  1. Things are happening in Yellow Flats in the Arizona Territory. A group of prisoners has recently escaped when something strange was found in the mine they were working in. Then, a drifter comes to town. On February 25, I ran the first official session of the Down Darker Trails campaign. "The Evil Gun" by Kevin A. Ross with Lynn Willis from Blood Brothers 2 was the first session of The Catastrophe Engine campaign and saw a large group of investigators meeting in Yellow Flats for various reasons. The role playing journals of the game session can be found here: http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3287-the-evil-gun-part-1-strange-times-in-yellow-flats/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3286-the-evil-gun-part-2-the-drifter-comes-to-town/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3285-the-evil-gun-part-3-walking-corpses-and-the-bank-robbery/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3284-the-evil-gun-part-4-dealing-with-the-drifter/ Additionally, a playlist of eight videos and a highlights video of the game session can be found here: “https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLonZ7fuFAFDpvdiBhLXVJ3DXBKEwAKzat” Players were: John Leppard as Lambert Otto (gunslinger) Collin Townsend as Wilder (mountain man) Yorie Latimer as Brandon Stalloid (scholar) Austin Davie as Father Peter Bishop (Catholic Priest) Kyle Matheson as Clayton Pierce (Federal marshal) James Brown as Jack West (gunslinger) Ashton LeBlanc as Eva Weisswald (physician) Ben Abbott as Jacali (Apache scout) Ambralyn Tucker as Gemma Jones (singer)
  2. Question: owning handcuffs or shackles has come up in the game as some of the characters are bounty hunters. One thing I can't find on any of the numerous equipment lists in various Old West games or online are a price for handcuffs or shackles. I'm probably going to fake it at $5 though I have no idea. Anyone know of any resources for the cost in 1875? Or a rough estimate or guess?
  3. When John Valentine and his gang escape from a prison train taking them to San Francisco, four people meet to try to figure out who helped him. It leads them to valley in the Nevada hills and terrible things. On February 18, I ran the prologue to the upcoming Down Darker Trails campaign. Ill Met in the West was a short scenario to start out The Catastrophe Engine campaign and sees the first strangeness in American West of 1875. The role playing journal of the game session can be found here: http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3283-ill-met-in-the-west/ Additionally, a playlist of four videos and a highlights video of the game session can be found here: “https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLonZ7fuFAFDqKKLGRXJiBzdRoSns5Ezo5” Players were: Collin Townsend as Wilder (mountain man) Ashton LeBlanc as Eva Weisswald (physician) Yorie Latimer as Brandon Stalloid (scholar) Ben Abbott as Jacali (Apache scout)
  4. Tommy Hill is a vampire. Morris Vanzant is a vampire. Christopher St. Jordan, the outsider, is probably behind it all. Can a group of 15-year-olds stave off the plague of vampirism that is sweeping the tiny town of Sanguis, Alabama, in the summer of 1929? Or will they be too late? On February 11, I ran the third and final session of the original Call of Cthulhu one-shot “What Rough Beast …” Role playing journals of the game can be found here: http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3281-what-rough-beast-session-three-part-1-tommy-hill-returns/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3280-what-rough-beast-session-three-part-2-billys-the-best/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3279-what-rough-beast-session-three-part-3-bennett-farm-murder/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3278-what-rough-beast-session-three-part-4-the-attic-massacre/ Additionally, a playlist of eight videos of the game session and a highlights video tomorrow can be found here: “https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLonZ7fuFAFDrhGI-KOHRwHnnrvEsrnZuo” Players were: Kyle Matheson as Theodore "Teddy" Sanderson (future author) Austin Davie as Michael Slayton (future boxer/wrestler) John Leppard as Richard Messer (future military officer) Yorie Latimer as Billy Hicks (future gangster) Ambralyn Tucker as Ella-Marie Slayton (future athlete) Ben Abbott as Jebediah Pleasant (future antique dealer)
  5. As the youngsters of Sanguis continue their investigation, their suspicions that the town is being preyed upon by a vampire become stronger. Unfortunately, the blight seems to be spreading quickly. On January 28, I ran the second session of the original one-shot Call of Cthulhu scenario "What Rough Beast ..." Role Playing Journals of the game can be found here: http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3275-what-rough-beast-session-two-part-1-in-search-of-vampires/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3274-what-rough-beast-session-two-part-2-billy-holds-a-grudge/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3273-what-rough-beast-session-two-part-3-exhuming-tommy-hill/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3272-what-rough-beast-session-two-part-4-death-in-the-darkness/ Additionally, a playlist of 11 videos and a highlights video can be found here: “https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLonZ7fuFAFDoRRsMcSq_Cttq_7y0IlPMO” Players were: Austin Davie as Michael Slayton (future boxer/wrestler) John Leppard as Richard Messer (future military officer) Yorie Latimer as Billy Hicks (future gangster) Ambralyn Tucker as Ella-Marie Slayton (future athlete) Ben Abbott as Jebediah Pleasant (future antique dealer)
  6. When a sick young boy goes missing from the tiny northern Alabama town of Sanguis, the other children in town set out to find him. What they find, instead, is death and horror. Something has come to the town and is preying upon its citizens. On January 21, 2018, I ran an original Call of Cthulhu one-shot called "What Rough Beast ..." for my regular Call of Cthulhu group. The role-playing journals for the session can be found here: http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3271-what-rough-beast-session-one-part-1-the-sick-child/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3270-what-rough-beast-session-one-part-2-the-disappearance-of-tommy-hill/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3269-what-rough-beast-session-one-part-3-the-haunted-plantation/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3268-what-rough-beast-session-one-part-4-funeral-for-a-friend/ Additionally, a playlist of nine videos of the game session (and a highlights video tomorrow) can be found here: “https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLonZ7fuFAFDoPXkoaM3awONoXWRb4dV5z” Players were: Kyle Matheson as Theodore "Teddy" Sanderson (future author) Austin Davie as Michael Slayton (future boxer/wrestler) John Leppard as Richard Messer (future military officer) Yorie Latimer as Billy Hicks (future gangster) Ambralyn Tucker as Ella-Marie Slayton (future athlete) Ben Abbott as Jebediah Pleasant (future antique dealer)
  7. I'm planning on calling my campaign "The Catastrophe Engine." I'm going to borrow somewhat from The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. and put that story arc around the Old West scenarios I've been gathering together. The main villain will be John Valentine.
  8. I'd forgotten about The Running Death. I thought I had a copy of the pdf somewhere but can't figure out what I did with it. I'll be referring to Aces & Eights a bit and plan to use the train maps for Trouble on the Sequoya Star at some point. I own all of the supplements as I spent several Origins and Gen Cons working the Kenzerco booth.
  9. Thanks. Adios A-Migo is actually an old Deadlands dime novel scenario. I should have been more specific. It's here: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/16599/Deadlands-Dime-Novel-Adios-AMiGo?it=1 I've got to sit down and figure out where to start. I think I'm going to start my own campaign in 1870 as it's close enough to the Civil War that investigators can have the choice of having fought in that conflict. Otherwise ... I've got nothing so far. I will, though.
  10. I plan to run a Down Darker Trails campaign starting sometime in January. I've been collecting old west/wild west scenarios and such for some time as I usually run different settings during the summer (it's been limited to Dark Ages, Elizabethan, Jacobean (Pirates), and American Revolution to date) and wanted to run some old west ever since I got Worlds of Cthulhu #2 with rules for making up such characters. I don't have a plan or a campaign planned out yet, though I've been watching The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. for some kind of inspiration and love the over-arcing "Orb" storyline, though I figure it would be cool if the orb were some kind of information/energy device crafted by the Yithians. Still working on that idea. Here are some other Wild West scenarios I've found though: Worlds of Cthulhu #2: Call of Cthulhu in the Wild West and The Hunt for Kid Richter Worlds of Cthulhu #3: The Golden Scorpion Worlds of Cthulhu #6: Sunset at Sandy Gulch Dragon Magazine #46: This Here's Tyrannosaurus Tex (ideas for dinosaurs) Blood Brothers 2: The Evil Gun Night of the Kachina monograph containing three scenarios Adios-A-Migo Sundown (online scenario) Horror on Two Forks Trail (online scenario) If you're looking for interesting maps (and nice mini-games for running trials and a few other things) Aces & Eights has both.
  11. For anyone interested in reading some of my older rpg journals, I've started a patreon page. I'll be uploading a couple of pdfs of old journals a week (three for those willing to spend $3 a month). If you have an interest, please check it out. https://www.patreon.com/user?u=3893556&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=creatorshare
  12. It's time to figure out exactly what's going on and end the evil of the Sunless Citadel. Here we go! On November 20, the Pathfinder game concluded as the adventurers made a final push to end the evil of the place. The role playing journal for the sixth and last session of The Sunless Citadel is here: http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/entry.php/1989-Pathfinder-The-Sunless-Citadel-6-An-End-to-It Players were: Jacob Marcus (DM) Myself as Iago (human mage) Katelyn Hogan as Argie (wyvaran cleric) Victoria Larson as Caterina (human brawler) Justin Moser as Brook (human ranger)
  13. After a little more exploring in the Sunless Citadel, the adventurers return to Oakhurst to find another party of adventurers there. What could this mean for our heroes? Then it's back to experiment with evil apple seeds. On November 13, the Pathfinder game continued as the adventurers met new folks and dealt with old. The role playing journal for the fifth session of The Sunless Citadel is here: http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/entry.php/1987-Pathfinder-The-Sunless-Citadel-5-A-Giant-Rat-and-New-Arrivals Players were: Jacob Marcus (DM) Myself as Iago (human mage) Katelyn Hogan as Argie (wyvaran cleric) Victoria Larson as Caterina (human brawler)
  14. Having investigated Nyarlathotep, one of the investigators thinks he has a lead: a man in the Appalachian Mountains of Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, something happens on the way there. On November 12, I ran the new 7th Edition Call of Cthulhu group with an original scenario to end out the semester and the short campaign: "The Lurker in Tunnel 13." The role playing journals of the game session are here: http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3263-the-lurker-in-tunnel-13-part-1-lost-in-pennsylvania/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3262-the-lurker-in-tunnel-13-part-2-unanswered-questions/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3261-the-lurker-in-tunnel-13-part-3-the-trap-is-sprung/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3260-the-lurker-in-tunnel-13-part-4-escape-or-destruction/ Additionally, a playlist of 12 videos of the game session and a highlights video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLonZ7fuFAFDrhD2tiI_vwb7tH9ahc2PEj Players were: John Leppard as James Cloverfield (dilettante) Jacob Marcus as Marco Pavil (soldier) Austin Davie as James Wallin (lumberjack) Katelyn Hogan as Edna Petrov (nurse)
  15. On the Anime Earth in the capitol of the planet, Tyrandar, the king of the world is hosting a tournament to select his next chief butler or maid. We're all contestants, trying to win the coveted position. On November 10, Kyle ran a BRP game one-shot in a unique setting, an anime-type world filled with people of all kinds. The role playing journal for the game is here: http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/entry.php/1986-Basic-Roleplaying-System-Maid-Tournament Players were: Kyle Matheson - GM Hannah Gambino as Danny Devito (troll) Ashton LeBlanc as Megumi Hevita (half waifu/half snake) Collin Townsend as JoJoHo (chimpanzee) Ambralyn Tucker as Anna May (purple woman) Katelyn Hogan as Nyancy (cat woman) Ben Abbott as Tonio Trussardi (alien from the planet Italy) James Brown as Reginald Thistleton (slenderman) Katie Gallant as Stanley Stanwick (human) Yorie Latimer as Ivana Goodtime (Russian) Myself as Igor Hastur (human)
  16. With a return to the Sunless Citadel, the party heads off to rescue the lost dragon, deal with the goblins, and find an ancient and yet-alive dragon priest. On October 30, the Pathfinder game continued as the adventurers negotiated with some and battled others. The role playing journal for the third session of The Sunless Citadel is here: http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/entry.php/1985-Pathfinder-The-Sunless-Citadel-4-Goblin-Talks-and-Dragon-Priest Players were: Jacob Marcus (DM) Myself as Iago (human mage) Justin Moser as Brook (human ranger) Katelyn Hogan as Argie (wyvaran cleric) Victoria Larson as Catarina (human brawler)
  17. Great Grandpa Silas has the best Halloween parties and the Lovecraft Country Cousins all enjoy them more than anything. But something goes terribly wrong during the party in 1928 and it's up to the children to save their parents and grandparents before the night is through. On October 29, I ran the call of Cthulhu scenario "Halloween in Dunwich" by Oscar Rios from the Halloween Horror Monograph as a Halloween one-shot. The role playing journals of the game session are here: http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3258-halloween-in-dunwich-part-1-great-grandpa-silass-farm/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3257-halloween-in-dunwich-part-2-research-and-preparations/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3256-halloween-in-dunwich-part-3-dangerous-journey/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3255-halloween-in-dunwich-part-4-the-witch-of-altar-rock/ Additionally, a playlist of five videos and a highlights video can be found here: “https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLonZ7fuFAFDoErgf0HZ-Zfa-ujX6WUMzW” Players were: Collin Townsend as Gordon Brewster Ashton LeBlanc as Gertrude "Girdie" Pope Ben Abbott as Edward Derby Ambralyn Tucker as Alice Sanders Katelyn Hogan as Donald Sutton
  18. When the small film company Tenebris Studio decides to send some actors, the director, and a producer to do location shots in Houston, Texas, they're able to book a Learjet fairly cheaply. Unfortunately, there's a much higher cost for those who get trapped within. On October 28, I ran the original Call of Cthulhu scenario Fear Jet 1972 at the Appalachian State University Gaming Club Gamefest. The roleplaying journals of the session are here: http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3252-fear-jet-1972-part-1-terror-flight/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3251-fear-jet-1972-part-2-lost-in-carcosa/ Additionally, a playlist of six videos of the game session and a highlights video can be found here: ‘https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLonZ7fuFAFDpY6D-fySR1ZruU0Qk_46zA’ Players were: Ryan Jones as Dennis Wrinkle (director) Kyle Lewis as Sandra Denning (actress) Abbie Waite as Janice Wyse (actress) Xavier De Leon as Sandy Trix (actress) Jonathon Griffith as Vic Johnson (actor) Kurt Klesser as Carl Smalley (producer)
  19. Dealing with kobolds and goblins, each in their own way, is tricky. Of course, talking to the kobolds while murdering the goblins SEEMS to be working. On October 23, the Pathfinder game continued as the adventurers negotiated with some and battled others. The role playing journal for the third session of The Sunless Citadel is here: http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/entry.php/1984-Pathfinder-The-Sunless-Citadel-3-Kobold-Politics Players were: Jacob Marcus (DM) Myself as Iago (human mage) Justin Moser as Brook (human ranger) Katelyn Hogan as Argie (wyvaran cleric)
  20. Having scouted out the crevice and learned all they can in the village of Oakhurst, the adventurers meet a new traveler in the village and eventually she joins their group. Then they enter the great ravine that holds The Sunless Citadel. On October 9, the Pathfinder game continued as our adventurers finally head for the dungeon. The role playing journal for the second session of The Sunless Citadel is here: http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/entry.php/1983-Pathfinder-The-Sunless-Citadel-2-Entering-the-Crevice Players were: Jacob Marcus (DM) Myself as Iago (human mage) Justin Moser as Brook (human ranger) Katelyn Hogan as Argie (wyvaran cleric) Victoria Larson as Caterina (human brawler)
  21. When one of the investigators asks another to come to New York City to visit, neither expect it will lead them to the mob and the supernatural. On October 1, I ran the new 7th Edition Call of Cthulhu group with an old, 6th Edition scenario: Dead Man Stomp. The role playing journals of the game session are here: http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3243-dead-man-stomp-part-1-the-unusual-trumpet/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3242-dead-man-stomp-part-2-the-dead-will-rise/ Additionally, a playlist of six videos of the game session is here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLonZ7fuFAFDrtTqck5aCpfXVkJ63b09d0 Players were: Austin Davie as Deryl Wallin (mechanic) John Leppard as James Cloverfield (dilettante)
  22. Three adventurers arrive in the village of Oakhurst, each for their own reasons. But danger lurks in the seeds of the locally-grown magical apples. Will they figure it out in time to save themselves? I'm playing another game, this one Pathfinder. We just started The Sunless Citadel. The role-playing journals for the first session of The Sunless Citadel can be found here: http://www.penandpapergames.com/forums/entry.php/1982-Pathfinder-The-Sunless-Citadel-1-The-Many-Mysteries-of-Oakhurst Players were: Jacob Marcus (DM) Myself as Iago (human mage) Justin Moser as Brook (human mage) Katelyn Hogan as Argie (wyvaran cleric)
  23. The investigators have arrived in Louisiana, more or less safe, and head off to Terrebonne Parish to investigate the strange disappearances there and the possible wildcatting going on. What terrors will they find? On September 24, 2017, the regular 1920s Providence campaign continued with "Dog Will Hunt" from The Unspeakable Oath #18. The role-playing journals for the game session are here: http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3241-dog-will-hunt-part-1-murder-in-montegut/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3240-dog-will-hunt-part-2-suspicions-and-swamp-search/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3239-dog-will-hunt-part-3-night-of-terror/ Additionally, a playlist of 11 videos and a highlights video is here: “https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLonZ7fuFAFDrex67LsGLVzT54gyjb60vx” Players were: Yorie Latimer as Spencer DeLuve (photographer) James Brown as Griffin McCree (big game hunter) Ben Abbott as Joell Johnson (union activist)
  24. When a lawyer in Bristol, Connecticut, asks a small group of people to investigate a house in Sandisfield, Massashusetts, assessing the valuables there, it seems like an easy way to make some money. But there is something more to this case of declaring a man legally dead. Something is terribly wrong at this house. On September 17, I ran a small group of mixed regular players and new players in my first 7th Edition game of Call of Cthulhu. The 1920s game (and possible short campaign) started with the scenario "The Inheritance" from the monograph Horror Stories from the Red Room. The role playing journals of the game are here: http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3237-the-inheritance-part-1-presumed-dead/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3236-the-inheritance-part-2-the-strange-clarke-house/ http://www.yog-sothoth.com/blog/172/entry-3235-the-inheritance-part-3-an-end-to-it/ Additionally, a playlist of eight videos of the game session and a highlights video can be found here: “https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLonZ7fuFAFDqlScpHBjFe1DUFUFgzBRcs” Players were: John Leppard as James Cloverfield (dilettante) Jacob Marcus as Marco Pavil (soldier) Austin Davie as Deryl Wallin (mechanic) Ambralyn Tucker as Elaine Chatwick (shopkeeper/milliner) Katelyn Hogan as Edna Petrov (nurse)
