Forgotten as a weapon, not as a place

I saw woomeras used competitively at the Yuendumu Sports Day in the early 1980s, at Yuendumu, NT, Australia. The range increase was impressive, and skilled users did not suffer much in the way of accuracy.

    Hi Sid.

Let's put it this way...  You know how the Starters Set has the Battle of Dangerford as a solo adventure?  Not every battle is going to be laid out with that amount of detail.  The Battle Roll stands in for either the PCs as Commanders (Leading NPCs) or the PCs as warriors serving under a Commander when GMs don't have time to produce that level of detail.

I personally also allow Battle to act as an "Evaluate Battlefield" skill.  You get bonuses for certain spells, successful recon reports, good maps, etc.  Riding the field yourself is a good idea and will net you a bonus too, depending on the time spent doing so.  This can be used to tell the weakest point in a defensive structure, or how an enemy is likely to line up based on terrain and where and what the crucial terrain features of a coming battle will be.

The Defending Apple Lane Battle roll is because the players are leading NPCs and need to give orders that need to be obeyed.  The players are commanders leading NPCs in this situation.

I was surprised to see this thread had been necroed. Its so old, I was working at the office when i posted it. Ive had some time on my hands since and have  done a bit of reading. Definately square with the Battle skill now.

WTF?  Nathem the pre-gen does have Survival 30%, but not sure where that came from, as neither Hunters nor Odalya offer that as a skill.  Was this erratisized?

The base rate for Survival skill is 15%. He gets another 5% by virtue of being from Old Tarsh. He gets 0% extra from his Knowledge skills bonus, although that could benefit that way with a different build.  The other 10% must be from skill points assigned during chargen.

Its not too hard to have a serviceable Survival skill for a starting PC, but I agree that no bouns for the Hunter occupation seems like an oversight.

If the pair of you can't behave back there we'll turn this thread around back to 2019 and there will be no GaGoG for anyone.

An awful truth here. Never read much into Xoth, how is it?

The setting is very much like the Hyborian Age, with fewer anachronisms, and more sand.

Its been tied to various rulesets over the last 12 years or so (d20, Legend, Pathdinder 1e, D&D 5e, and others) so there are releases in all them, and some in multiple systems; The Spider God's Bride is in both d20 and Legend, for example. For d100, Mongoose Legend has at least 3 titles.

Also take a look at the World of Xoth, written by Morten Braten.

It's an excellent take on Sword and Sorcery genre written for Legend and translates well to Mythras.

Here's a link to the first book, 'The Spider God's Bride', that's piracy-free.

I know Morten had talks with Chaosium about the possibilty of bringing the World of Xoth to the RQ ruleset. Alas, it was not to be, which is a great pity. But S&S is full of great pities.

On the Swords and Sorcery front I used to publish The Savage North for OpenQuest.

Very keen to see a new edition of this.

And curious to know more about Xyserdon. Anything to share?

I've had feedback that my online character creation spreadsheet is particularly helpful

You are too modest, Mr. Hibbs. My group might never have got past character creation without those sheets.  Now we use them as the default for creating and maintaining Adventurers, only adding an additional tally sheet for skill improvements from each adventure and season. Its now just a long and fiddly  process, rather than a very long and very fiddly process. Cant quite get get values for Spirit Combat Damage though.

'What is it with the new RQG and the obsession with female breasts. I thought the hobby had grown up. Funny to see that it actually has in contemporary D&D, but in the game that is hailed as more sophisticated every other picture of the female form is now topless.'

That, Comarade, is a bourgeois indulgence that serves only to distract the proletariat from the truth; agrarian rent capitalism is baked into the RQG rules. "Nobles live by the work of others." And yet not a word in the mainstream media...

You dont need an Orlanthi to know which way the wind blows.
