time provoking the nearby humans.
  13. There is no Argan Rex subcult. The tribe is led by a Shadowlord, but no details currently on how they are chosen.
  14. Wasps are either mean/vicious or parasitizing. They are nobody's friends (as the Bestiary notes, they are large hunting predators). However, I don't see any explicit notes as to their interactions with others in the Bestiary or the Guide so perhaps other works in time will give us different details.
  15. The Wasp Riders are not part of the Kitori, and I think are generally considered neutral at best, and often foes. (I picture the wasps raiding and attacking Kitori beetle larva for food.)
  16. The tribe is about 1/2 human, 1/2 troll. Clans are generally organized within the species, but they do share settlements. (My current campaign largely consists of Kitori and is a mixed party, largely led by an Argan Argar merchant.) They will raid occasionally, as will other nearby tribes, but less so since their defeat 2 generations ago by Tarkalor of Sartar. They raise beetles (parts of which are sold to humans) and tend spiders (whose silk is also sold), and maintain a trade with the Shadow Plateau despite harassment by the Volsaxi tribes through whose lands they cross.

  20. May depend on how deceased dwarfs are recycled. If they recycle body AND soul into the World Machine, then I don't think any "ancestors" would remain (if you could even determine such origin beside being cast within the appropriate cauldron or mold).

Bear in mind that Vingkot was the first in memory since the days of Rastagar's Betrayal during the Storm Age to bear the Sword and Helm (Rastagar being a direct descendant and last of the Kodigvari). If the Volsaxi clans could have readily gained them, you'd have record of it. (Maybe there's some claim to someone having them during the Adjustment Wars at the end of the 2nd Age, but if so I don't recall the reference.)
  22. Broyan specifically claimed descent from Kodig, son of Vingkot, who was granted or won the Sword and Helm. Those relics belonged to the descendants of Kodig who ruled in the Holy Country. So, yes, marrying Orgorvale might be one way to restart a Vingkotling line, but you'd likely only have a claim to ruling the Orgorvaltes tribe unless you did more. (For instance, in the Verenmars Saga which I worked on with Greg years ago, Verenmars goes into Alkoth and is able to gain the Blood of Vingkot to help establish him as ruler of Saird, where the Berennethtelli once dwelt.)

As I recall he was camped outside of Twotop just a bit north of Whitewall, so hadn't really begun the march, but was likely gathering the tribes north of Whitewall, and likely invoking various Orlanthi rituals in preparation. Perhaps he invoked some ritual such as the Sandals of Darkness that might allow his army to go undetected by the Lunars, and unknowingly triggered an attack by Darkness because of his oathbreaking?
  24. Or Bagog. The scorpion folk claim it was Bagog who did the biting. (And if you follow some of the progression from Greg's older writings to Cults of Terror, the myth of the Footprint gradually evolves and Krarsht and Bagog become two chaos deities vs one.) Hence even among the tribes of Chaos there will be disputes, and Primal Chaos, of course, claims the First Blood for its own too. 👹
  25. Since there was no obvious Lunar presence, it's all rumor and innuendo. The Crimson Bat, the Crater Makers, Jar-eel - all clear signs of Lunars leading it. Hell demons, well that could be anyone with the power to summon such and a desire to get back at Broyan. Plus it was nighttime, so difficult to tell anyone. But rumors are largely going to place the blame on: the Lunars (they previously summoned Cwim to defeat Argrath's attempted invasion of Dragon Pass, so clearly capable of this attack too); the trolls of the Shadow Plateau (the Kitori are a small tribe, but there are a lot of trolls in the Shadowlands and they've got their own hero, Obash Broosmasher, and a desire to reclaim the rule over all the Holy Country); Gagix the Scorpion Queen (she's a chaos hero, and getting rid of Broyan is a good start to her campaign to overrun all of Heortland). Of course, Broyan led a rather ragtag army of disparate groups including old companions, Wolf Pirates, and others - I'm sure some will blame others, if nothing else for failure to guard the perimeters, alert Broyan, etc., and those mistrusting opinions will be present over the subsequent seasons.
