  1. Our group uses handouts and imagination. The only maps we use are the town maps and layout maps that Spence mentioned. As for miniatures, we don't use them, though some of the players like having the eM-4 Dunwich Detectives for fun. And sometimes they like to break out the horrorclix for fun as well.
  2. Mansion of Madness is one of my favorites! I would certainly say pick that up. Orient Express will keep you busy that's true. If you can find it, the Mountains of Madness mega adventure is amazing as well. I think I heard a rumor that this one may be getting a 7th edition update? Also, Miskatonic River Press put out two awesome adventure books, More Adventures in Arkham Country and New Tales of the Miskatonic Valley....so good! Though I love having tons of modules, scenarios, adventures, what have you, laying around!
  3. Thank you Moes for the reply. That clears things up immensely. After reading what you wrote I went back to the combat and firearms section and re-read it. I think you're 100% right that pushing, bonus/penalty, etc will be a little odd at first but then easy peasy. As a side note, I agree with Rust in the fact you should keep doing what you're doing with extreme successes. Especially if your group likes it, keep it going!
  4. This is good to know. I am currently running a gaming club and have a few regular members. They all like the idea of keeping a character and evolving them over time. While Adventurer's League lets you use the same character to progress, there is a cut off for the character at some point. This made some club members sad when they had to "retire" an adventure to do the next season.
  5. Hey folks, just a disclaimer, this post will have spoilers for this scenario. I run a gaming club at the local library for the middle school's enrichment program. We have a few members at the ages of 12-16. Currently, we are running D&D, and more specifically, the Adventurer's League material. Most of the kids only know about D&D and I want to introduce them, slowly, to other systems. I became a member of the Cult of Chaos and plan to run those scenarios with them, but first I was going to run Canis Mysterium because it is an awesome introduction scenario! Does anyone here have experience with that scenario? My question about it pertains to the secret alter that the Ghoul and Tobias Kurtz has. I was a tad hazy on the conclusion. I understand that if Tobias and the Ghoul are defeated (arrested, killed, etc.) and the alter is not found that the ritual may go off? And if Tobias and the Ghoul escape, the return to the alter and perform the ritual? The part I am most hazy about is that if the investigators find the alter and disrupt the materials, it states the ritual cannot be completed, but then it mentions that if Tobias and company escape they can pull it off summoning the undead. Perhaps I am being to analytical? Or does the scenario seem to push for the investigators learning that the town of Coldwater Falls suffers a horrible fate to the hungry undead?
  6. I was saddened to hear this news. I really enjoyed what Magic World did. My friends never really understood my love for Magic World. They often said "you play D&D, why do you need another fantasy system"? As much as I love D&D, it was my first game, and the new 5th edition, Magic World, along with its predecessors, have something D&D will never have...the BRP system! Characters in Magic World, and BRP in general, are so flavorful as is the combat and creature design. I was hoping this line would have continued with a setting book for the Southern Reaches and more supplements like the Advanced Sorcery title. It really had potential to become something on its own. However, it is good to see that Chaosium is open to folks contributing to the system and that people love it as much as I do. And the fact that the pdf will be available is great too. Just means I need to protect my physical copy! Heh.
  7. So glad this is getting a second edition. I cannot wait to see how he improves something that was already quite awesome to begin with!
  8. That's an awesome review of your experience, very detailed. I've played CoC for years and "grew up" on the older version of the system. I've yet to really take a stab at 7th edition full swing, but I plan to incorporate into my gaming club. I've been pouring over the rules and tried the solo scenario to familiarize myself with the basics. I have a question for you, when the bonus/penalty die mechanic came up in your session for pushing, did it take the players some getting used to? I had a similar fear with D&D 5th edition's advantage system but came to really love that. I am assuming the bonus/penalty system will probably be the same way, that once implemented it'll feel second nature. Second, did multiple attacks come up at all? I am a little hazy on how those work in this edition. I've noticed that say a .38 has the Attack section as 1(3). I take this to mean that it can fire once or three times. In the old system, the "extra" shots came within the DEX ordering but this system mention about a straight penalty to the shots? Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions...or if anyone else posts here, feel free to take a stab. Glowing review and it makes me happy to see this version taking off so well!
