A Folkmoot. If you can find a copy of Saxons, I think it’s described there. (Not near books at the moment) SDLeary

Alternative Critical Special Results Procedure
SDLeary replied to trechriron's topic in Basic Roleplaying
Use Masteries, allowing the "skill" to reset. No need to fiddle with Specials and Criticals. Masteries would allow the user to bump the level of success up or down a level. SDLeary -
Yes! I actually forgot about that site. Thanks for bringing it back to my attention. SDLeary

One "tradition" (house rule) is that you ignore hits to that location, and they hit the next location (arm -> chest, leg -> other leg or abdomen). Another is that you roll % to determine how much of the arm is either severed or remaining, and then the GM makes a decision based on that. For example, if only the "hand" is severed, you might not lose any HP in the location, but of course you may lose skill and obviously use of that part of the body. On the other hand, if you lose enough of the arm, say above the elbow, then the entire location might then be ignored. No official rules that I am aware of, primarily because Hit Locations are no longer the default, and thought as to integrating Locations heavily back into the core has not occurred at Chaosium. Hey all, found this LINK in a discussion on Book Publishing over on RPGnet. Suggestion articles on the site are short, but cover many (most?) of the issues that I learned WAY BACK in High School print shop, updated for digital sensibilities. Most of the posters on the site seem to come from a Fiction background, but there is significant information for the Non-Fiction crowd as well. SDLeary

How is Homeland/Occupation/Cult skills calculated?
SDLeary replied to Electorcountdonut's topic in RuneQuest
It works for other games, so why not RQ... "RuneQuest Big Book of Tables!" When do you think you'll have this ready for us? 😉 More seriously though, if we could come up with at least a framework/template, perhaps this could be used by authors to insert into their future regional supplements, or added as an errata for those already in publication. Balance, if you are referring to skill points, is a lot easier to justify than overall balance. If we wanted to go old school, we could start with 30 points/yr and try to model and then modify from there. SDLeary -

Or “Archaic”? SDLeary -

Perceforest has rules for creating and maintaining a Ville, basically a manoral holding. There doesn't seem to be anything about castles or strongholds in particular, but an Advantage that a Ville can have is a Palisade. This could probably be extended somewhat. There is Ville combat, but it is against the encroachment of The Forest. At a glance it looks like it could at least provide a mechanism for the Ville (as a whole) to resist something, without having to devolve to individual combat. SDLeary

There are also rules for manors and strongholds in Pendragon that you could adapt. I’m not aware of anything in base BRP though. @Raleel, perhaps also in Perceforest? Don’t have my books nearby at the moment.

Very true, but @NickMiddleton's original question was "what we wanted to see published" for the game. 🙂 And, you will note, that I mentioned that they would be more than just genre books, but would provide guidance for GMs to introduce the provided concepts into their own settings. Many many GMs still like to use settings of their own creation. With the right guidance in these books, it could also open up opportunities for other aspiring writers. SDLeary

Magic World Super World Future World ... You might even create a slipcase for them, and sell them as a set... A name for this set is on the tip of my tongue! 😉 Note that these would be more than simple genre books, but they would also provide guidance for GMs as to how to integrate the options presented into their settings. As many of the Alephtar books as possible... Celestial Empire or Wind on the Steppes (for example) with the "Chaosium Treatment" would be a beautiful books. SDLeary

Probably not. In melee, especially against someone with a shorter weapon and shield, a “swing” is going to allow an opportunity for your opponent to get inside. So I always envision longer weapons like this being choked up to improve personal defense. The situation would be as you describe though IF the Halberer or Longaxe weirder can rely on someone else to defend them. SDLeary

No, it wouldn't be hard. Was just wondering if someone had tried it, and what issues they may have run into. Perhaps issues with armor, or something else that I haven't thought of. Also, how they figured hit points. I started at the beginning, and simply divided up the locational HP, but quickly figured out that characters would end up very short very quickly! SDLeary
-
It might. I was just thinking of something to make it more visually apparent to players on their character sheet, and was wondering if anyone had tried this before. SDLeary

Looking more at the human form, mainly the limbs: L Shin, R Shin, L Thigh... and so on. This along with a more "center of mass" distribution to the location chart. SDLeary
-
E-gads... no intention to go that far! "delicates" or left big toe sound like something that Phoenix Command might do. SDLeary
-
The three top, and the lower left books, yes. Those were the covers on the tape bound versions of the monographs. Bottom center is the old BRP pamphlet with a new cover. SDLeary

Has anyone out there in BRP-landia ever tried out more Hit Locations? Say, 11; breaking the leg into thigh and shin, and the arm into forearm and upper arm?. How did you distribute HP? SDLeary
-
Of course. Have that. Just trying to be a completist! Also, one of my copies of RQ3 has a broken spine, and am trying to prepare for its eventual sacrifice on the alter of a project I'm planning out. Say what some might about the monographs, I haven't had one yet that had a fragile spine. SDLeary

Yes. And based on the Kickstarter messages, he is having a difficult time outside of Golden Goblin/gaming. SDLeary
