  1. You could pre-order the Starter Set edition from both Chaosium and one's local game store for several weeks prior to its actual publication. One supposes a similar possibility would be on offer for 6th edition once the actual publication date is set.
  2. I think you got lots of really good answers, above. But one thing about the various supplements. My understanding is that only the 6th ed Starter Set is due out this year. So whether or not the various supplements will eventually be replaced by something else is not really relevant right now if you intend to play the game this year. Thus, if the older supplements contain stuff you need this year, consider buying them in PDF or something and using them until 6th edition compatible replacements are available a few years from now (if ever). Most of the material will work perfectly, others not so well. The main things is to watch out for are relative strengths of the NPCs and PCs (most 1st edition Round Table knights have very low stats - i.e. Sword 14, 4d6 damage, 8 points of Armor - and can be easily beaten by 5.2 edition newly-knighted characters with Sword 20 and 6d6 damage) and money/costs which fluctuate between editions.
  3. I agree with Tenchi, above. I play with a bunch of engineers who would min-max their characters if I let them 🙂 Thus, we roll all characteristics and attributes. Roleplaying is not about having the perfect hero character but rather about having a character with failings you cannot influence but must incorporate into your playing.
  4. Your knight is from somewhere. My guess is that his kin are vassals of the same lord that your knight owes allegiance to.
  5. As I remember the rules are very similar. I don't think there's anything that you couldn't reconcile once you have the 5.2 rulebook. Just generate the characters and worry about conversion later.
  6. What a great use of period texts! Fantastic! Thanks 🙂
  7. There is very, very little. The Heart Blade main lady protagonist is from Wuerensis and the forest and her lands are discussed a bit. In GPC: County of WUERENSIS WUERENSIS: A county on the upper Avon River, it includes the cities of Warwick and Kinetown. Culture/Religion: Cymric/British Christian and Pagan Wuerensis is a borderland kingdom of mixed Pagans and Christians. They exhibit great religious tolerance, and mistrust anyone who exhibits any strong religious tendencies. Places Kenilworth Castle is a small castle. Kineton is a stop along the King's Road, and the road north from it leads to Warwick. Warwick (See own entry) Arden Forest: A forest north and west of Wuerensis, forming one of the borders of Logres. Most of it is in Cambria. 495: Arden Forest: Arden Forest fills the area between Wuerensis (on the Avon River), Galvoie (on the Severn) and Cameliard (on the Trent.) Avon River: Three Avon rivers appear on this map. 1. A tributary to the Severn River that goes through Wuerensis. 2. Main drainage for Salisbury, navigable by boat from near Sarum south to the sea. 3. A river in Somerset navigable from Bath north to the sea. Kinetown: This is a castle on the Royal Road in Wuerensis; a regular road leads from here to nearby Warwick: This is the primary city of the County of Wuerensis. Warwick, city [Wuerensis, Logres] Culture/Religion: Cymric/British Christian Warwick is a beautiful city protected by a castle. The city is located on the north side of the Avon River. Rulers Ruler: City Council Vassal of: Lord of Wuerensis Events: 502: The messenger from King Nanteleod brings word that Gloucester, Orofoise, Galvoie, Cheshire, Cameliard, and Wuerensis have all agreed to submit to him as vassals. 512: While Arthur was campaigning in Cumbria, King Lot and King Ryons led an army to plunder many unprotected Cambrian lands: Cameliard, Lambor, Wuerensis, and Escavalon. 518: Wuerensis is raided 556: Wuerensis is raided Rulers Ruler: Earl Artgualchar of Wuerensis Vassal of: Arthur Pendragon My players have lands in north-eastern Escavalon so Wuerensis is just next door. I'm going to have to make a detailed map of the place at some point.
  8. No, Merlin would not have voted for Brexit. As a genius he would realize that importing humongous prehistoric stone monuments from Ireland to Britain would be extremely difficult and costly post-Brexit with customs and handling fees etc.
  9. I stole the patron saints system and transplanted it in my Pendragon campaign 🙂 Also some other systems 🙂
  10. I own just about every single (English language) Pendragon book and supplement and edition. And somewhere in there is the three-paragraph adventure where the knight has to spend a night in the perilous bed, or something like that - as in Parzifal, but now I can't find it. Any pointers?
  11. This would be a good opportunity to foreshadow future scenarios and have player characters see or even meet prominent NPCs who feature in them. So for example they'll meet the young Sir Bercelak in 492 and that way when they 20 whatever years later meet the old Sir Bercelak in his castle you can remind them of meeting him here. This gives world more depth - there are recurring NPCs living their lives.
  12. Prince Valiant also fights a ferocious dragon in one Foster story which turns out to be a giant corocodile. And then there's a story where a haunted Black Tower or some such cursed ruin turns out to be not haunted but inhabited by the vengeful daughter of a murdered lord.
  13. Thanks for the link! I love the comics but didn't realize it was still being continued. Aleta's looks have suffered a bit I see. Over the years I've only used some small encounters from the original Hal Foster series in my Pendragon campaign. But it's been a great inspiration.
  14. The wife of the player knight could also have a Deceitful of 18 and might do bad things behind his back. On hearing of these the knight will have to match his Trust (whomever tells him) vs. his Love (Wife) to believe these rumors.
  15. Note that you can kill off anyone in the campaign by rolling (or claiming to have rolled) on the Book of the Estate Yearly Survival table...
  16. Why not have squire A's knight suffer a major wound or whatever so the squire is out of battle. Then squire B's knight captures an enemy and gives the captive to squire B to take to the rear lines. The captive of course escapes and then the two squires have to re-capture him or face the wrath of the knight. The escapee flees into an old forest/tower/whatever where many dangers lurk.
  17. If you think there are discrepancies between AP 5.2 and the Salisbury map in Warlord, don't obtain the Map Folio book - more headaches!
  18. Other stuff I'd like to see: * Honor awards/penalties listed and explained (what if your squire dies from combat, or sickness, or suicide, do you lose honor etc.) * Clear explanation of when you may/may not use a passion for inspiration (Honor, Loyalty Lord etc.)
  19. I've had this supplement for close to twenty years and, like you, have done nothing with it. The idea of Ireland in the Arthurian age is very inspiring but the supplement is not. Currently I'm thinking that since Ireland is several decades behind the Logres when it comes to chivalry etc. perhaps I could place some unused Uther age scenarios in Ireland. But then I'd need to railroad the player characters into visiting the island...
  20. I'm sure Sir Palomides would have very oriental-looking cats and up north near Dal Riada and Lothian they have many tailless cats
  21. I watched every episode of Lumpkin's campaign on YouTube and it was great. I'll definitely try to follow yours as well. Thanks for sharing.
  22. I too got mine this morning. The Paladin book's production values are sky-high with gilded pages and even an integral bookmark. Very, very nicely done!
