  1. "The wheel of fate", it looks gorgeous! The art is fantastic! Who is that agimori lady? :-P
  2. Well, Ian Thompson's fanzines are "Masks of Pavis", "Legacy of Pavis", "Shadows of Pavis" and "Beyond Pavis". I'm using "Beyond Pavis" right now, as it contains scenarios to complement the "Borderlands" campaign. Some of them are sold out, but others can still be found at the Tradetalk site: http://www.tradetalk.de/english/ Look in the "Sales" section.
  3. I'm running a Prax/Pavis campaign and we are currently in Raus grantlands. #Possible spoilers ahead, please be warned:# After clearing the Stone Tower, Raus charged the PCs with taking care of the lands around the Stone Tower in his name, in order to look out for any attacks of Muriah's broos (after an all-out broo attack against Raus, all the settlements on the east bank of the river were forsaken, as it was considered too dangerous to stay there). I'm also using Ian Thompson's fanzines, so we are currently with the "Smugglers!" scenario. However, something unexpected happened and will lead to an interesting situation. You see, I wanted the PCs to be aware that while they are under Raus orders, the world keeps moving without them, so I started describing how increasingly often they see ships carrying loads of Lunar troops down to Corflu (to later tell them that Karse has been taken). As they are all anti-Lunar PCs, they were outraged that they hadn't done anything to stop this. So once when they were crossing the Zola Fel I described another Lunar vessel sailing down the river. But this time, they told me they hid among the vegetation. Then the newts of Five Eyes Caves started attacking the ship. Then the PCs saw their chance and with some lucky rolls and a shaman with "Control Undine", they managed to capsize the ship as it was crossing the Easy Ford and drowned all the troops within!!! Now the Lunars in Corflu want to massacre all the newts in Five Eyes Caves with some troops and the help of Raus' mercenaries. There are just two little problems: 1) Krang the dragon and 2) three of the PCs are River Voices, and the river has asked them to stand in between and solve the conflict with harmony. What will they do? What will Krang the dragon do? Who will get his treasure? Will the PCs side with the Lunars or with the newts? Any suggestions as to how to handle this are very welcome!
  4. 5. Combat becomes quicker 6. Combat becomes more realistic, as PCs can't realistically know exactly where all their friends are in the middle of combat (I guess actual combat is very different from moving figures on a board).
  5. I'm going to play with HQ, because this GM is a fan of the system. I just want to play that campaign, I don't care which system we use actually!
  6. No, I usually place the paper map on the middle of the table for all to see. I usually keep a paper behing the screen where I take quick notes of all enemies (who is lacking an arm, for instance, who is fleeing, who's gone back to heal, etc.) But you can try your method. Trial and error until you're happy! :-D
  7. I'm afraid it is, yes. But you could use it as a transition to "more imagination and less board game". Start with this, and progressively take out elements from it till everything or most of it happens in your mind. But of course, if your group is more comfortable with what you suggest, go for it. Make your players like the game. :-) I usually sketch out the environments in pencil, I draw some circles detailing where the enemies are, then I ask the players where they are and draw their initials of their characters on the makeshift map. When combat is joined, I redraw the PCs initials and the enemies appropriately, and from there on, I remind the players that is where they are in combat MORE OR LESS, maybe in a 10 meter radius from the original "melee start", as combat means constantly moving.
  8. I have the Sartar book, but not the HQ2 book. I wanted to own it even though I'm not going to read the scenarios because another GM is going to run them and I'm going to play them. Conversion must be simple, because the book does not include any stats, only the background and the events of the story.
  9. True, but in my experience, it works somehow if you tell the player who's receiving the charge that if s/he does not dodge or parry, s/he will suffer weapon damage PLUS the damage modifier of the mount. A lance and a rhino can mean: 1D10+1+2D6 or even 1D10+1+3D6. Now make them pray the charger does not get a critical... ;-)
  10. I'd prefer to see any scenarios-reprint than any rules reprint. I think we have too many different rulebooks and too few scenarios! Most of all, I'd like to see NEW scenarios printed! :-D Another issue completely different: How is the cult of Irripi Ontor described in "Cults of Prax"? I'm looking for a description of this cult (as an independent cult, apart from the Seven Mothers), but I can find none...
  11. This is nice and simple, thank you. I may use it in my games! A further twist: what if you are targeting a rhino and its rider? The rhino is huge, so I'd say there's a 3/4 chance of hitting the rhino. Maybe in this case I'd just roll 1D100: under 75%, the rhino is hit, over 25%, the rider. Something else: what if you target the rhino rider, but miss? There is a chance that you miss the rider but hit the rhino, right?
  12. What I have always applied in my RQ3 games: After the attack of the rider and his mount, if the on-foot warrior is still standing, she can try to counterattack, but with a penalty of -25% due to the speed of the mount. You could decide that if the on-foot warrior dodges the attack, she can't counterattack, only if she successfully parries. Also, if her weapon is not long enough, the on-foot warrior can only damage the rider's legs or abdomen (or only the legs if the rider rides a high llama!). (And then, there are the pike rules). I'd be interested to know how other GMs handle this. And also how do they handle it when an archer fires against a mounted warrior and they don't specify if they're targeting the rider or the mount, but rather the whole mass.
  13. If, once melee combat is engaged, some player complains that he needs to know EXACTLY where his/her PC is, tell him or her that combat does not mean standing and maintaining the same exact position, as in a RPG videogame (Neverwinter Nights, for instance). That's not real. In a combat, every combatant is constantly moving away or around the point where the melee was originally engaged (think of movies), so if they want to know where exactly they are, in order to know who gets first to some point or if they are close enough to a friend to heal him/her, just roll a dice to determine randomly how far they are, or make them roll against their highest combat skill to determine that.
  14. ***SPOILER ALERT*** . . . . Ok I'd forgotten that about Fisher, but how does Cobb get into Limbo? Can you access limbo if you're not dead?
  15. I liked it a lot but ***SPOILER ALERT*** I didn't understand how do they save Fisher and Saito after they're shot.
  16. What about Ralzakark using the spirit combat rules in your website? Would a shaman be able to destroy him by throwing 3 ghosts at him and some Dispel Magic, while a warrior beats him to death? (I like your rules)
  17. Thanks for the link to Gloranthan Army. It must have been a fun game. How was it run? What rules were used? Who won?
  18. >(in which case it shouldn't use an action, otherwise if you give me a couple of bound spirits i can defeat the cacodemon!) Hi, I'm using the houserules for spirit combat that Simon posted on his huge website and I allow for a concentration roll (INTx3) for the characters to do anything else than spirit combat when attacked by a spirit. I guess for shamans I'd say a INTx5 concentration roll, as they're more used to it. However, Icebrand's mention of the cacodemon makes me wonder, what can this demon really do (with Simon's rules) against spirits??? Can he fight them and still face wordly oponents? What's his skill in Spirit Combat???
  19. Rosen and Gianni: thanks a lot for the report! Strangely, reports of this con are very rare to find! I'm interested in that Pavis map that appears in the photos. What was the game about? Could you elaborate on this, please? Any news about the upcoming Pavis releases (Mongoose and Moon Design's)?
