  1. New to Fantasy Grounds? Never tried Fantasy Grounds? This is your best chance to play with the best Virtual Table Top software - and try it for free! GM's - your Full Licenses will upgrade to Ultimate Licenses for the duration of the Con!

Virtual Con is a community driven (unofficial) long weekend of Virtual Gaming using the Fantasy Grounds Virtual Table Top (VTT). Fantasy Grounds allows you to play tabletop role playing games (such as Dungeons and Dragons 3.5e and 4e, Pathfinder, Castles & Crusades, Savage Worlds, Call of Cthulhu plus many others) over the Internet with people from around the world.

This is our third online convention.

Last con the eminent writer and publisher of BRP gaming goodness Paolo Guccione ran a session of BRP entitled "The Quest for El Dorado" which was great fun. Hoping that a GM will step up for some CoC or BRP gaming again.

  2. This plays up the science fiction survival horror theme with a liberal spritzing of HPL, and counts most of the films you mentioned as thematic touchstones:The Void.

I'm sure Eclipse Phase has come up in the conversation before: it is a great take on the transhuman setting. Eclipse Phase.

What about Traveller 2300 ? There are conversion docs in the downloads section.

  3. Thanks to Rosen and the other players for the cool session of BRP at the convention. Reminds me of why I have always enjoyed BRP: intuitive and fast resolution of gaming situations. Lots of fun too. Sorry to the commander, who had to dodge my misplaced musket shot, and then died a glorious death saving us from the vampire.

  4. Another BRP session by Rosen has been added to the schedule:

A group of Spanish conquistadores are on a quest for the fabled El Dorado. Can they survive the perils of the mesoamerican jungle? And what kind of natural – or not so natural – guardians will be watching over the treasures of the Mayan kings?

Please leave a comment if you wish to reschedule the game for another time window on sunday.

  5. The community of FG virtual table top users is running another convention this weekend May 31 to June 2.

    Check out the website: fg-con.com

Of course it is free and is a global convention so there are games in all different time zones.

So far one Cthulhu Invictus session scheduled. (Plus a bunch of Pf, Role master,Savage Worlds, etc)

  6. I have used the rollable tables for Hit Locations and it works well.

Simple macros can be setup for Skills using Roll20 Abilities (useful if you use their 'chat' system to log what's said/done in game)

Opposed rolls and secret rolls are also possible with simple macros.

The new API system will allow more complex scripts but I will have to learn more javascript before I can do any BRP specific ones.

It will easily make roll20 that much more customizable. It should be noted that the API access is a Mentor

subscriber feature. As long as the GM is a mentor the customized scripts should work.

  7. Not sure if the last sentence was intentional sarcasm?

I'm quite certain it isn't sarcasm. Rosen is just saying that Maptools excels at mapping functions so it would be ideal for projecting maps onto a table.

I think you miss the point. When running games with VTT AND face-to-face players it does make sense to show both groups the same info.

With Maptools you could project the map onto a table top as well as show the players in a different location the same map. You could do the same with Roll20.

  8. The point is that their marketplace is extremely obscure, and in some cases questionable, in how it works, and definitely not designed to sell supplements. For one thing, it DOES NOT allow me to give away anything for free. Why?

I would guess that they don't want the marketplace to be flooded with free products. I think they have changed the way it works so that you can sell full adventure products but there are only a couple of them up there now. It is still a VERY new company/site and I expect there will be plenty of changes as they learn the best methods to proceed. They only just recently revised the whole forum system.

  9. Speaking of that, Alephtar Games is now evaluating the idea of launching its own tool/community for "lightweight" online gaming based on hangouts (while continuing to support Fantasy Grounds for heavy-duty gaming). Would anyone be interested in trying, or possibly kickstarting, such a tool?

I personally would rather that Alephtar Games puts all of their energy into making resource material for BRP. Roll20 seems to be a decent platform and there are lots of users. I would rather that you worked with them to improve the BRP experience and possibly sell BRP material on their marketplace. We need some custom dice rolling functions for d100. Creating another platform might fragment the user base and get less exposure for BRP to the general gaming audience. All IMHO.

  10. Hey Chorpa!

Nice post, thanks for sharing. I am running a Legend campaign in the World of Greyhawk and I am very interested to know how you are planning on creating the cults for the large pantheon? My campaign revolves around 4 rogues at the moment but there may be a requirement for a more standard fantasy party in the future.

The Greyhawk pantheon is also very large, especially when one includes the various demi human pantheons.

    Any advice is highly appreciated!

  11. Well rollable tables are live on Roll20 now, if you are a supporter or subscriber. So that should help. I think they need a new dice function for handling a BRP success roll.
