  1. This ^^^. I heard that Minayrith had the heels snapped off his boots by the closing mouth of the dragon as the party escaped.
  2. I just don't think Middle Earth Conversion therapy will work on Glorantha 😱😝.
  3. We no need no steenkin' badgers!
  4. It's possible. I read that Wittgenstein had been neglecting himself physically for years prior to the cancer diagnosis, and collapsed while preparing to cross a highway in the rain soon after the diagnosis. People stopped to help him, but he only lasted a few days thereafter. This is somewhat off topic.
  5. Remember that generational feuds have started over seating arrangements at wedding feasts.
  6. The ceremony itself is secondary to all the financial haggling that goes on between clans and families prior to the wedding.
  7. I was under the impression that this death was preceded by a period of prolonged self neglect of which his death in the street was part.
  8. Incorrect. Some of those people will have been idiots. Every group of humans always contains either professional (village), amateur, or temporary idiots. Idiots are a constant in all periods in history, in all sexes and orientations, and in all social classes, cliques, and groups. Idiocy is in all ways inseparable from the human condition, and anyone at any time may discover that, on reflection, they either are, have been, or were recently an idiot. The fact is that idiots have always walked among us, and been systematically discriminated against. Most people during their lives will repeatedly flirt with idiocy, and many of us are in fact either living in various states of idiocy, or are recovering idiots. Idiots have made enormous contributions to human history and development, and continue to play a role in every aspect of the human experience. What most people don't expect to discover is that they themselves may be idiots without knowing it, or are descended from long lines of illustrious idiots whom they took to be perfectly normal. There has a long term push to deny idiots employment on the basis of their idiocy, but such discrimination seldom prevails, as it seems whenever someone makes a system idiot-proof, inevitably, and usually quite quickly, the designer of the system will discover that someone has built a better idiot, leaving the designer to wonder (if they have the wit to reflect on their predicament) whether they are, in fact, the idiot, and thus need to be sacked themselves. Idiots spread a great deal of merriment and joy in the world, and are the source of many highly educational stories, they love well (if not wisely) and their willingness to 'take one for the team' is proverbial. You likely know and love many idiots, and it is time to stop assuming that people like Wittgenstein and Frazer were in fact not idiots themselves. For example, I would suggest that Wittgenstein was absolutely an idiot based on the way he died, as it was completely f*&king idiotic and preventable.
  9. Wasn't this all covered in Rick and Morty episode "Claw and Hoarder"?
  10. The Hero Wars seems to be an amalgam of First Age illuminism, EWF, and God Learnerism in collision. I wonder what new things will emerge? Personally I like the fact that members of Lunar Cults who quit and become Orlanthi are stuck with the Lunar Cycle, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. After all, they still get the benefits of the Glow Line and the Full Moon, and potentially the Temple of the Reaching Storm.
  11. I say a billion stories, because I figure there's about a billion sentients in Glorantha. But you're right. Scarcity is a problem.
  12. I am so glad I began this topic. I was under the misapprehension that soap was invented in Medieval France. I suppose I should have checked wikipedia. My thoughts exactly JRE.

    Soap?

What do people think about the possibility of soap in Glorantha? I mean, it isn't very bronze age, but nor is it an overly complex recipe. Is it the sort of thing the God Learners might well have popularized or are the people of Glorantha still cleaning themselves with denatured urine, vinegar, pummice, sand, ashes and/or strigils?
  14. This is a great idea for a topic. I received W&E for my birthday yesterday, and I was much taken with the low end magic items included at the end. They are 'flavorsome', and I like them a lot. I had a couple of ideas along similar lines: A black clay troll's head tea kettle that yells abuse at you in Darkspeech when the water is boiled. A bone sewing needle that will sew the same stitch as the last ten stitches performed with it, in a straight line for 5 minutes for 1mp. A spirit possessed bucket that actively dodges being filled with any fluid other than clean water. (Its great for keeping water clean, but amusing if someone tries to piss in it) A bronze grappling hook in the form of a comical three legged dwarf. It will collapse and jump down towards you if you say "Return please" in Mostali. A white clay funnel covered in water runes. It removes diseases from any fluid poured through it.
  15. Okay, I don't know why Devise is a healer skill. Could it be because they like freeing animals from traps? Could it be that they sometimes need to rescue people from traps too? Or perhaps it is to keep their medical supplies locked (or open someone else's?). Perhaps it is so they can make and assemble alchemical equipment? I wouldn't be surprised if this +10% Devise was a typo.
  16. Yes, that sort of thing... Exactly. Your classic scholar dabbling in the Cthulhu mythos for "the good of everyone" because "I, as a scholar, with purely altruistic aims, can be trusted".
  17. I must say that I don't think this is a plausible plot for a number of reasons. Stormbulls have a zero tolerance for chaos. Even using a possessed scorpionman as a spy is not allowed, ignoring the fact that spirits of law don't possess chaos monsters, but destroy them. It would be plausible for a far less chaos hating cult to try something like this, but not Stormbulls. I suggest a Lhankor Mhy sorcerer or a shaman. Apparently merchants sometimes pay for scorpionmen as guards. I assume they are Etyries merchants. That would seem like an obvious point to intercept a scorpionman.
  18. Good questions. My take is as follows: Gonn's a giant, not an all-knowing demigod. Yes, you'd need to tell him, but saying that the Cradle made it down the river unmolested would be a great start. It is very likely that he knows about the success of the cradle within the year, and his "agents" will likely report on who helped, but that is no guarantee that a roll-call of heroes is taken and presented to Gonn, or that he remembers every name on the list. Notable fighters may stand out. If memory serves me, Argrath performed the Drinking the Giant's Cauldron hero quest with Gonn Orta before discovering Gonn's baby problem, then he went to the Zola Fel cult, and pointed out their obligation, and then roused a defense for the cradle. This is what gives Argrath the power to employ giants during the Hero Wars. The training rules and prices are on page 416-417. There may actually be a mark-up because trollkin are not good students, and there are formal obligations between a teacher and student, that will be embarrassing to the teacher if it gets out they trained trollkin, even for a ton of silver. Gonn Orta prefers to trade magic items for magic items afaik. Odds on Gonn will always prefer to trade bulky trade goods over those fiddly little coins. Each gold wheel is like a tiny speck to him. I play it that Gonn doesn't know that Gondo is an Ogre, and that Gondo is an illuminate who cannot be detected as chaotic, otherwise every lhankor mhy with a detect chaos spell or stormbull initiate would just blow his cover. As it stands, the chaos creatures in his wagons are impossible to hide from such spells, but he can claim they are being sold to the Lunars for some upcoming gladiatorial spectacle. Let's face facts, it's hard to hide one's true identity in Glorantha. Gonn is more likely to trade for information, or provide it gratis to people who have cultivated his friendship. Yes, he might sell information that only he knows for a god price, but that price is probably a magical item, not money. He will pay the going market rate. Gonn is a canny merchant who has "agents abroad in the world", (or friends if you prefer) like Joh Mith. He knows the worth of things, and likely enjoys discussing prices and international news via mindspeech with vistors.
  19. There are literally a billion or more stories you can tell in Glorantha. If you want some easy ideas that haven't been covered, think about the potential for telling stories with Lunars as heroes/protagonists. There are a pitiful number of scenarios that are even notably Lunar compatible, and plenty of room in Tarsh to fill in.
  20. I really wish there was a Prax mod for either of the Mount & Blade games. Hell, a Pendragon mod would be great too. Sadly I am no coder or I'd d.i.m. From what I can tell, the main issue would be getting the wire frames for all the different Prax beasts.
  21. I recommend Tales of the Reaching Moon #18. It covers the Lismelder Tribe, the Greydog Clan, and the Upland Marsh.
  22. Let me help... "Everything you have heard about Yelmalio is wrong! We do not hunt heads!! We do not use garottes!!! We don't spit on silver!!!!" 😄
  23. Page 282 of RQ:RiG features Vasana, who is only a Vinga Adventuress initiate joining the Storm Voice subcult. Logically this extends the rune spells she has access to, but it also means she can potentially rise in both subcults of Orlanth.
  24. It would be great if some of these "lost and ancient documents of Glorantha lore" could be rebooted into the Jonstown Compendium. I hope that anyone who is in contact with Ian Thomson suggests it to him, and other people who have similar out of print things from way back too.
