I wound up DMing for my high school buddies after being introduced to D&D by my older brother. We mainly created dungeon crawls and we used D&D and Arduin Grimore. While in high school, I started my own dice company -- now defunct. After college, I stopped playing. Years later, I played in a LARP and found a new world of character-based story telling. Now I'm more interested in investigative games and no hack-and-slash. :-)

I play a variety of systems and have stolen and borrowed ideas from many to generate my own game systems. The latest home grown system I ran was "Ghost in the Shell" (based on the TV anime series) that gave humans the same number of dice for specific skill areas (3d6) and they were allowed to augment their dice pools with additional equipment or cyberization (add additional dice or upgrade the 1d6 to 1d8, 1d10, etc). Combat (cyber or physical) knocked down your related dice pools, so your skills and equipment are your hit points. It worked really well with the theme and setting.

I attended Clarion West and Odyssey, two well-known genre-focused writer workshops. I was called the plot-doctor by my classmates and gained a reputation for fixing their plots. So, I'm good at generating story arcs that are consistent and make sense.

I'm currently GMing games at various conventions, online, and a regular face-to-face group.

I've also been play testing various CoC and ToC scenarios for publication.

  1. I basically leveled with the Players and told them out of Character that they have the choice of taking the NPC or not. I told them the campaign works both ways and it was up to them. They chose to take the NPC with them. I did not tell them that the NPC would be helpful or not helpful, I didn't want to color their choice because in some CoC games, some NPCs are villains in disguise. At one point, I also told them about using the "item" vs red lining. They opted to use the "item". Not all NPCs wanted to do the quick travel, so there was some role playing and convincing (social skill rolls)
