  1. I've been soooo waiting for sooo long for this to be released. I hope it won't take long. I've seen the book and it is the most beautiful CoC book I have ever seen. If it is taking too long, I'll have to get the spanish PDF and translate it myself somehow 🙂 I'd prefer an official one of course. Will you leave the art / layout mostly intact? It is really good looking.

    2. because self entitled whiny brats didn’t get their way.

OK, now this is going too far. Insulting people because you don't see it the way they do? I don't mind if people like something. I don't mind is people dislike something / voice critique. But telling others off because they dislike something? Then make fun of them as well? That's going too far.

And then cheering for censorship (wherever it is coming from, it might have really been fanboys reporting comments they don't like) is another level...

To be clear, Chaosium cannot just delete things from the discussion thread for an item on DTRPG. It's not available as an option. Publishers are given two options: they can respond to a comment, or they can flag it as "inappropriate". Items flagged as inappropriate are reviewed by DTRPG admin and they decide what will be done. The only other avenue for deleting a comment would be to email DTRPG customer service/admin and make a deletion request, but once again, what happens is decided by DTRPG, not the publisher. We have no access to any sort of change/revision/deletion log of the discussion, so I have no way of knowing what was potentially deleted by DTRPG admins.

I might not have seen / read all of those comments, but the ones I've seen were not inappropriate in any way, only critical. Later even comments mentioning that comments have been deleted were deleted.

  4. Hahhh, and now they've even removed my latest comment. So much for not deleting comments. It seems that Chaosium is afraid of the truth and wants to hide the whole affair. This is the worst reaction a company can have. They could have handled it so easily though. Politely answering the comments, changing the description to make sure no one has false expectations (and mentioning that they have been updated). They choose the arrogant way. I'm not sure I can be a part of this anymore.

To the best of my knowledge, the only comments deleted were those discussing issues that were no longer current and had been corrected.

No, that's not true. These were comments discussing the same thing I was mentioning here and there. That the marketing texts makes it looks like it takes Coc and RoL into account, even though it doesn't.

But even if these were comments discussing fixed errors, deleting them is the lowest thing you can do. Why not simply comment that it has been fixed? But as I mentioned, most of these comments were about the content.

  6. I'm pretty disappointed about what is happening on DriveThruRPG. You are deleting comments discussing the product and the (maybe not even intentional) false marketing. Up until now I was just disappointed about the product and decided that I probably won't buy the hardcover. Now, I'm disappointed in the whole affair, this is throwing bad light on Chaosium itself. I'm thinking about asking for a refund on PDF as well.

  7. Although this seems to be a quality release as usual, I'm a bit disappointed by the content and where it seems to be evolving to (or not). I was hoping this to build on CoC7 and Rivers of London and offer different options. I'm not interested in self-publishing I was hoping for BRP to be a collection of optional rules on top of a setting neutral BRP system.

The biggest shock is, that the default character creation is based on rolling, which I find extremely archaic. I would have nothing against a character rolling option, but I don't like having it as default. RoL has point buy as default, and I was hoping for CoC to evolve into these more modern directions as well. If BRP is any indication of that, it won't. Also, the point buy method seems to me more complex than the one used in CoC.

Also, I don't see any of the RoL option within here. A more condensed set of Sklill and Attributes (as an option), it's simplified combat system (as an option) would have been great to see there. I'm actually considering using a modification of RoL (the system, not the setting) to use for CoC, but BRP won't be any help there.

I have only skimmed it so far, so I might have missed some of this, but my first impression seem to indicate the above.

  8. I've received it today, and it looks great (as always). I especially like that the handouts are not included again in the back, and that they are only provided as a downloads. That's just a waste of paper if you ask me. While the handouts in this are generally quite easy to read, I wish you'd include plain text one's (that are even better to print).

I wish you'd include single-page pre-gens in the book though, as you did with Petersen's Abominations. I like that approach.

Another thing I miss is that there are no Pulp options included (at least where it makes sense), but you probably didn't want to extend the existing scenarios that much. I hope we'll see them in future releases though.

Since I am trying to bundle several physical orders together to save on shipping, I am wondering if I buy the PDF now, will I get a coupon to redeem against the physical book later. Chaosium was doing that previously but I am not sure if it is still the case.

I'd wait for official confirmation from Chaosium if I were you. I think they only did this for pre-orders, but they don't do pre-orders anymore.

And grognards really grumble when a big announcement is made for a much broader audience. Sure we all knew what was going on, but we have had nearly 100k people view the twitter announcement, and some 30k people have watched the video between FB, Twitter, and YT. That is a tremendous boost to RQ.

I was one those people following the teasers and watching the video. I was still hoping till the end that it won't be RuneQuest related 😛

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for all the RuneQuest fans that they get these many books. I was simply expecting this not be a "simple" RuneQuest releases, not even a CoC release, because what would be that big about them? We know that RQ and CoC releases will be coming. I was either expecting a new CoC edition (or at least new printing of the core books with the current layout), but mostly something else, like a new, much bigger BRP core book, maybe a new setting, or a collaboration (even if not with Paizo). Those would have been big for my understanding. I think communicating it beforehand that this will be a big RuneQuest announcement would have made it easier for a lot of us 🙂

There are plans for at least one collection of UK-based scenarios.

Great to hear that. I prefer to have adventures / adventure campaigns for new settings to help me get into them. In this case I haven't read the novels yet (it's on my to-read list now, but that list is pretty long and I don't have as much time to read as I used to have), so they will definitely help.

  12. I only had the chance to skim the PDF. The first impression is positive. The design / layout does not seem as sophisticated as your usual Call of Cthulhu releases, and I don't like every piece of art, but it's somewhere between OK to good, so that is fine 🙂 What I really dislike however are the Mr Punch images next to every boxed text (if the is the correct expression) and there are a lot of those! They make the whole look less sophisticated.

  13. If I remember correctly, you mentioned something about talking about the future releases once the RoL has been officially unveiled.

Can you already tell us what products are in the pipeline, other than the "USA supplement"? Are there any adventures, adventure collections or adventure campaigns planned? I'm all open for setting / rules supplements, but what I'm really interested is are adventures 🙂

Also to note, that for a while now we have releasing newer books with PDF download packs that include "player friendly" version maps (without text etc). Some of the older books don't have these in the PDF packs, but where possible we will aim to do so for new editions and so on. Thanks

Did you just confirm, that a new edition / printing of the main books is coming? 😉

  15. Ok, so something is happening in this regard. Shadowlands has now an English website: https://shadowlandsgames.com/

They are about to crowdfund two (non-CoC) products on Kickstarter. I asked on Twitter whether they plan to translate their CoC scenarios, and the answer was "We'd love to!" I hope this happens soon, as their scenarios sound interesting.
