  1. It's what we've done with the Talents for the Pirates & Dragons setting. Along with Doubloons (shinier Hero Points), they make for a more cinematic game (like wot Mankcam said!). The way we've done it is to grant a Talent every 20 Improvement Points - and you don't actually spend the IP, you are just entitled to a Talent when you hit the marker (so you have to track them)
  2. Ha ha - well, up to now, it hasn't, beyond me making a big pile of all my books on the era/region. I've been busy writing all the KS stuff for P&D and bringing out my new OneDice system and settings. I'm at the stage where I have actually cleared the decks - next week I'll finish OneDice Fantasy (the 6th book of the series), then I'm probably going to take a stroll back to D100/Renaissance... I'm not promising anything (I have a few other options on the table to consider), but I'll probably start slinging together some story-boarding/structure plans.
  3. Hi Folks, Glad you like what you see, bturner All the Pirates & Dragons corebooks (and the Bestiary, when it passes print) are in colour. But it will have been a premium colour hardback that you received, as those are the only ones available at the moment. Drivethru have kindly come to an arrangement with us to upgrade the standard hardbacks to premiums, for those who joined the Kickstarter at standard h/c print levels, by way of apology for the delay - they have asked us to forward their apologies to everyone for the time it has taken to resolve the print issues. For some unfathomable reasons, the standard hardcover files haven't been approved for print yet - they are being constantly re-uploaded by Drivethru (and Lightning Source US seem to be happy with them, but they keep being knocked back by Lightning Source UK).
  4. Ooh, sorry, Yeti, I've only just seen this. Glad you're having fun with it - and the new spell is cool (and very useful!). The spells just may cause a Major wound (simply go to the Major Wound table, if the resulting damage is enough - i.e., the target's MWL). Yes, dual weapons merely offsets the off hand penalty. It can never be higher than the Close Combat skill. It really is only useful if your Adventurer fights with two weapons a lot, and wants to keep his or her Dual Weapons skill close to the level of his or her Close Combat skill. Good luck on your travels to Kernow - I don't think the wildlife is as hostile (but your poor players should still have plenty to laugh at/worry about) Cheers, Peter
  5. A new forum for all our games has been set up at The Gaming Tavern. There is a specific Cakebread and Walton forum for company announcements and talk here: http://www.gamingtavern.eu/phpBB3testTHZ/viewforum.php?f=71 There is a d100 forum where Renaissance and Dark Streets and Pirates and Dragons should be discussed here: http://www.gamingtavern.eu/phpBB3testTHZ/viewforum.php?f=7 There is a OneDice forum here: http://www.gamingtavern.eu/phpBB3testTHZ/viewforum.php?f=74 This is not a replacement to our participation here - we will still be every bit as active It just means that those who want to discuss any of our games (including non-1D100) have a place to go.
  6. OK - the problems have persisted, but we've been able to post the following to our KS backers: "The bad news is that the printer is *still* having problems with the standard editions of Pirates & Dragons. The good news is that, due to the utter coolness of our print partner, DriveThruRPG, we're going to be able to send all you people who are still waiting for your standard hardbacks a premium hardback of the rulebook for no extra cost! We'll start sending them out next week." Thank you for your patience
  7. It seems the UK printers couldn't get the file right, the US ones could (our US proofs were good, the UK ones weren't). So for the umpteenth time we're awaiting proofs. This time Drivethru have done the upload and are coordinating with Lightning Source. It's so frustrating, apologies again to all who are waiting. The minute they get their act together, we'll send them out.
  8. The standard paperback of the Pirates & Dragons core rulebook is now available! If you want a huge dollop of D100 fantasy pirate swashbuckling, this is the game for you! Forthcoming products for the line, now in production, include Curious Creatures of the Dragon Isles, a full-colour bestiary, and Tales of Tortuga, a gazetteer and two adventures involving double-crossing pirates, gruesome monsters, blue cannibals, zombies and untrustworthy dragons. Or if you'd rather wait a week or two, the standard hardback edition will be out soon. And a cut down, OneDice edition of Pirates & Dragons, featuring simple rules in a small 130 page full colour paperback, will also be available soon. Watch this space! You can pick up Pirates & Dragons here: http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/128665/Pirates--Dragons-Core-Rulebook Buy the book, get the PDF for free!
  9. Hi Marras, Welcome I agree, that series is very appropriate (even though, from memory, it's set a little later) - good call!

    Q&A

Ken & I will be doing a Q&A chat tonight. Feel free to drop by: #rpgnet welcomes Peter Cakebread & Ken Walton (Pirates & Dragons, OneDice) 08/04/2014 2:00 p.m. CST! (8pm in the UK). http://clockworkandchivalry.co.uk/games/renaissance-2/pirates-dragons/ http://clockworkandchivalry.co.uk/2014/07/onedice-is-here/ There's a quick link to the chat here: http://tinyurl.com/rpgnetchat
  11. There are some (fairly cruel) rules for creating clockwork devices. Aside from that, the rules are the same.
  12. C&C is a huge setting book, with lots of detail, clockwork and magic, ECW history, random tables, adventures, etc. Renaissance Deluxe is more designed as a tool to be used by GMs wanting to run their own black powder era games - so is a lot more generic and has a lot less setting specific detail.
  13. And here is a look at the Premium Hardcover Standard Hardcover and Softcover should be available soon - we are awaiting the latest batch of proofs, but Drivethru have said the problem with the printers has been addressed.
  14. Us too - I will post as soon as, but I thought I'd mention, Drivethru and LS are working on it and hope to have it resolved very shortly. (I believe the problem isn't at our end, or with the files, which is kind of a relief!) Apologies again, and here's hoping we hear early this week.
  15. Many thanks I'll leave Ade to go into more details on the campaign, save to say it'll go beyond England and be in several parts.
  16. There is a new 65 page PDF adventure for Dark Streets available (written by me and Ade). When a professor goes missing from a prestigious college, the Bow Street Runners are called to York to investigate. It soon becomes apparent that he's not the only person to have mysteriously vanished. A stand-alone 18th century Cthulhu Mythos adventure for Dark Streets, The Case of the Missing Professor also forms part one of the forthcoming Terror of the Toad campaign. http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/132145/The-Case-of-the-Missing-Professor
  17. The premium hardback edition of Pirates & Dragons rulebook is now available from Drivethru. Here is the update we just posted on Kickstarter: "Hi Folks, The good news is that the premium edition of the Pirates & Dragons rulebook has now been passed for print. We are going to be ordering your copies, to be sent to you direct, today - they should be with you very shortly. The bad news is that the standard paperback and hardback editions are still not approved, due to technical difficulties beyond our control. Without boring you with all the technical details, the standard files are with the printer already, but we need acceptable proofs from them before we can send them out to you. We will update you with news as soon as we have some more. We will also let you know when the other items are being sent out (maps, etc). The bestiary is complete and in layout - and we do not anticipate there being such a delay with the bestiary at the printer end. Thank you again for all your patience and apologies to everyone who is still waiting. Cheers, Peter and Ken" The premium edition and PDF is available here: http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/128665/Pirates--Dragons-Core-Rulebook And Ken will be contacting anyone who has already purchased a PDF with the print discount deal, to see what their print preference is (anyone who does want a premium copy can receive their voucher in the next few days). The (less expensive!) standard hardback and paperback versions should be available soon! We will update as soon as we have more news.
  18. Yes, we are still having trouble... we ordered the latest batch of premium prints only to find that the money went out but the order didn't! It's been rectified and they are on their way, so we will give an update when they arrive (normally they go out within a few days of ordering, so we should have them by the end of the week). The standard proofs are awaiting the thumbs up again (even though the files are identical!), but we have been promised they'll be bumped up the waiting list (it isn't long anyway). Apologies for the continued delay, it is very frustrating. As soon as we have the copies, we'll be shouting about it - and we promise we will send them out straight away.
  19. I'm glad you like it Yes! We have had a lot of trouble getting the print version out (due to hiccups at the printer end and with our file prep) - but it looks like the problems have been resolved - we'll know for sure when we get the proofs back...again. We also have Curious Creatures of the Dragon Isles, a bestiary. The writing is complete, the initial art is done (bar some colouring) and so it should be out in PDF very soon and in print not long after. Tales of Tortuga is also coming out - the final Kickstarted piece - a Gazetteer for one of the archipelagos, with two short adventures. After that, it'll depend on the success of the line - we certainly have a host of ideas!!!
  20. A brilliant review of Dark Streets by Aaron from Roleplayers Chronicle http://roleplayerschronicle.com/?p=42912
