  1. I've had a couple of players leave my game, so looking for some additional players

    Details:

The game is at 7pm US Central time, every other Thursday.  Sessions usually last 3-4 hours, generally closer to 3 than 4. The next session is May 6th

As mentioned, Roll20 for VTT, and Discord for voice.  Currently not using any video, due mainly to my crappy internet( although I've been told that will change "sometime real soon now" )

Set in Sartar, the party is currently based at Clearwine, with several hides of land located in Nymie Vale.

This is a freeform campaign.  I've done some pubulished scenarios, and several homebrew.  There's no telling what I'll do next!

Current campaign date is Fireday/Death Week/Earth Season 1626

Be warned, my Glorantha definitely varies!  Mainly due to my own ignorance of the "official'  timeline and lore.  Along those lines, if you're expecting grand descriptions of elaborate holy day celebrations, this game isn't for you.

Mainly looking for adults, but might consider mature teens.  Although, I had one player who finally admitted to me that he misses a session because his parents made him go to bed.  I suggested my game probably wasn't right for him.

    If you're interested PM me.

  2. Any chance these could be released as downloadable mp3 files?  Or on some podcast app?  YouTube is nice, but the visual doesn't add much a lot of the time, and a downloadable audio file could be listened to while mowing, riding an exercise bike, running on a treadmill, etc.  I have been listening to the Critical Role podcasts for that reason.  Would love to be able to do that with this campaign!

I think boxed sets are great - however I only really buy pdf these days.

Same here.  I am a bit disappointed that we can't get the PDF's early, but I hope at least that getting JUST PDF's, at an appropriately reduced price, will still be an option. I'm only  doing online gaming these days( only partly because of covid ), and while I did buy the hardcopy of the core rules, the bestiary, and the gm pack, I can't remember the last time I even looked at them.

That is an issue in Roll20.  The GM is not facilitated to run a cast of thousands.  There is nothing like the combat sheet holding a dozen NPC stat blocks like there was in RQ2.

It would be amazing if there was a GM sheet for squads etc.

I've found that I never use the online sheets for NPC's when I'm running a game.  Maybe, for one or two leaders, but not the grunts.  I find it much easier to just work up paper sheets.  I roll dice for the NPC's anyway, so there's not a lot of value.  I've been using the Adversary generator here on BRP to build the basics of my NPCS(   Generator ), so it's not a big deal to print them out.  I found online sheets for NPCS gave me toooooooo many windows to flip between.    YMMV.

I’m a Roll20 Pro subscriber and Character Sheet developer already, so when I’ve got free time from January I’ll be working on Roll20 stuff to pass the time.

Have you started working on the sheet?  I noticed the Luck Runes have been replaced with a D20.  I like the hover tips, but honestly miss the Luck runes.  They felt more Gloranthan, but they do make it less obvious what the buttons are for.

Yep, I already had all those corrections in a "more recent" PDF of the "first printing". The only difference I can spot is the new (indeed very welcome!) versioning information on the credits page.

Well, if that's the case, I'm going back to the last "first printing" PDF I've got, since it has all the bookmarks

    - As an attack, it requires a POW vs POW roll. To reduce the effectiveness, you just need to have some targets with more POW than your sorceror.

I've always ruled that the Steal Breath spell targets a volume of AIR, not a person.  So, no need for a POW vs. POW roll.  On the other hand, that also means that anyone that happens to be standing in that volume of air just has to move out of it to avoid suffocation.

  8. There is a good character sheet.  To see it, you have to be in a game that is using it.  At least, that's the only way I know to do it.  So, the easiest way is to just create a game of your own, and, in the "Optional, Choose a character sheet" drop down list, choose RuneQuest Glorantha.

If you don't want to create a game, I've got one that I use for one-shots that is currently inactive.  Send me a PM with your email, and I'll invite you to it, and assign an existing character to you

  9. I like the idea, but do think it needs some tweeking

Definitely think the chance to cast should be the users skill with the spell, not POWx5.  But also think that the user should get the +20%.  In a sense, you're not "casting" the spell when you use the amulet, you're releasing it, and using your skill to control how the intensity is split between strength, duration, and range, and targeting the spell.

I think the creation of the amulet(using that term instead of matrix. A different name leads to less confusion about what we're talking about ) is both too expensive and not expensive enough( in terms of POW ).  Let me explain.  It seems to me that you should have to sacrifice 1 POW per Rune and Technique for the spell.  So, an Amulet of Moonfire would require a minimum of 4 POW to create( 2 Runes and 2 Techniques ).  For that initial cost, you could store a 1 intensity casting of the spell in the Amulet.  For each additional POW above the base cost, you would add an additional 1d6 intensity to the Amulet.  I'm basing that in part on the Magic Matrix spell, where each POW allows the storage of 1d10 MP.

It's not clear from the original description, but I would say that the ritual that "charges" the amulet, stores the MP required for that casting.  The spell already having  been "cast" into the amulet is why you can release the spell faster when you use the amulet.

I agree the concept needs testing.  I'm running a sorcerer in a game now, and I may try to convince the GM to let me try this out.

  10. I'm thinking of using this scenario in my game, but I'm having some trouble with part of it.

    SPOILERS!!!!!

Mainly, not sure how to deal with the communication between the party and Eyes-Shut-Ears-Open.  None of the party have any skill in Auld Wyrmish.  I could just give Eyes-Shut-Ears-Open a minor skill in TradeTalk, but not sure about that. The scenario notes that he "needs only three final students" to complete his task, and move on to his next iteration.  That implies to me that he has probably had prior students, so why has he not already figured out how to communicate with the locals? Kinda frustrating that the scenario, which sounds really interesting, has this road block in it, with no suggestions on how to get past it.  There's a mention of augmenting a Communitations based skill with the Earth Rune, to help with the Speak Auld Wyrmish skill, but I've always assumed you have to have SOME level of skill to augment.

    Suggestions, anyone?

I have a running "personal" system for Foundry VTT. Even the Character Sheet plus basic automation is not cleared for sharing by Chaosium and so will remain a "private" system.

Unless a license is secured with Chaosium, no compendium will ever be provided on VTT as it would be a clear breach of Chaosium IP. Each person would have to work on their own compendium for their campaign.

I'm confused by this, because there is a character sheet, that does quite a bit of automation, available on Roll20.  I understand about the Compendium issue, just not the Character sheet with automation.

As for a Compendium, it is available for Call of Cthulu on Roll20, so, it would seem that there is at least a possibility for RuneQuest, although the player base may not( probably is not ) large enough at the moment

  12. I'd like to give it a try. I can commit to at least six months, probably a year. Even if I decide that PbP is not for me, I'll finish out any scenario we've got started. Who knows, after I give it a try I may be willing to run one of my own.

I did a bunch of maps for GENCON (as did a whole host of truly talented artisans) and made them available on Chaosium's Discord channel. If you haven't already sign up for Cult of Chaos and volunteer to run some games, the community has made some excellent resources!

PS. I'm also planning to do VTT maps for my next JC submission.

Hmm.  I'm on the RuneQuest & Glorantha server on discord, but I'm  not seeing any maps.  Probably looking in the wrong place.

I have signed up for Cult of Chaos, that's  when I started running one-shots on Roll20

I'll be looking for the JC stuff.

  14. I've enjoyed playing RQG on Roll20.  I've run 2 one-shots, I've got an ongoing campaign I'm running, and am playing in another.

If by abrupt response you mean negative, I don't agree.  I've found the sheet to make many things really easy.  For example, you can set it up so that in combat, one click on a button, and it rolls your chance to hit, evaluates the result, rolls damage based on a normal, special or critical success( whatever you got ), and rolls hit location.  It's not perfect, but since it was created by a volunteer, I'm not going to complain. Of course, it does require that the sheet be set up and used correctly.  I've put together a help file for the sheet.  Here's a link:

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/10xGE1V_Mkd_WCUrW5LumAm0tJS6evfgC/view?usp=sharing

I've got a Plus membership, which lets me  take advantage of Dynamic Lighting, which I think is great, if you can devote the time to set up the maps correctly.  It's not difficult, but it can be a bit tedious.  But once you do,  the players the players only see the portion of the map that has light, and is in their character tokens line of sight.

Could it be better?  Of course.  If Chaosium would officially support RQG on Roll20, like they do Call of Cthulu, I'm sure many really cool things could get built in support.  It may be that, after they see how  CoC on Roll20 works out, RQG might follow.

Do you need it?  No, you can run a game with nothing more than Discord or Google Hangouts, or some other way for the group to communicate.  Just take a look at the Chaosium house campaign( The White Bull Campaign ) that Jeff Richards is running.  You can find the sessions on Chaosium's YouTube channel.  They stream it on Twitch, and, from what I've seen of it so far( I've watched the first 2 sessions ),  it's mostly theater of the mind.

Would I rather run/play a face-to-face game.  Heck Yeah!   Am I likely to be able to do so( since, as I mentioned above, I live in the middle of freakin' nowhere )? Nope.

Hope all that helped.  Let me know if you have any other questions

I absolutely don't understand people who just use voice-chat only, it's not like anybody ever ran RPG adventures over the phone before. The couple times I tried it (as a player) I was noticeably less focused and engaged, and it didn't seem like I was the only one.

Some of us live in the middle of freaking nowhere, and have crap internet.  Video is no good if you don't have the bandwidth for it.
