  1. Did you make any spreadsheets for building characters ?

When you do conversions of characters and adventures how do you translate AD&D levels ? Increased % to hit, increased skill%, etc

Are you thinking about doing an intro adventure ?

I was looking at some old Classic adventure modules and noticing the similarities from one to the other.

    1) Need a small village as a base of operations.

    2) Some ruins nearby

    3) Some threat to the village from evil that has set up in the ruins.

    4) A reason or reward for cleaning out the ruins.

    5) Some hidden evil force or organization that is behind the problems so that the adventure gets more complicated.

    6) A bigger town or city nearby that becomes the new base of operations for the pcs investigating the bigger evil.

    7) A bigger dungeon or ruins nearby the city for prolonged adventures.

It is interesting how often this template has been used.

If you had a village and a city fleshed out you could easily convert a Classic adventure to fit the Realm very easily.

Another thing that is helpful is the number of free adventures you can download and convert.

WotC ( lots of 3.5 edition adventures and the complete 4e first adventure), Necromancer, paizo to list a few all have free adventures that can be downloaded.

If I had any time, I would flesh out a village and a nearby town/city and then do some conversion docs that would list all the characters and monsters and magic items converted to Classic Fantasy. All the DM would have to do is download the original adventure and use the conversion doc to run it. Of course that isn't a commercial enterprise.

  2. I wouldn't rush to file a dispute with VISA. My understanding is that it takes some time to resolve. I'm pretty sure that Chaosium would just reverse it for you and it wouldn't take nearly as long. Sorry to hear of your bad experience. My previous experience with them is that they are understanding when it comes to resolving shipping problems.

  3. Hi Rod

I've been reading through the book when I have spare and am getting through the spell section. As I read through it, i have been having these "that's cool" moments. It is neat to think of the different ways spells could be used and the effects they could produce in the gaming world ( especially using a spell like Permanancy). Of course when you design a whole new magic system from scratch ( even if it is modeled on what has come before ), it has also raised lots of questions about how different spells interact. I know that a GM would have the last say in how things work, but I would be interested in your take on things.

So is this the correct thread to post questions ?

BTW I think this is one of the best monographs for BRP so far, and I have liked most of them. It really makes me want to pull out a few of my pdfs of classic D&D adventures and give them a try, since we never did play them back in the day. We had already converted to RQ. I am thinking of the Hommlet, ToEE, Slavers, Giants, Demonweb pits adventure cycle (bought them before WotC quit selling pdfs).

I guess I'll have to make some 3D dungeon tiles and walls and get out the old minis and see if I can convince some of the board gamers to give it a try.

  4. Did you see this thread.

    Cheers,

    Nick

    Thanks Nick,

I did see some of the thread via link from another section of the forum but I hadn't read the whole thing.

I hadn't realized how much material in the form of pdfs was on the athas.org site so I thought I'd mention it, especially since WotC stopped selling any pdfs. You never know when internet sites might vanish, so it might be worth a look and a little space on the hard drive. It is a conversion so it doesn't include a lot of the setting material, but it is something that could be used to inspire a BRP treatment. Of course there is always ebay.

Since it is a setting that has always piqued my interest I thought I would try to stir up another discussion.

    Cheers

    Warren

  5. Has anyone done anything BRP/RQ in the WOTC setting The Dark Sun.

WoTC stopped selling pdfs of all their products recently but on athas.org there are official PDFs of 3.5 edition D&D rules and adventures. It might be worth a look.

It always seemed to be an interesting setting: emphasis on survival in a harsh world.
