  1. The previous experience rules for barbarians and mercenaries were simpler and didn’t involve going into debt, which makes me wonder why the rules for apprentices were so different.
  2. Note that the hardcover of RQ2 is actually cheaper than the softcover, due to it being in stock rather than pod.
  3. Another approach would be to subtract the number rolled (if successful) from the perception check. Or, to preserve the lower is better trend, the difference between the successful roll and the skill level. .
  4. For those interested, here’s another first edition on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2499334.m570.l1313&_nkw=prince+valiant&_sacat=2543
  5. I regret to have to inform you that the reprint has already occurred a few years ago, and the game is again out of print. Here’s a link to a first edition copy (paperback with black-and-white art) for sale on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/305278402694?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20230811123856%26meid%3Dac320aff45584fcdb0f50aec71fd37d1%26pid%3D101770%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26itm%3D305278402694%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4375194%26algv%3DRecentlyViewedItemsV2&_trksid=p4375194.c101770.m146925&_trkparms=parentrq%3Ab257755918c0a8ce63713f02ffff69de|pageci%3A8be61dc8-a5c8-11ee-a4da-b69de52edb96|iid%3A1|vlpname%3Avlp_homepage
  6. I’ll soon be starting a game of Questworlds for Doctor Who, and I don’t think that powering up is appropriate for that setting. Would awarding extra Story Points be a viable alternative?
  7. I agree with this part, but I believe that the minimum levels,, if used at all, should be set low enough so that a beginning character can meet them even for professional magician types. Questworlds is the kind of game where you should be able to create an Istari Wizard and a potato farmer at the outset without any trouble. Another approach might be to allow more breakout abilities for the full time magician types.
  8. If anyone is interested, there is a copy of the 1st edition of the Prince Valiant rpg on ebay with a starting bid of $40.00. https://www.ebay.com/itm/325901269169?hash=item4be13ab8b1:g:IcMAAOSwnZllYkaw&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwPJGPwq0y1N7%2BFC0UoHF7g0QKszDHj%2FejX%2FXdEuBZ0V%2BFcsqTIP5MLErUJUwZQthgtm15jDQ%2FqpgorquU1RRuvILlRKDuZQGBDAgms3jnTiyO1h5Zkp9Xbg3yag8PJXAcOXy18YLu9D1Ew7b%2FVOYcs3QmLm%2BIk2OWhZqyQtpx7XiobVYrRGaYvenP9Byc61SpmovUvUtPqv6WSLdMOj1ejZ36cMvVZrjti1HL2ZbMsAJ7X1SGdOouJ4Hy00%2FTxP0NA%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR-T8-auEYw
  9. If you can find a copy, Anaxial’s Roster has stats for various Gloranthan creatures. Here’s a link to some on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p4432023.m570.l1313&_nkw=anaxial's+roster&_sacat=0
  10. Trolls are not dirty and slovenly! It’s humans who are overly tidy and prissy.
  11. I am disappointed that the charts are not broken down by gender, which surely must play a major factor in which cult one belongs to.
  12. I suppose my real issue is the Pixies access to magic, but then I guess they can learn appropriate spirit magic from Aldrya Shamans. Which raises the question of how they pay for it. I can’t imagine Aldryami regularly using money, except with outsiders.
  13. Just what is the status of Pixies in the Aldrya cult? The RuneQuest Glorantha Bestiary places them in the Elder Sister subcult, while Cults of Gorantha the Earth Goddesses states that they rarely progress beyond the Children of the Forest subcult. The former seems to grant them too much magic(Animate War Tree), while the latter seems to grant them too little(no access to Befuddle). Perhaps there’s a Younger Sister subcult?
  14. That being the case, what distinguishes the Henotheists from the other Malkioni sects?
  15. If true, this is the sort of thing that makes me wish that HeroQuest/QuestWolds had been more financially successful. Though even that system sometimes resorted to unnecessarily mechanically differentiating the magic types IMO.
  16. At the risk of derailing this thread, since when have Seshnelans worshiped gods except for the Invisible God? I thought they were monotheists.
  17. There are previous experience rules in Appendix H on pages 118-122. The apprentice rules are pretty convoluted, but the mercenary and barbarian rules, which presumably are what most PCs are interested in are fairly simple.
  18. Land of Ninja (great supplement, lousy title) replaced this with “spirit communication” on pages 34-35.
  19. One thing I liked was how elemental sizes gradually increased, with each extra cubic meter adding one extra characteristic level per cubic meter. Earth eementals, for instance, would gain 1d6+6 STR, 1d6 POW, and 2d6+6 per cubIc meter. That strikes me as much more logical than just dividing them into small, medium and large categories.
  20. Page 38, Do Gardeners who started in the Great Sister subcult retain ability to use the Summon small and medium Earth Elementals they got from Ernalda?
  21. pages 118-119: It is unclear whether the positions of Shaman and Chieftain correspond with initiate, god-talker, priest or Rune Lord. This seems to a problem with cults which have non-standard postions.
  22. Hm. It seems I missed the rule on page 146 about usng augments to increase the chances on the resistance table. That does change things.
