  1. The Art Packs have paid about a quarter of the cost of the new cover for Armies & Enemies. Am starting to gather together material to give the regional military history of Peloria in much the same style as for Seshnela, Fronela, and Ralios in Men of the West. I have a number of sources that weren't used in Armies & Enemies because the page count was becoming excessive. And, today, I can mention that Armies and Enemies won the 2019 Greg Stafford Memorial Award for Gloranthan Fandom for which I am very honored and grateful. The award has been sitting on a shelf with my Glorantha collection for a while. https://www.chaosium.com/bloggreg-stafford-memorial-award-for-gloranthan-fandom-presented-for-2019-and-2020/ I am in the process of moving so my shelves are not very tidy, but here is the award sitting with some of my books.
  2. Third and final Art Pack for now. Permission is granted to purchasers to use these illustrations in Jonstown Compendium publications (with a credit to the artist), and to GMs and players solely for their own use in handouts and character sheets, but not for wider publication. The labels can be removed, and the images reduced in size, but no other changes can be made for publication without permission. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/331719/Art-Pack-3-Hsunchen-Nomads-and-Beasts?src=newest_community?affiliate_id=2310005
  3. Lunar Art Pack uploaded. Includes some of my earliest sketches, which I may rework. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/331652/Art-Pack-2-Lunars?src=newest_community?affiliate_id=2310005
  4. Because of questions raised on various fora, the following has been added to clarify usage: Permission is granted to purchasers to use these illustrations in Jonstown Compendium publications (with a credit to the artist), and to GMs and players solely for their own use in handouts and character sheets, but not for wider publication. The labels can be removed but no other changes can be made for publication without permission.
  5. Not a problem. However, this picture isn't set in Dragon Pass, but in eastern Safelster in Ralios where the culture is very different. The 'warrior' is Meime, Tournament King of Kustria, wearing his very expensive dwarven-made iron armor, complete with the helmet, described in the Guide (and based on a tournament helmet of Henry VIII), and his wife, Ingye, Queen of Galin. The Safelstran cities, even the Solar ones, tend to have a far more hedonistic culture than you'd find in Dragon Pass or Peloria (except for Glamour).
  6. My intent is that the art can be used in Jonstown Compendium titles (with a credit), and by GMs and Players solely for their own use, such as character sheets and handouts, but not for wider publication. There's been discussion about creating such resources for JC authors in a forum for the last few days so I decided to create something, get it out there, and see what bugs crawl out. The lessons learned so far are: Clearer usage and licensing. Include a zipped file. A zipped file has been included and tomorrow I will add a clearer description of allowed usage. The art must not be altered without permission (the labels can be removed) and cannot be used on websites or anywhere else without my express permission. Andrew Taylor has requested and had created colored versions of some of the sketches, with permission. I may create a Lunar Art Pack.
  7. Only in a Jonstown Compedium title.
  8. I have put together an Art Pack for Jonstown Compendium authors and GMs and players. This is an experiment. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/331406/Art-Pack-1--Orlanthi?src=newest_community?affiliate_id=2310005
  9. Only one person is wearing armor in the Men of the West picture. The Queen is wearing an expensive costume that displays the tradition of the Solar Safelstrans, especially the eastern Galanin: lots of gold. The intent was to show that not all Solar cultures are as austere and puritanical as the Dara Happans. Perhaps that failed.
  10. We are in negotiations. The rough outline is magnificent.
  11. More sketching. I suspect the upper version is most likely to give the composition I want.
  12. The aqueduct may be within the upper tier? This would make the upper pathway a cover for the water channel. Some Roman aqueducts were apparently covered, at least for part of their flow.
  13. The Guide says: Deeming that no ordinary path was of enough quality for the caravan of the Moon’s granddaughter, this young princess assembled engineers and builders to make a proper path for her to travel upon. This road still exists today, called simply the Daughter’s Road. Paved over with crushed stone, it is twelve wagons wide I believe you are thinking of the Crystal Bridge?
  14. One thing that will be tricky, is that the Daughter's Road lower tier is also very wide.
  15. Trying to resolve a composition - if I can't sketch it, I can't describe it. And, embarrassingly, in these doodles, I forgot that the Daughter's Road is a two tier viaduct...
  16. Which may happen, but the art isn't cheap. Mark's Artesia Known World RPG is available on DriveThru.
  17. Very easy. I gave him PDFs of the books, a few bits of art direction, and then minor comments on the roughs. I started following his Patreon account where he is sharing chapters in his latest novel about Artesia's brother and material for his next Artesia Known World sourcebook. Mark is a long term Glorantha fan. It is, yes. See these for his latest publications: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/313461/BLACK-HEART-Part-One-PDF-and-EPUB?affiliate_id=2310005 https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/319673/BLACK-HEART-Part-Two-PDF-and-EPUB?affiliate_id=2310005 https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/312027/Historiae-Mundi-A-History-of-the-Known-World?affiliate_id=2310005
  18. Men of the West now has a color wrap-around cover by Mark Smylie. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/325525/Men-of-the-West?src=hottest_filtered?affiliate_id=2310005
  19. Not canonical, but there's a fair bit about Polaris, his cult, and how it fits into the regimental system in: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/296535/The-Armies-and-Enemies-of-Dragon-Pass?affiliate_id=2310005
  20. Jajagappa The Jajalarings, largely subsumed into the surrounding Orlanthi population, worship Jajagappa as the god of death. He carries a net he uses to catch any souls that go astray after death, or which have no divine protection, or otherwise are his prey. They are hunted down and shredded, devoured and reshaped to be another hound in his pack. Jajagappa has the ability to fight the souls of the powerful dead, and drag even great magicians to their final Death. Jajagappa is the sire of Rowdril, the father of war hounds, and for whom the breed is named. Durbaddath The Lion God of Dara Happa; conquered by Yelm who then made a place of honor for the conquered deity to serve the royalty of Dara Happa. During the Darkness he loyally defended the people of his lord. He served Emperor Urvairinus so faithfully that the Lion bore the scepter of imperial power, and his golden sons led regiments. After the death of the emperor, Durbaddath rebelled, and his sons and their offspring were treated as wild animals and hunted nearly to extinction throughout Peloria. The Dara Happans claim he is also the father of their god of slaves, Ergesh, and that his human descendants are their rightful thralls. As Father Lion he is worshiped in Oraya and by the Zarkosings of Jarst and Garsting, and by the Balazarings. These people do not recognize the Dara Happan story of Durbaddath and Ergesh, though their ancestors were often enslaved by Dara Happan raiders. For them, Durbaddath is a warrior god, and the defender of his people. The Pelandans recognize that he is the hunter aspect of their own Karndasal (who is not Basmol).
  21. I have considered this but there are many ships in 'Men of the West'. I have pretty much exhausted the material I have on Wolf Pirates!
  22. At present I am attempting to think up a new project.
  23. This slim illustrated booklet explores the use of the mighty war elephants of Fonrit, one of the regions of the southern continent of Pamaltela. It explores the diet and training of the feared shovel-tusker elephants, and their use on campaign and when deployed in battle. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/328937/War-Elephants-of-Fonrit?affiliate_id=2310005
