  1. That's a beautiful map! I like a lot the balance between the graphic "simplicity" and the quantity of information it conveys. I notice a small point that bothers me slightly as my own Arfritha Vale sourcebook is now 99% ready to hit the JC: I gathered from previous publications, for instance TCS, that the Frithan territory was on the East (or right) bank of the Boranini, while this map put their main settlement on the West (or left) bank. Obviously, YGMV and all that kind of thing and TCS is not canonical for RQG, but I would like to know if, beyond that, this point mirrors an in-game, historical evolution, something like an extension of Frithan territory or a migration, for instance the clan joining the Malani, or something like that? Could you enlighten me? Thanks!
  2. @jajagappa That's a brilliant text! I guess you spent time on this fellow, but still! Impressive! chapeau bas, as we say!
  3. Ah, Jajagappa is also a favourite of mine!!! @jajagappa I use a slightly more benign version: Jajagappa tears the soul from the dead flesh, but then, keeping it in its maw, he runs to the Courts of Silence, effectively protecting the souls from interception attempts by all sorts of demons along the way. A little bit like a hunting dog bringing back dead fowl to the hunter.
  4. I am sure many Lhankor Mhy analysts make a good living from the scions of Eurmali father and Cat Witch mother! This is stuff for at least three Heroquestanalysis sessions a week!
  5. Thanks! That's exactly what I wanted to know. So a lot of social strategies that could offer a way out but basically liable to outlawry.
  6. Yes, once more I agree. It is a very interesting idea that such children conceived during a religious festival could be considered as scions of spiritual/divine beings. But, fundamentally, once more we are circling around my question; I am concerned (for a scenario building purpose) about more mundane, daily issuee. Maniskis from Highstead frolicking with Adessa of Widestead. Natural things potentially leading to social problems. Or more as exemplified by the Last Days of Skullpoint. Of course, everybody could pretend to believe that Adessa and Maniskis' child was in fact conceived by the mother during a fertility holy days. That would a socially acceptable solution in most case I guess?
  7. Thanks Jeff, I understand and I agree that such children must be relatively frequent, hence my interest; but my question is about the incest dimension of such birth. It doesn't create any kind of problem at all? Should we think that fertility festival creates some kind of special magical circumstances?
  8. Thanks everybody! Many answers mainly focused on the "out of wedlock" part while I was more interested in the "from the same clan" part. I thought the clans were exogamous, and as such I specified "out of wedlock" just as a consequence of the main point. But @lordabdul rightly pointed out that the clan is only "largely exogamous". So, in a way I should rephrase my question asking about children born from two persons of the same bloodline, that is effectively born from incest. Thanks @jajagappa for the information about Last Days of Skullpoint, I will check this scenario now. As far as "practical solutions devised by the law-speaker" @Sir_Godspeed has offered a whole-range of very sensible paths which could provide very interesting gaming opportunities while pointing out that one of the main concern is patrimonial. I also like a lot @Jape_Vicho 's suggestion that the child could be initiated in a cult cutting all social ties, but initiation happens quite late in life and it also raises the interesting question of the possibility to forcefully initiate someone in a cult if his initiation has not hinted that he was favored/claimed by the god in question. @jajagappathanks for pointing out the Last Days of Skullpoint. It is a very, very good scenario, albeit terrifying. And put my OP into a whole new light!
  9. Behind this cryptic title, one "simple" question: Orlanthi clans are exogamic. In your opinion, what happens to children born not only out of wedlock but from two members of the same clan? What would be their status? Could they be considered as strangers and then adopted by someone into the clan? Let the Law-speakers in you rise to the challenge!
  10. Now THAT is a real HeroQuest! Will the POD offer the option of an acid-proof cover?
  11. A friend of mine had a very interesting experience in Africa. He was visiting an animist village and was introduced to his guide, who happened to be have a very "Old testament" name while no one else had such name in the village. So he asked about his choice and the guy answered that when he was young he was given the snake as a totem. But later, one of his uncle had cooked some snake inadvertently making him eat his totem, an absolute taboo. So in order to avoid the rightful wrath of snake, the family run to the nearest mission, which happened to be Protestant, and had him baptized to get him out of snake's spiritual turf.
  12. And that's why Zzabur is banned from all RPG forums!
  13. The Stafford's Library Books Revealed Mythologies and The Middle Sea Empire seem the best place to begin the various SAN rolls.
  14. That is a VERY telling analogy, thanks! (The only difference would be that ships existed before the Closing. So, in a way, more like Democracy for Early Modern people, maybe?) However, I must say that my own feeling is very much like Jeorg's. Some Celts' for instance were maritime people, but it is not the first thing coming to mind when one thinks about Celts*. It is like geeks; Many are married but the BBT's depiction of the comic books store is still pretty convincing. * I know Orlanthi are not Celts, don't worry, that's not my point, here.
  15. White elves should do the trick! A nice HQ to go find a seed and then begin a plantation around your trader prince's house...
  16. Very daring traders can always raid the Ivory plinth...
  17. Well, no one ever specified the color of the cristal, maybe it is black cristal... a city built from the spolia of Akez Loradak?! And thanks for the explanation about the chain, this is all I love in Glorantha, every detail is so well thought!
  18. @jajagappa Can you tell us more about Black Esrola? Is she Esrola as consort of Argan Argar? And another question: on your beautiful map of Nochet, the chain is very high in the estuary of the river and seems to protect the harbour area more from ships coming down the Lyksos than coming from the sea. If I am right, what is the danger coming from upriver? Or is the chain a way to forbid entry upriver to sea vessels in order to insure that all trade will be done in Nochet?
  19. Congratulations!! How many copies make for Best Copper Seller?
  20. When I read this, I immediately envisioned the huge accumulation of earth, branches and other flotsam all along the circumference of the wind stop area as the hurricanes carrying the debris brutally stop and drop them on the "border".
  21. Well, this is such stuff / As dreams are made on!
  22. Just downloaded it, it is splendid work! Congratulations! I like to read scenarios and setting but I nearly never play them, preferring to cannibalize things for my own settings, but this could be the exception! And the second volume is still by favorite gloranthan scenario!
  23. I confess I was never really interested in the West, but this book could convert me! Of course the art is splendid (the Pralori mercenary, p. 139 may be my favourite!) but the text is also a gold mine of information! Let's hope future canon books will build on this one!
  24. Congratulations!! And many thanks for the beautiful work!
  25. Ah!! That's nice! In the current version of IaMGV, Storn also plays a part, as the faction favorable to the re-creation of the old Triarchy is looking for a new wyter and put an option on Orgovale! If you want, I wrote a scenario in Prax. It is about a locust invasion and the foundation of the White Bull society! As you read French you could try it! Just don't post it elsewhere, it is my next JC project.
