  1. In this thread: * I hash out a campaign concept! * You solicit ideas and feedback! So. I've been playing lots of Skyrim, and this meshes well with my newfound interest in the MRQII/Legend system. I've been reading through the aforementioned, plus Vikings and Age of Treason, and a campaign idea starting to gel together (please note I may end up contradicting Age of Treason 'canon' since I'm not done reading that book yet): My idea is that the Taskan Empire is at the height of its power. The Iron Simulacrum has decreed that the Empire expand into the barbarian north, claiming land and converting the people there to the Imperial cult. Close behind the legions are settlers who have chosen (or been chosen) to settle the new claims and bring the civilization of the Taskan Empire to the northern tribes and clans (aka my pseudo-Vikings). The PCs are such Imperial citizens. They are to act as liaisons between the legions and the local tribes, ensuring that peace (ie Imperial law) is observed, and that sufficient accommodations are made for the new settlers. Of course, things like this are not always black and white, and there are bound to be divided loyalties and secrets aplenty... The second part of this idea is to do away with the Taskan Empire geography as presented in the Age of Treason and instead use some of the geography of Glorantha (thanks to the wonders of photoshop); my plan is to use the geography of Ralios (map) as the Taskan Empire and the geography of Fronela (map) for the barbarian lands. I like the idea of a single mountain pass separating the two regions. The third part, and the most tricky, is that I'd like to use Rune-flavor magic (as presented in MRQII) for the barbarians, and the Rune-less magic (as presented in Legend) for the Taskan Empire. I know that there's really not a whole lot of mechanical difference, so it would mostly be for flavor, but I can foresee some compatibility issues. -- Keeping in mind I'd like to stick as close to the presented Age of Treason canon as possible, my questions are: 1) Does my basic premise violate any part of Age of Treason canon? (You won't be spoiling anything, since I'm reading the book cover to cover). Does Age of Treason touch on any such Germania-style 'northern barbarians'? 2) Is there any major issue with taking the Taskan Empire and putting it in a largely land-locked area? I don't know (yet) if the Taskan Empire has any sort of blue-water navy or relies much on sea trade. If there's a heavy reliance on that sort of thing, I may reconsider using Gloranthan geography. 3) Is there any real reason why MRQII-style magic and Legend-style magic would be incompatible (especially with regard to magic presented in Age of Treason)?
