  1. Hi Nick, I use Adobe Acrobat X and a bit of underlying Javascript (supported by Acrobat). Nothing fancy, but it takes some time to get it all lined up correctly. It's fun, though.
  2. thanks mate! Just keeping it up-to-date, and since my shiny color laser printer wants to see some action, I decided to make it more appealing. LOL. Will send it over to Chaosium, maybe Charlie updates the old version as well. But it seem they are still busy with their website anyway.
  3. Hi folks, here's my updated version of the editable BRP character sheet. - you can add a picture in the top right hand of the sheet - roll Character Attributes - change the initial Skill values according to Fantasy/historic, Modern or Future (according to BRP rules) - have all needed tables one click away during character creation - Auto calculates the Characteristic rolls - Auto calculates Skill Category Bonus - EXPORT your character so you can import it later and edit it again with normal Acrobat Reader - print the character sheet with a colorful font for easy reading - now features a nicer font for easy reading - nicely prints at 115% on an A4 paper sheet with nearly no wasted white margin Please use Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the file, otherwise the Javascript routines in it will not work correctly or at all. Download it from the Downloads section here! Download Have fun!

  5. Make your own clarification, write it down and have eveybody read it. Done. The rule should suit the setting, though. Remember BRP is a toolbox and you have to tinker it a bit to your needs. Personally I would judge only beings with a minimum of intelligence and sense of harm can be kept at bay with a pole arm. Also only beings in front of the pole arm user can be kept at bay. You need space to maneuver to do so. So yes, you can keep some at bay, but not all if you are being swarmed. In the case of Zombies, you cannot use this maneuver as the zombies will just swarm you. This might give you a free attack on one, but then you are in close combat with the rest.

A short explanation how the different firearms rules in BRP work. Was part of an discussion that is no longer available.
  7. As I read it el_octogono is correct with his suggestion that only intelligent beings trying to avoid harm are outlined in the rule. Simply let the player have a free attack at one Zombie, then swarm & grapple him afterwards. Works just fine If you want it a bit more pulpy (pun intended) feel free to use my updated Minion rules from below. Also, have a look how all the firearms in BRP work. I have uploaded an explanation with examples here.
  8. should be back once Chaosium gets their webstore up&running again. Unfortunately it is not available @RPGnow.com
  9. Thanks guys, I'm doing my best and your words are motivating. Maybe a publisher is interested - i'm open for everything. I guess there is always the option to ask Chaosium to do it as a monograph. They seemed very open for Mythic Iceland, so I think I'll write some more and flesh it out to make it presentable.
  10. Hello Folks, I am currently writing down a setting idea for this year's "The Kraken" gaming convention in Germany. Since I would love to hear if the setting is "attractive", I decided to post the content here - and I hope to receive some feedback. There are not many rule changes in there, just setting information so far. The complete document will be ready by the end of the year, though. So please let me know what you think ... Get the setting PDF
  11. no worries, time-travel is all about fun ...
  12. Thanks for all the responses. I'll think about buying it, but at the moment my group is playing "Crusaders of the Amber Coast" - so it will take a bit of time before I really buy it.
  13. I have just seen the new version has been made public. Since it is now aimed at RQ6, how much work would it be to use it for BRP? Is the older BRP version sill available somewhere (PDF) ? -- cheers, Rob
  14. Also make sure you use Adobe Arcobat Reader. At least on a Mac the provided Preview app sometimes messes up and prints are less good/incomplete. I always use Acrobat for printing, at least then I know it gets as good as possible. Otherwise I shy away from it for reading ... there are faster apps for that.
  15. LOL, thanks guys. I could also compile a Linux version, but past experience showed lack of interest. Let me know if you find something missing or wrong. The tool is a bit try & error as I know how it works and it was never meant to be released to the public. But here we go! The "Minion" output should be used in conjunction with my Minion rules in the downloads section of this forum.
  16. I did a GM Tool for BRP a while ago. It can be found here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/529658/BRP/NPC-Creator%20Mac.zip or Windows: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/529658/BRP/NPC-Creator.zip Differnet tools are included, e.g. Villain creation, Minion/Extra creation, Creature Crafter, treasure tables, dice roller, etc. it creates a character output like this: STR: 15 Effort: 75 CON: 10 Stamina: 50 SIZ: 13 INT: 12 Idea: 60 POW: 10 Luck: 50 DEX: 18 Agility: 90 APP: 13 Charisma: 65 EDU: 13 Knowledge: 65 Move: 10 Distinctive Features ARMS AND HANDS: hairy ARMS AND HANDS: one arm longer than the other Personality Type Solve problems by means of physical force and brawn. 17. Nothing really beats human skin for maps. The smell alone is worth it. Under the right conditions it will last a long time, but I think parchment is even better. Modern paper by the way is the worst you can use. It will crumble and fail after just a bit over a century - except if buried deep under waste, it seems.
  18. I understand what you are looking for but sadly this is not a feature of Adobe Acrobat, but would be more of a software presenting the rules. Also, it would be extremely difficult to handle page breaks and associated artwork. Not to speak of tables and text boxes. Tables could be presented as a separate "click" within a text, same for text boxes, but in a non-PC environment (tablets) where you do not have a "window" function, these rules would look cluttered and navigation can be a nightmare. It would be possible simply to "hide" the non-used text blocks, but then again it would look awkward with white spaces here and there and people would complain about it. Idea: replace the non used text block with optional art. All good until you need to reference optional rules in a text. Idea here: different text blocks depending on rules selected. It is possible to do this (I used to, in a way), but the main problem is: it needs to be an application rather than a PDF ... and printing is not possible due to layout issues. For the current BRP PDF: if you own Adobe Acrobat (not the Reader), replace the unwanted optional rules with white boxes (comments) or place some artwork over it. After that you can print it, comments enabled.
  19. most NPCs I take from the BGB-Creatures-NPC Section (p.360). If I need some professionals, or the NPC's in the book are not sufficient, I simply make up skills in relation to the Skill Ratings on page 48 in the BGB (Novice, Neophyte, Amateur, Professional, Expert, etc.). Or my mook rules: easy/average/hard: 30%/40%/50% in everything. Numbers appearing: 1d6. Hitpoints: 6 to fall unconscious. Armour: none/2/4. For their personality (if needed), I look at the Personality Traits rules (p.294) and find real persons (or movie characters) to remind me how to play them. NPC creation time: 5 seconds to 2 minutes. BRP can really be that simple. Most important rule: the players never need to see their stats. If more set-up time is available, I go with the HeroQuest 2 rules: write 100 words to describe the character, use it to find attributes/skills, assign the numbers to fit (see above), check personality, done. As for game balancing stats: never gave a thought about it. Characters either overcome the enemy or find an other way around it. They will find out early enough if the enemy is tougher than expected. If all is too easy: throw in more mooks to support the main characters.
  20. Hm, I don't see the point. There is a "Optional Rules Checklist" in the book that does exactly this. It also refers to the page the rule is mentioned. So for a physical or PDF book I do not see the necessity.
  21. don't think so, it is a big deal of the history and setting.
  22. Orbital seems to be interesting! Thanks, rust
  23. Yes, nice idea, nice setting - but the mind transfer was a bit over the top.
  24. ok, I'll go and buy the PDF now
