  1. No, that IS a Rapier. A Rapier WAS a cut and thrust weapon. You can see the flat in several shots. Now, that is a mighty thin blade, but there is still a blade there, not just a thrusting point like an epee or estoc. SDLeary
  2. This is very similar to how Pendragon handles things. Using a shield adds to your ability to withstand damage. Single roll for the "combat". SDLeary
  3. I actually like the RQ2 method better. A fixed potency for a given batch of a substance like an acid makes sense, I would simply adjust the potencies of the various types of acid listed. A fixed potency would also allow a simple modeling of chemical reaction with the world around... that is perhaps reducing the potency of the acid by one point per round to simulate oxidation, chemical bonding, dilution, with the surrounding substances. This would allow a 2 POT acid to eat thru leather armor, but only pit a metal breastplate. SDLeary
  4. Because its easier to do with dual. I'm not sure about him, but this is why I consider "fencing" a Martial Art in game terms. Riposte with a single weapon is a special or advanced technique; not something your "street" level RPG fighter is going to understand, but the Heroic level guy certainly will. I'd make the player spend the points if they want to be fancy. SDLeary
  5. OK, when you said Greatsword, I was thinking Claymore or Swiss greatswords, not a longsword (bastard sword, hand-and-a-half sword, etc). SDLeary
  6. Parrying a greatsword SWING? I'd have to see that to believe it. But even if it is the case, I think the rule is more for weapons that have their majority of mass near the end of the weapon, like an axe, mace, or maul. SDLeary
  7. It appears that: "In the Jungle, the mighty jungle, the lions sleeps tonight." SDLeary
  8. Nice try, but I think it zoomed by them. SDLeary
  9. I LIKE IT! This will add another path to Classic Fantasy style games! SDLeary
  10. I personally haven't tried it, but i've been told that using Mutations works better. SDLeary
  11. In other words, the Vehicle rules could vary dramatically depending upon the Setting of choice; especially for things in the SciFi arena. SDLeary
  12. Axes have generally been shown to do more damage to shields than swords with a blade hit. As the Viking shield that could "catch" blades seem to have been un-rimmed and un-surfaced (that is bare wood planks and a boss: modern reconstructions at least), I don't think it would stand up to axe hits very well with a rim hit. SDLeary
  13. You could abstract the combat a little further to get this, and eliminate the separate parry if you wanted to. Pendragon does this. Success and higher than your opponenet = you get to roll damage against opponent Success but lower than your opponent = they roll damage against you, but you get to parry (weapon or shield blocks some damage) Failure, but opponent succeeds = they roll damage, but you do not get to parry and on. Does almost require blackjack rolling method, and that can cause its own issues with specials and criticals. SDLeary
  14. I can't remember if this was a house rule or not, but for some reason I have 1.5x stuck in my head. Str could be "trained" no higher than 1.5 x Siz. Now that I'm thinking harder about it, I'm thinking un-enhanced Str in Superworld (not that that should apply to RQ or Cthulhu, or any other variation of BRP). Anyone out there can check this, my copy is packed away at the moment. SDLeary
  15. Huzzah! I have a space right next to ROME waiting! Speaking of ROME.... Is Merrie England US Letter or European A4 format? ROME is a bit tall for most book shelves here on the left side of the Pond. SDLeary
  16. This is more comedy as Crockett and Tubbs ARE Cthulhu creatures! SDLeary
  17. Yes, but only with the same weapon. If using a different weapon or a shield to parry, the skills are separate. Bad assumption on my part though that the Phil was asking about skill use with shields (or other off-hand parrying device) on re-reading his question. SDLeary
  18. No, still separate skills. One of the suggestions upthread were to combine them, giving a bonus to parry if using a shield. No problems with attack and parry in same round, as long as the attack and parry doesn't occur on the same SR/DEX Rank. That is verbotten. Offhand incurs a penalty unless the skill is learned with that hand... Shield, Main-Gauche, etc. SDLeary
  19. I like this for simplification, but in this case, how would you use the shield as an attacking weapon? SDLeary
  20. Thats what the current Sartar and Sartar Companions, and other HQ books would be for. The main RQ book would give information on how to use and convert info in the HQ books for BRP use, along with a basic overview of Glorantha, or perhaps just Genertela. SDLeary
  21. Yes. The way I envision it, "RuneQuest" would be an outline of the supported "options" (hit locations, et al) with perhaps a new option or two thrown in that the would support. In addition, a basic outline of how to cull, convert, and GM the HQ supplements like Sartar and the Sartar Companion, with a small bestiary of the common non-human and monster types, with a bit more space to PC worthy races (Mostali, Aldryami, and Uz). Probably, all told, not bigger or much bigger than the core HQ book. SDLeary
  22. If they were, I would hope that it would be as a supplement to BRP, rather than a full-blown separate game. I've already re-bought rules too many times over the last 5 years! ;-) SDLeary
  23. Only if you try to cast the spell yourself. Let your smartphone do it! SDLeary
