I admit a couple of these are surprises... Mallia [mother of Disease], Nysalor [the Illuminate], and Seven Mothers.

Nysalor should not be a surprise. Elves have a long and deep connection with this Light cult.

Mallia [mother of Disease] ... she is not always associated with Chaos. I can certainly see elves chosing this cult as a weapon which would threaten meat sacks, but has no effect on plants.

Seven Mothers ... only traitors or Moon Elves (shamless plug here as I am currently working on that supplement for JC)

For the Red Moon, Glamour is a Lunar nymph, but I am not sure whether Yara Aranis might qualify as one.

Our next item in the Holiday Dorastor series deals specifically with Moon Elves. I would be happy to discuss some of the ideas presented there, but not sure if this thread is a right place.

  3. I am totally in agreement with what Nick Brooke said above.  then I was started out, I had the same fears that you are experiencing. I was afraid of stepping on ideas of others as well as being over written by other authors and in some respect of being over ruled by "official" material in some future or by posts here and in FB groups. What I found is totally opposite. The people here and in the Jonstown Compendium Creators Circle (on Facebook) are both incredably supportive in bouncing your idea off as well collaboration. In fact I would highly suggest that you perhaps join with someone on your first publication. I know it has worked for me for seven items.

Would Bristlecone Pine and Giant Redwood Dryads be a bit like Ents ?

In our Holiday Dorastor series we went with the idea that Redwoods do not develop Dryads, but are themselves sentient with abilities and there are Hero Quests that depending how things go could go either way.

For Lifeforce, after reading the description I think that it could use either summon or tap in addition to combine

Combine, maybe. Tap is more of destructive force or implies forceful taking (IMO), which would be appropriate in some situation I guess and for some sorcerers.

What's it combining with? (and why not Command?)

Hard for me to say at the moment (this supplement took way longer than the others. It was 80% done in September of 2021). But my original thought process Would go something like: If the Rune was Death than the technique should be Command since the magic is establishing dominance over the subject, but being spell accepted and used by Aldraymi it is tied to Life and the limitations, or boundries it places on the dead. It therefore constrains and I felt that Combine fit.

This actually brings up a point that I have certainly use in that the same Sorcery Spell can be learned and cast using different Runes and Techniques with pretty much the same result. So Death, Command is just as valid as Fertility, Combine and the version known depends on the source.

  7. Now that the Holiday Dorastor: Woods of Terror is out, I must admit that we added more than the three spells I listed above. Here are the additional ones

    Bramble Wall Plant/Summon
    Defoliate Plant/Death/Tap
    Heal Forest Plant/Fertility/Summon
    Hold Undead Fertility/Combine
    Lifeforce Plant/Fertility/Combine
    Rooted Plant/Magic/Combine
    Ward Against Poison Fertility/Dispel

  8. I have done a number of conversions from "other" games. What I found useful is taking a story line, the maps and main characters; using these, but getting rid off random encounters and various monster variations. The biggest issue is moving these things into a Gloranthan setting and taking out things which do not fit. It is generally easier to convert an encounter, than a whole module.

Issaries/Etyries, where I think it’s reasonable if you get to switch (or share) your Rune Points pool.

I am thinking that Etyries can be worshipped as a subcult of Issaries, or as a seperate cult.

makes sense to be allowed to transfer Rune Points if you go from 7M Collective to individual 7M.

Yes, although it may be advantageous for PC not to do that to bypass the CHA limit on Rune Pools.

God only knows whether it is still canonical but didn't LM and IO share the Jonstown library during the Lunar occupation?

I believe the temple was joinedly occupied  in New Pavis.

We also have Etyries and Issaries sharing their great markets/temples.

Etyries is Issaries' daughter. The link here is actually much stronger than in other cases.

Battle skill seems to be a mechanic for off-table battles.

I would agree. However, I have used it recently when PCs were trying to get NPCs into a Shield Wall formation. Also used it in the same battle for the other side attempting to break thru that said formation. Worked rather well.

But a scimitar is lighter [as much as a quarter-pound /0.12 kg], curves the opposite direction, and uses a very different technique to wield.

The interesting thing is the True Scimitar spell that YT gets. I would say it works on Kopis, Scimitars, curved short swords and daggers, maybe even sickles, but not on straight weapons.

And bound spirits in animals have been called familiars as far back as RQ2.

Which confused things to no end later on. These "familiars" were basically servants in animal form. I guess in RQG you may be able to use them as any other spirit can be used/partnered as well.

  14. 2 hours ago, metcalph said:

A fetch may or may not be part of oneself (I suspect I depends on the tradition), an allied spirit certainly isn't.  For familiars, the RQ rules are in RQG p250.  There are also Awakened Beasts described in Weapons and Equipment p44-46 although they do not have a mental link with their companion.

Do the Malkioni have familiars and the like?  Almost certainly.  Snow Hares are specifically mentioned in W&E p45 as the favourite for Awakened Beasts in Fronela and I doubt they meant the non-Malkioni part.  Priests, Rune Lords and Shamans of the non-sorcerous cults in Malkioni lands will have access to Allied Spirits and Fetches.

    That just leaves the sorcerers...

I believe that Malkioni familiars are a variation of Allied Spirits. Somewhat similar abilities with relation to Sorcery skills as opposed to having access to Rune magic. Teh Godless sorcerers, again in my opinion, use magic to create a homoculus or something similar to what was used in RQ3.

So, they would keep their Broadsword skill until the Scimitar, Kopis or whatever skill they had exceeded it and then would use that skill.

Yes, I said that his Kopis skill is equal to his Broadsword skill. I'm making him start Scimitar form scratch.
