  1. If you are wondering what all they published: Hobby Japan (RQ3) 849 1988 Dragon Pass (wargame) 857-HJ1 1990 RuneQuest Screen Set 85711 Gloranthan Bestiary 85712 Apple Lane 85713 1990 Snake Pipe Hollow 85714 1990 RuneQuest Cities 8573 1994 Monster Coliseum 8577 1990 Gods of Glorantha 8578 1991 Griffin Island 8579 1988 RuneQuest Basic Rules 8579-1 1988 RuneQuest Advanced Set 1989 RuneQuest Companion 8585 1989 Glorantha: Genertela 8586 1993 Trollpak 8588 1990 Elder Secrets 8590 1993 Sun County 8591 1993 River of Cradles 1992 RuneQuest 90s (3rd ed.) 1993 Dragon Atlas 1994 King of Sartar
  2. HG Well's Martians are fine to use in general, regardless of being in Malleus - just write them up in your own words, etc. That's like the CoC King of Chicago book having the City of Chicago in it. Using the City of Chicago is fine as well - just write it up in your own words. When asked these sorts of questions, I usually ask myself "can I reasonably imagine that item/person/place being used in a non-cthulhu way" (or non-RuneQuest way, or non-Pendragon way, etc.) I hope that helps.
  3. I'm very sure I am not validating your point. This BRP license isn't meant to crack down on pre-existing types of IP violations. It is our way of giving people more publishing options without making the situation worse. We're not expecting the BRP license to slow down or stop somebody who wants to publish a CoC supplement without a license. We also don't want to allow anyone to use the BRP license to retro-clone our CoC game.
  4. I never mentioned plagiarism, or referred to it. I suggest you read my post, specifically the one directly above yours, for the main thrust of my approach to this discussion. As for IP like Dresden files, Princess Bride, Ravenloft, and similar, I don't see why that applies to the license options we offer. You are welcome to belittle Glorantha, but I don't see how that relates to the discussion either. I don't remember ever saying anything about anyone violating our Gloranthan IP, or wanting to. If you read my previous post you will see I mention how we have a wide variety of community content programs available. As for my statements about "a number of people want to...", as the person who has had to send out DMCA letters, C&D letters, and contact numerous websites to take down things that violate our IP, I have more than just an assumption about people's intentions. I can't point to websites showing such unauthorized content because we have had the content taken down. I know that other companies do likewise, including WotC, but I am not going to speak for them with specifics about what they did. I've sat in seminars about this specific problem at the GAMA Trade show. I've talked with other companies about it as well. As for "not charging a dime", that is not a factor at all.
  5. If you want to get a license to write Call of Cthulhu, RuneQuest, Pendragon, 7th Sea or HeroQuest material, the license options are already available from Chaosium. Feel free to visit our website and check out the options available. You can also publish material for Call of Cthulhu, RuneQuest, 7th Sea, and HeroQuest via our community content options we have on DTRPG. None of these licenses are hard to obtain, hard to maintain, or onerous in their burdens on the licensee. Feel free to speak with any of our current licensees for their feedback on working with Chaosium as a licensee. While I didn't mention every system Chaosium has published, even some of the ones we aren't currently publishing new material for are also available for licensing. I'd very much like to know why all of the above options, plus the new option of the BRP license just doesn't work for you, or for that matter, anyone else. All I ask is please be specific, and also mostly speak for yourself. A vague example of "I want to write X, but your license options don't allow it" is far better than saying our license options are (insert vague negative word or phrase).
  6. Setting aside what WotC and Mongoose may have done, a lot of clones exist for one other simple set of related reasons. A number of people want to write their own version of a game or game supplements for it without bothering with an IP license of any sort, including paying any royalties.
  7. We are crunching the numbers on that. The deal may not be as good, since we make less money on POD, but we hope we can do some sort of discount for buying direct.
  8. We are looking at that, but it wouldn't be cheap, with multiple books and handouts. It is more likely to be updated a bit and laid out to our new standards. We are exploring options for this very popular campaign. It certainly won't be out of print for as long as it was the last time around (over 20 years).
  9. It is out of stock in some warehouses, including the US warehouse. We will be making it a POD title soon.
  10. 1. We are not working on an SRD specifically for the RQ2 Questworld boxed set. Maybe some day. It's just not a priority. We may just add it as a Jonstown Compendium option. 2. When we talk about "Questworlds", we are referring to a non-Gloranthan version of the current HeroQuest rules.
  11. We kindly ask that you do not refer to simple formatting issues or typos as "errata". Regardless, you are welcome to point out these things so they can be corrected over time.
  12. The Basic Roleplaying system does not specifically match directly to the RuneQuest rules, nor does it to the CoC 7e rules. It is a hybrid.
  13. The SRD document is not meant to be a layout template. You are welcome to use any software like MS Word, Pages, Quark, or InDesign that you want for layout. Any products you produce are free to include as much of your own artwork as you want.
  14. We haven't decided on the exact number of books the Gods of Glorantha manuscript will be divided into, but it could end up being two or three books, each around 200-350 pages each. We try to keep book page counts to 256 pages or less. Very large books suffer from spine fatigue/failure. We tend to price a 256 page book at $45. As for having it all in a slipcase, that is the general intent, although the GoG volumes will almost certainly be sold separately too. They will be divided thematically.
  15. The current Gods of Glorantha manuscript is over 600 pages in length. The work done thus far required a lot of author time, and many of the cults in this manuscript already had a lot of their info already fleshed out (although it did have to be updated and edited, sometimes heavily). It is quite easy to imagine that the rest of the cults in Glorantha would require at least as big of a manuscript, and many of them have far less written about them. There is a very distinct tradeoff between getting a lot of Gloranthan Cults this year, or getting every Gloranthan cult two or three years from now. We at the Chaosium have decided to provide a large number of cults based on what most players desire the most. Holding up the publication of a cult from Dragon Pass or Prax for a few years so people can also get the Cult of (insert deity rarely worshipped in some far flung corner of the lozenge) at the same time would disappoint far more people. The goal of "complete" would, quite bluntly, just sacrifice every ounce of "timeliness". As for what we are interested in publishing, that is another matter. There are two main factors at work here, as we have stated previously, but are worth repeating: 1. WRITING CAPACITY: Jeff and Jason are our main in house writers for RuneQuest, and Jason spends the majority of his time as the line editor. All the rest of the writing comes from freelance authors. Historically, Glorantha has always struggled to attract authors willing and capable of writing for it. That was true in 1980, 1990, 2000, 2010, and is also true today. Wishing for a Book on X or Y doesn't mean anyone is going to step up and want to write it. That is probably doubly true for the less documented areas of Glorantha. 2. ECONOMICS: We are very willing to publish any RuneQuest material that will sell well enough to pay the bills. Some topics though are far from mainstream interests. Yes, we have no doubt that there are fans out there who long to buy a book on X or Y, but many of those topics won't sell well enough for Chaosium to invest the resources (mainly money) for a full blown supplement. In many respects, that's what the Jonstown Compendium was created to help alleviate. Chaosium needs to produce material that will sell X thousand copies, not X hundred copies.
  16. I enjoyed listening to your Podcast. Feel free to reach out if you would like to interview me on a future podcast.
  17. Years ago I posted a few snippets about a small group of outer atomic explorers returning to Glorantha after being away for hundreds of years (since the second age). Hurtling down from the sky dome their ship crash lands into a small lake in the wastes, and they seek to find out where they are. They encounter humans who cannot speak, herded and hunted by inhuman masters. One of their party is killed, and is put on display in the khan's great tent. Another has his INT fixed and becomes a simple herd-man, unable to recognize his friend or speak of their past, including their journeys to the great darkness, where they swore oaths they did not understand, but ones that yielded them powers they sought. Only after escaping and finding his way down to the coast does Talar find answers to where he is and what happened to him. As he and his companion ride along the desolate shore they look up upon the crumbled and blasted remains of the crudely reconstructed watchdog of Corflu. Talar, who did not recognize the red moon in the sky, nor the fate of this blasted world, realizes he was home....
  18. Pegasus Plateau is in layout. Gods of Glorantha is in final editing and art commissioning. The RQ Starter Set is written and going through editing. The GM book is still being written. Numerous other scenario and sourcebooks are still in the writing phase. Specific ETAs not given because we don't have them yet, although the Pegasus Plateau might be done with layout around the end of March.
  19. It will be about 2 weeks before the US warehouse has the new printed version of Dead Light and other Dark Turns.
  20. Here's what I said in the MiG: Griffin Island, 144 pages, Rudy Kraft, Paul Jaquays, GS, Sandy Petersen, 1987. The last book in the series, much akin to what was done for Land of Ninja. They redrew the maps and added supplemental NPC information for personalities such as Bluebird, Cracktwig, Eagle Eye G’jorni, Errap Barbacon, and Joh Mith. Soldier Port is a new city. They also beefed up the encounters with a party of Broos, some Citadel warriors, and a group of Dwarves. I’m not a fan of having cut-apart play aids bound into the book, especially when the binding is as tenuous as it is. Most of the art pieces are new as well. White Dwarf #98, February 1988. Iron Warriors, Jon Quaife, pgs 35-37. Four mysterious characters for Griffin Island. A nice little addition. White Dwarf #101, May 1988. Trouble at the No. 1 Inn, Jon Quaife, pgs 17-30. A Griffin Island scenario for up to 6 characters. It includes dwarves, Gondo Holst, Tarn the Tiger and his pirate crew. White Dwarf #101 is the last issue with any RuneQuest content in it. Thusly an era ended.
