Tend to collect rpg's more for the systems than to play a lot of them (don't have that kinda time anymore). Not a d20 fan; I believe that Iron Crown was the real core of gaming, and the most comprehensive system, not the pap they call Pathfinder, these days.
Summoning and binding, iirc. Still spells, and pretty open ended for effect. I only played SB, and I do know what you mean about escalation, although not with MERP.
