  1. I believe he's referring to page 8 under Movement, the last sentence of which reads, "An adventurer engaged in melee cannot move until disengaged." I am also confused as to whether a point of MOV equals 1m or 3m. That section seems to suggest it is 1m while in combat and 3m when not engaged, but that doesn't jibe with what you quote later where folks in combat can move half their movement.
  2. This reminds me of Aquelarre (a Spanish BRP branch). You get two actions per turn. You can attack twice, attack and defend (parry, dodge, or block), or use two defenses. Some things are extended actions (setting your spear against a charge, charging, feinting, evading missile fire) require both actions. Bows and slings require an action to load, so are effectively extended actions.
  3. Has anyone compiled a list of what gods and spirit societies are detailed in which HeroQuest books?
  4. I once had a map of the world shower curtain that I loved. I'd totally buy a map of Glorantha shower curtain.
  5. I admit that I was a bit disappointed that there were no Chaosium RQ events on the schedule, just the seminars. I was really looking forward to trying out the new version.
  6. I'll second this. The main thing I'm interested in is the discrepancy between the rules and the example for extended contests (PC RP totals tracked per contest or summed). The consensus seems to be that the example is incorrect, but I'd like the official ruling.
  7. I just wrote a setting for Promethean: the Created during the Thirty Years War. It's got a lot of potential.
  8. My wife was thinking about playing a Duck, which I think is a fine stand-in for Rocket.
  9. My son has his heart set on playing an Aldryami (Groot looms large in the picture). Are there any good resources for Aldryami for HeroQuest? I'm specifically wondering on how I should structure their spirit societies.
  10. Yeah, I was wondering if that was the case. Thanks a lot, folks. You're input has been invaluable. I can't wait to dive into the setting with my son.
  11. Oh, I've also noted that the books are significantly more expensive on Amazon than on the Moon Design site. Is this just the benefits of going straight to the source?
  12. I've decided to just bite the bullet and get Heroquest Glorantha since the narrativist approach seems to match the setting better. I'm reading all these great stories of heroes and gods and don't want to get bogged down in simulationist rules. I would like to run a game for my ten year old son set in Pavis. If folks will indulge me just a little bit more, I have one more question. Is the Sartar book necessary to use Pavis? The blurb on the back of the book says so but not the description on the Moon Design site (unless I'm just blind). I'm assuming that Sartar has a lot on Orlanthi and their cults which are relevant to, but aren't repeated in, Pavis. Is that correct? Or is there more that's needed?
  13. What differences are there between the setting materials in the HeroQuest Pavis book and the Glorantha Classics Pavis & Big Rubble? Would folks recommend one over the other, if I am strictly in it for the setting details?
  14. I will very likely buy it, but I'm in the situation where I have one group who likes narrative games but isn't into fantasy (modern or historical games only) and one that is only into crunchy systems and plays mostly fantasy games. It sounds like it lends itself to HeroQuest's approach really well, but I'm unlikely to sell a HeroQuest Glorantha campaign to either group, sadly. Thanks for the input. It is what I suspected, but I wanted to make sure I was right before dropping a bunch of cash.
  15. I only discovered Glorantha a little over a month ago and has been burning my way through the Guide. The gaming group I have that is interested in fantasy games is more of a RuneQuest crowd than HeroQuest, so I'll probably wait to run it until the new version comes out next year. In the meantime, I shall devour Glorantha material and plan the campaign. That being said, would people recommend the Sartar and/or Pavis supplements, even though I don't intend to use the HeroQuest rules? I get the impression they have a lot more detail for those two locations than the Guide is able to provide, but is it enough to balance any game mechanics that I won't use? I am also open to other recommendations. :-)
  16. I think you are looking for the "Guide to Glorantha", which is the behemoth, system-less setting reference available through Moon Design (currently PDF only, but they will be doing hard copies again some time next year). I just picked it up and am about a 1/3 of the way through the 800 pages and it is good stuff.
  17. Are there any plans to repair the broken bookmarks in the Guide to Glorantha PDFs? The books are fantastic (nearly 300 pages into my cover-to-cover read-through), but getting to a section quickly is really hampered by the muddled bookmarks.
