  1. Sounds like a lot of fun. Maybe someday I'll get to go.
  2. Yes, it's been my experience that the auto-calc character sheets need to be opened and edited in the latest version of Adobe Reader. As you enter numbers for the skills and characteristics, the half and fifth values auto-calculate. I just wish Adobe would make it easier to then export and save the character sheet as a "flat" non-calc PDF for easier viewing with any PDF viewing app.
  3. I love F. Paul Wilson's Repairman Jack series. It also has an undertone of Mythos. I'd love to see a game book that more clearly defined the strangeness from that universe.
  4. Sorry to hear that, Spence. As one of the co-hosts of The Miskatonic University Podcast, I can attest that publishing transcripts is not possible, since ours is not a scripted show. Should you discover time in your day to listen to entertaining audio media while you're relaxing or doing some other task that doesn't require your full attention, then I hope you rediscover the fun of RPG podcasts.
  5. I really want to write a Cthulhu Icarus scenario now!!!
  6. That is all fantastic and solid advice. I would also add a couple of other resources, the Miskatonic University Podcast, and the Good Friends of Jackson Elias Podcast. Each of these excellent podcasts discus ways to run your Call of Cthulhu games. If I don't mind saying so myself, each podcast is hosted by a roundtable of guys with years of experience running Call of Cthulhu. They're witty, sarcastic, and imaginative. I think fans of the Call of Cthulhu RPG greatly enjoy both podcasts.
  7. Hi guys! I'm very excited to be going to Gary Con next month. This will be my first time to attend the con. I will be running a brand new Call of Cthulhu demo scenario called What's in the Cellar? This new demo scenario was announced in a recent Chaosium email titled, "Running Call of Cthulhu at spring gaming conventions", dated February 3, 2017. I wrote this new demo scenario, so I'm very excited to run it at Gary Con. I've also authored several Call of Cthulhu adventures for Goodman Games; they have a licence to publish Call of Cthulhu adventures under the Age of Cthulhu banner. I dug around in my office here at home, and I found three extra copies of some of my Age of Cthulhu work. My hope is to sell them for some walk-around money at Gary Con. The books for sale are: SOLD One copy of Age of Cthulhu: Transatlantic Terror; I'm selling this for $5.00. SOLD SOLD One copy of Age of Cthulhu: The Timeless Sands of India; I'm selling this for $13.00. SOLD SOLD And, one copy of Age of Cthulhu: Starfall Over the Plateau of Leng; I'm selling this for $25.00. SOLD If it's okay with the buyer, I'd like to sign each book that is sold and to draw a Cthulhu head sketch inside each book, (but for Transatlantic Terror it will have to be on a separate sheet of paper since that pamphlet does not have any blank end pages). I'm also assuming that each book would be purchased by a different buyer, so each book will be shipped in a Priority Mail envelope. If memory serves, I believe the shipping is a flat rate on that type of envelope, something like five bucks and change, so I plan to charge a flat $6.00 for shipping for the two bigger books. For whoever buys Transatlantic Terror, we can talk about how you'd like me to ship it. If you're interested in buying any of these books, please feel free to contact me by email at: jonhook@gmail.com
  8. Fun ending. A large group of players were traipsing around in the sugar maple forest looking for a missing companion, (who had been snatched into the Dreamlands), and they began to hear some buzzing all around them. They got scared and decided to leave and head back to the farm house. They got turned around in the forest, so it took them longer to get back than they anticipated; they also exited the forest in an area that they didn't intend to. It's now a couple of hours past sunset, and it's very dark outside. They need to cross a field of very tall grass to get to the farm house. As they do so, they hear more buzzing, and a white fog begins to form before them. They freak out, and start to run around the fog. An athletic character was first to get a face-full of the Mi-Go spore gun, and he was out for the count. The other characters got his body, but they come face-to-face with two other Mi-Go. My horrific dice rolling ensured that they were able to escape with their lives. They even saved the jock... dang it. The players and I had a great time! Great scenario. I'm reading up on the next chapter now.
  9. Hi guys. My group is limited on how often we can meet and play, so we are still in Month One, but we're really close to the end of that chapter. The party is split into three groups. One group just rescued the captured girl in the cabin in the woods, and they successfully took on two Men of Leng with clubs! The CoC 7e combat went very smoothly. One group took it upon themselves to drive out of Cobb's Corners to find a town with a working phone to call Miskatonic University to tattle on Blaine, (I downed the phone lines due to the storm, but they were determined to find a working phone). And the last group went into the sugar maple forest to look for their friends, (who were rescuing the girl at the time). The two guys in the forest had already encountered John, half fused in the boulder, but as they were traipsing through the forest, they came face-to-face with the moon beast. Both investigators freaked out and lost their minds. One was forced to flee, and he did an about-face and started running back towards the clearing where John is located. The other got a mania for pointed and sharp objects, (he became hyper-focused on a knife he was carrying), but the player stated that he was also going to flee, but in a different direction as to not return to the clearing. He was hoping to get back to the house they are staying in. Well, the moon beast can have two spells, Keeper's choice. So I opted for one of the spells to be a Contact Nightgaunt spell, (I modeled it off of a Contact Ghoul spell). So my knife-focused investigator was running headlong through the forest, and as he was about to pass in-between a pair of sugar maples, a nightgaunt stepped into his way. We rolled opposed Fighting (Brawl) skills, and I successfully grappled the investigator. A brief struggle ensued, and after several failed attempts by the investigator, my nightgaunt launched into the sky, flew to the clearing, and did a power dive through the dream gate. Scratch one more investigator. I'm recording my games, and eventually I'll be posting them in the Miskatonic University Podcast Live Play feed. I am loving this campaign!
  10. I'm definitely printing one via Lulu... but it would have been nice if my local game store had ordered some of the Free RPG Day goodies so I could have picked one up for free. I ran a short demo adventure I wrote on Free RPG Day at the game store. The folks working at the store were super nice, despite the failure to have the goodies. Anyone visiting the Kansas City area must check out TableTop Games and Hobby. Like a bone-head, I forgot my dice, so I attempted to buy a small set of dice I cherry-picked out of a couple of dice buckets, and they gave me the dice and a Dr. Pepper for free because I was running a game on Free RPG Day. Totally classy and excellent people both work at and patronize TableTop in Overland Park, Kansas.
  11. I wish I was going to Gen Con. I'd be all over this.
  12. Hi MOB. What is "double credit reward" on the Chaosium site? I am running a demo of Call of Cthulhu at a participating game store on Free RPG Day, but I have no idea how to register or log that with the Cult of Chaos.

    Thanks for your time,

    Jon

Hi Jon - it means you get 6 dollars Chaosium credit instead of the usual 3. Drop Dustin a line at dustin@chaosium.com and he'll outline what you need to do to qualify.

  13. Thanks Sasori. Dead Light is also a great scenario, but it is more of a four hour convention scenario. I think anyone would be hard-pressed to run all of Dead Light in one hour, but you could engineer it so that one particular aspect of Dead Light is run as a one hour encounter.
  14. Hey AlbertG, yes, I love that idea. The main focus for the scenario as written is to touch on some investigation and some combat in a one hour game slot, assuming that it is simply a short demo. But, I think it could easily be expanded into something more robust. I like the idea of finding actual evidence that could be used in Arthur's defense. That's a great idea. I'm going to chew on that and see what I can come up with. Thanks man.
  15. I just wrote something that I think can be run as a one hour demo of Call of Cthulhu. Feel free to use this, if you'd like. Whats in the Cellar.pdf
  16. Has anyone created a larger map of the areas surrounding Cobb's Corners? I'd be interested to definitively know the location of Broken Hill, (the Mi-Go's lair), the clearing that the remains of John Jefferey are in, the location of the lonely cabin, and the location of the Maclearan farmhouse in relationship to Cobb's Corners. Also, because half of my player characters are more interested in participating in the geological surveying, I'd love to have a list of preferred dig sites that Robert Blaine has already indicated to Joe Harlow for him to take the diggers/surveyors to. Does anyone else feel that a map like this would be helpful?
  17. Great idea. Each Age of Cthulhu adventure does provide five pre-generated investigators for Keepers to more expediently get a game started, (in the pretend world where friends gather for an impromptu game of Call of Cthulhu), but they usually come in handy for convention games. But, I like your idea of providing separate NPC pre-gens. The module has a few NPCs outlined throughout the book, but making them separate is a good idea. I'll see if I can get them into one of the stretch goals.
